Re: Bios

Engines... are really expensive.

If you dont have the money in hand i'm not even going to guess the cost, break out the construction rules and figure it out, and dont forget to throw in the mech size multiplier on top of that.

Re: Bios

Sorry Ana, Engines are not covered under that.

Already had that conversation with Kitten when this game first started up and Adam converted his Urbanmech from going 2/3/2 to 3/5/0.

Re: Bios

oh i was  just asking for the purposse of speculation, no need to get into maths, was more itnerested in wether or not the free mass gain would be worth it.

I suspect i'll be able to afford  the a-3c and have it available before  i'll be able to afford switching out the engine on my current mech.

edit: yeah okay no point then.

Re: Bios

Engines are expensive toys and not really worth it unless you're seriously funded and equipped to deal with that hassle.

Also, Adam will be remembered!  The great Urbanmech experiment.  Wasn't his fault, really.  Ammo explosions are ugly things.

On the other hand Ana, the biggest difference between the X-3c and the A-3 is pretty much exactly the engine downgrade you are talking about, sooooo...

They are...and yeah Adam is missed.  He would shine in this combat.  Either in his Urbanmech of DOOOM!!!! of DOOOM I say! or in the original Clint with dual AC/2's.

Re: Bios

Talking of the power-loaders and hypothetical situations...

I've been wondering. If I had something like a massive 100-ton Assault 'Mech, two hand actuators, and stripped out all of the guns... how hard would it be to just dual-wield powerloaders? What would their effectiveness as melee weapons be?

Because I think I might have a new long term goal...

Re: Bios

Lol!

I don't see why not. You get the full trade in value right? So why not upgrade to the A-3, then upgrade again to the A-3c when it becomes available?

Re: Bios

They've have to be 5 ton power loaders since a 100 ton machine can only pick up 10 tons total Ziro.

;)

Probably less effective than large lasers in melee combat...

Re: Bios

In reply to Ziro Borovei (msg # 243):

Well, since, as I recall, a Hatchet is 1 ton for every 15 of the mech...

So a hatchet for a 100 tonner would normally weigh 7 tons, but the lightest power loader is the X-3s at 20 tons.

So probably not :P

Buuuuuut, if we just do some silly math, assuming it was possible... A hatchet does 1 damage for every 5 tons of the mech, so 20 damage for a 100t Mech.

The X-3s weighs about 2.85x as much as the hatchet, so if you scale the damage up by a comparable amount, then subtract a little for the fact that they aren't really meant to be melee weapons...

I would say an X-3s would do about 50 damage when swung as a weapon :D

I'll take an Urbanmech any day against ya Ana.  When the dust settles from your handgrenade and heavy foot only my Urbanmech will be walking away from your charred broken corpse. ;)

Re: Bios

defeating an urbie can be done in three easy steps:

1: step on foot
2: toss hand grenade into now open top
3: walk away

Don't forget, each of those X-3's would be wielding hatchets. I mean. It's the only thing that makes any kind of sense.

Re: Bios

In reply to Kitten (msg # 252):

That's a good point.

SO, since the X-3a is 30 tons instead of 20, that means that an Atlas (or whatever) swinging around an X-3a, per the previous calculations, should do somewhere between 85 and 90 damage or so depending on how you count the fact that the "hatchet" in this case is also wielding a hatchet.

NBA fan????

Honestly, you've lost me...hhhmmm...an Atlas throwing an X-3a? ahhhh...I must have missed something...perhaps we should focus a bit...because, I'm a dummy, but the stuff you're talking about...well...I'm gonna stand in the corner until the guys with answers show up.

Re: Bios

Though if it was an X-3s (or EW depending on how you like it) and the pilot had Tinker you could load a Hatchet on it and it would fit the 20 ton mark.  Hell if you gave the Atlas TSM it could pick it up on both hands and actually swing it around...

Hina hasnt been on since Sunday, someone want to plot a move for her?

If i dont have a move for Hina in a hour or two i will move on and presume she just...you know... stands there.

Which is bad considering she's now in gun range for op force.

Re: Bios

Based on her stated desire to always take the most cautious move possible, Jump her into 2429?

Gets her into cover, no pilot check, still gets into a decent position to do things next turn...
