Does it cost extra MP to move down levels? I don't have my books handy...

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

Roger you can make your current move as a run (7 movement points).

Dont forget youre on level one, and coming down to level zero is an extra movement point.

(Seriously... i'm going to start bad move plots and declared runs, as just bad piloting error on the part of the mechwarriors after turn one...)

Anastasia took my move. I would have had a +3/+4 DEF bonus and scouting check. ;)

From our ready Room earlier:
Joaquin Cortez:
I plan to head for the one straight in front us (2330) if no surprises happen in the opening round. I should make it at a safe move of 12 hexes facing NW or I can jump a safe 8 hexes and face any direction. Decisions decisions....... ;)

I'll look the map over scout out a few choices.

note here that I don't have access to your units ready room ;)

Still: we both run with TN 8+, so we should have equal chance at scanning it, and i fully intend to try.

Malcolm, unless there are factors which may change it we are permitted, i delayed mine for the scna, but i will actually update with pilot and scan now.

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

Also everyone should take note: you can only scan craters from the center of them, unless you have a probe to scan with.

kitten msg #2:
To scout a crater, a mech must be in the 'center' of the crater, and make a successful 'scout' check, during the initiative Phase.  Units with a Beagle Probe, may scout the crater at a range of 4, by having line of sight to the center of the crater.  There are (10) Craters to scout.  It is worth 1xp to scout an unscouted crater.

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

No biggie.... I just had to laugh at it. ;)

As Commander though, I wouldn't suggest you lead the charge. You take a hit and go down (Decompression Rules), there goes initiative bonuses and morale for the unit. Just saying.... Same goes for the X/O.

From my tabletop experience, we ALWAYS had a cover unit on the Commander and X/O. If needed, they took the hit to give them the chance to move into cover. It's not pretty but a bonus can make or break you.

Looking strategically at the map, you are in a position where possibly in the following round, 5 LRMs can bare down on you (Not to mention the heavier fire power if they decide to fire from long range and just press forward at max speed). Numbers may not be great, but the shots will be there. You also took command when issuing the order of retreat to the Pirate over the Comms. That by all accounts throws you out as the Lead Unit.... if I was the Op Force... I would have lit you up as the first target on all my Units immediately after the talk. Take out Command.... cause disruption in the ranks....create mass confusion.... leads to easy victory. 1 lucky shot is all it takes and the downward spiral effect happens.

Not sure what your main PoA is for the mission, but I highly suggest we mass fire on a target each turn. More opportunity to take down the units that way. We've also already split into 3 directions. The Op Force faster units are pushing the sides and the Command Lance is running up the middle. If they take the Middle of the field they will have a superior tactical advantage with their armor and heavier firepower. However.... we should let them take it. Draw the lighter mechs into our mist and wipe them out. We'll be forced to take the heavier firepower later if you want to take the field. We can run the edges and force the position of the Heavier Units while we scan the rest of the craters. It will not be pretty either way you look at it, but the majority of the objectives will have been completed.

That's just my view of what I see playing out from the current scenario. Like Chess you always plot your opponents moves 4-5 steps ahead.

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

I understand your concern, howeve, remember I'm at a -2 elevation, they couldn't target me even though they would very much like to (especially since i'm the one who spoke to their commander)

on top of that, other than the 23-24 lines there's a double +1 elevation in between as well, from the craters at the center  of the map :)

Strategially we're looking at this scenario:

we have:
a small group of long range fire support (2 blackjacks and whatever else)
a LOT of knife fighters (due to constraints of most of us being in light mechs)

they have a good chunk of moderately slow mediums and heavies
but they also have a skirmish lance and a scout lance, meaning we have to have people keeping those just a little bit honest, otherwise we're Fubar'ed.

currently our plan is simple: long range pelts the big bads (zeus, annihilator, Dragon), in the hopes of forcing 3 units off of the map with a single torso decompression.

meanwhile the alrger part of our force moves to engage blue lance, also focusing our fire on larger targets, again hoping for head, torso or leg decompressions.

but a small part of our force also needs to handle the speedies from opforce.

Power loaders generally aren't the fastest mechs out there, we *CAN* become extreemly fast, by essentially dropping 5 tonnes of combat load, but we aren't by default.

so overall, I think it's going well, as long as we don't have more than a small ahndfull of our mechs going onto the western flank, while the alrger part of our fforce circles east to start the engagement tehre.

that also means fire  support should veer east, awy from the skirmish/scout lances, and try to stay behind our knife fighters.

-

as to ana specifically: you are correct, I shouldn't and won't have her just charging in, but she isn't really doing so either.

i put her in that crater for cover, not for the scan, the scan just happened to be a fortunate by product of my initial opening :)

Hard not to.

Wont matter.  I will play the way i normally do.

She not stating anything i dont already know.

I book keep everything.  I should have the best overview of stuff.

And ana taking someones spot is just one thing to consider for initiative.

I suppose thats one reason why rook might have jumped on initiative even though she had a partial win

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

yeah my bad... but this Is the only place we can talk to people.

besides Kitten has at least one character in this mission, so how would we keep  plans from her anyway?, especially since she'ss playing one of the strongest most dangerous warriors in the game, we can't just keep that character out of the loop (for several reasons, 1: it's logistically impossible, 2: even if we could, keeping that character out of the loop would lead to some weird fuckups)

Kitten is usually REALLY good at detaching herself from knowledge the opfforce isn't supposed to have.

-

that in mind, someone should have told Joaquin the plan then we wouldn't have had this discussion in the first place.

Passive aggressive rant: off

Reggie scares me...

Shes nuts, and by far the 'strongest' pilot in the game.

that she's also played by one of the people who seem the most knoledgeable about the game around, doens't render her any less frightening.

still, my next goal will drop my effective

'strongest' is generalized.  Everyone is strong in there own way.  Lucius and Kurt are easily as competant as Regina.  Regina just isnt burdened by the duties of command.

I will grant, she is easily the most notable cause she's a religious zealot that's just fun to watch.

Re: OOC - Started May 2014

So wait does the -2 level craters actually block LOS? I've been flip flopping on that, as the whole "firing downhill" bit seems like it would be in play, and thus allow LOS (Unless treating craters like water which has special exceptions). That and partial cover would only come from being adjacent to the raised level 1 tiles, not 2+ tiles away from them.

So if someone can clear that up, I'd be very grateful :)
