Bios

Player observation

It would be helpful if players were to list in their bios exactly the mechs they are piloting...that would help, at least from a glance, each of us to understand the capabilities of the lancer members...

We should develop a system, where we can look at bios and go...ok, there's a jenner, it's movement is this... then skills...

Something.....

Honestly, I don't care about anyone's rank or title. I need to know...your call-sign, your mech and it's movement...if we're smart enough, I can imagine we develop a system to explain the weapons (or at least the damage) at different ranges.

If we were really smart...our names would include our callsign...that would free up more space in the bios.

Donovan,

Isn't that what the thread Mission 8 - Unit Stats is for:

That's what I use it for.

Re: Bios

That is pretty helpful, though I do wish that it included what actual model of mech they were piloting.

It makes it a little easier if I can just look at an entry and read "Jenner" rather than having to read through the whole thing and go "Ok, so he's fast, has four medium lasers, and not a whole lot of armor..."

Re: Bios

Except there are very few people that have 'stock' versions that have been around for longer than one contract.

Then there are, as Ana mentioned, those with Power Loaders that are the Mister and Missus Potatohead's of the Battletech Universe where you just don't know what they are running with and how fast they move.

True, I would still like to know the base model, if for no other reason than it helps me visualize what's going on. :P

Re: Bios

*laughs*

Luc is in a X-3a Power Loader, only non-Edenite to be running with one.  Currently I've got dual ML's in my torsos, an SRM6 in one hand and a sword in the other.

:P

Maybe if we are really nice to Kitten she'll alter the Unit thread just a little by adding the Mech designation above the picture that often has the pilot name/callsign below it.  Then you don't have to read the specs to know the model.

Re: Bios

1.5 tons

Javelin goes 6/9 with its engine and its 7 tons; Valkyrie goes 5/8 with its engine and it's 5.5 tons.

Re: Bios

changing engines is an expensive under taking... and not recommended.

Players know what theyre piloting...

Mech Commanders presumably know who's in their lance, (except for Ziro/Malcolm)

Players that have been playing a while know what people have won in auction.

Really if you want a list like that be my guest to collect it and post it... I've really done enough of that sort of bookkeeping.

I have your information in my head, but i'm not going to spend the time work yet another list up that i consider redundant.

Re: Bios

procedural question:  With partial initiative should I post any firing I want to do with my movement or can I wait until the player firing phase to take my shots?  just curious, it wont change my target, but I can get a decent shot on the Thorn this round and I don't want to miss my chance to take it because I didn't understand the turn order...

Re: Bios

In reply to Malcolm Strauss (msg # 228):

You should not... if you really want to ... fire at op force mechs that have moved, but the command lance has not gone, if you shoot now and something better comes along you wont be allowed to take shots later.

If you want to take shots at the thorn, which has moved, i will accept it, but you wont be allowed to take shots later after the command lance has moved, which may or may not present better targets.

You're also tipping me tactical information on how effective your weapon fire was... if the thorn is going to be fine... or in need of a command lance mech in the area to help shore up a damaged mech... so...really for your own good you should hold your fire.

Re: Bios

Changing an Engine is all but impossible unless you're in a lighter mech that moves quite slow and you have dumped a lot of points into Mental and have taken Tinker.

If you were to take that 30 ton mech and yank it's 7 ton engine to make it go 5/8 instead of 6/9 you need to bump your modification cap through the roof.  30 tons will let you mod 3 tons natively (aka 10%).  If you take a 4 in mental then you'll be able to pull the engine (a 7 ton modification) toss in the 5.5 ton engine and have 1.5 tons worth of stuff you can add.  That doesn't let you yank any other weapons systems to take advantage of the extra tonnage either...that would take even more Mental or multiple levels of Tinker to be capable of doing.

The difficulties just go on and on...

Not to mention how expensive an engine is ;)

Re: Bios

It's actually even worse on the Power Loaders, since the mod limit on those is only equal to your levels in tinker, due to their already high moddability.

Re: Bios

However... the rules DO cover the concept of downgrading/upgrading wher eyou only 'pay' for the difference with your modding capacity...

I'd say if anything falls under the purview of that, it'd be the engine ;)
