The Courtyard And Beyond

Without the demon, the inside of the room is almost cheery.  Except for the three bodies which have been mutilated, their gore and insides thrown everywhere, the room still reeking from the odor of their innards.  But there is a rather cute little end table with the most adorable flower arrangement that somehow escaped getting smashed in the carnage.

There's also a ladder headed to the top of the tower.  But who cares about that?

No.  You head out a door to the north which leads to...

A causeway.  It appears this causeway links to another tower ahead. See map Group 2

But before you can groan, Chandanar points.  The causeway runs across the roof of the gatehouse building.  You could climb over the sides and on to the roof.  There are three chimney stacks in the southwest corner. Past them you should be able to look down on to the much longed for courtyard.

Of course, you could head over to the tower on the far side of the causeway.  Your call.

The Courtyard And Beyond

Selvin stared for a moment. After a pause he shrugged. "Welp. I'm gonna go see what's in the courtyard at this time. In this...time burp. Or real time. Or whenever we are." He made a face and shook his head.

Before he left, however, he took a moment to cast another 'healing' spell on the blue partially see-through eidolon surrounding him. More of the wounds and tears sealed over and the creature looked much better than it had.

He gave a nod and flew along the roof to where he could see the courtyard.

20:59, Today: Selvin Larst rolled 22 using 3d10+10.  Rejuvenate Eidolon.

The Courtyard And Beyond

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 2):

The view below is pretty much along the lines you've seen thus far in this timeline...lots and lots of dead bodies.  The difference here is the dragon that's eating them.

It's a long thin black dragon with silvery hues accenting it's darkness at various points.  A long 'beard' flows from it's under jaw.  And around it's neck is tied a long, silver chain.

The dragon picks up a few bodies and pops them into it's maw, like a man popping candied walnuts into his mouth, and chews as it looks around, apparently in deep contemplation.

Selvin's eyes went wide and he froze for a few seconds. Then he quickly and quietly made his flying way back to the group. He spoke quietly, "So. Um. Yeah. Gargoyles?" He shook his head. "Not so much." He spread his hands out. "BLACK DRAGON eatin' people? Definitely. So. If we go, we'd have t'be verrrrrryyyy careful."

No kidding about careful. "Do we think it's him? The one whos skull caused this whole mess in the first place?" He wondered briefly if they could get to see the time period where he was taken down by the legendary sword - then again, these times changed so often that probably not. Maybe their best bet was to trace their steps back - see if they could find a way past the ambush now that things had obviously changed - then again, they had no idea when the message had even been passed along to watch out for them. "Should we go invisible for this one?"

That's not him.  I mean the 'him' him that possessed your queen. That's Kazovon  Laoris looks deep in thought.  That halfling said something about Excelebraxas.  That was one of the Kazovon's advisors.  He probably survived the massacre.  Or has up to this point.

As if on cue, there's shouts from below.  A quick peek shows that several more of the silvery paladin types like the guy you just encountered have invaded the courtyard.  The dragon is rearing back, about to fight them.

Laoris claps her hands together.  Okay.  This may sound like a reeeeeeeeeaaaaallly bad idea.  But hear me out.  What if we help Excelebraxas out?  I mean. He might have some intel.  Right?

Selvin listened as Izzick spoke and his face brightened. But then his hopes were dashed. He got a weird look on his face the more the crazy lady talked, veering in to the face of someone who didn't think something was a good idea. "Yeah but....what if he just...y'know...instead o'talkin' t'us...just decided t'like...EAT US instead??" His lip curled up. "Fightin' dragons ain't high on my t'do list, just sayin'."

Izzick grimaced at the thought, then his eyebrows piqued in interest for a moment like he was considering it. "If I could protect us from his breath...well at least then we'd only have to deal with his claws, teeth, and tail." Was it a particularly good idea still? Probably not, but there were at least precautions they could take. "Maybe we should see how this goes," he said, watching on to the fight. Was this going to last long? Was this going to be one-sided? This certainly didn't seem to be the way the dragon died.

In reply to Izzick (msg # 8):

While the silvery fellows give what-for, it's pretty one sided.  Excelebraxas does have a few oozing wounds by the time he's popped the last one's head off and drunk the insides like honey mead.

He sits back on his haunches when he's done, eyes slowly closing.  Taking a deep breath, he looks up at the sky. In a voice that sounds like thunder going off under the ocean, he rumbles apparently to no one in particular, "Now what?  The plan is over.  Where do we go from here?"

Chandanar glances at Laoris, who just shrugs and shakes her head.

Excelebraxas closes his eyes and seems to become lost in thought.

Selvin looked at Izzick when the half-orc spoke up. He weighed the words, though his face spoke lightly of incredulity. He looked at the other two. Then he rolled his eyes and let out a heavy sigh. "Fiiiiiine."

He flew out towards the dragon and no sound came out the first time he tried to speak. He quietly cleared his throat. "Excuse me, mighty Excelebraxas?" He swallowed. "Might my allies and I have a word with you?"

For a moment the dragon doesn't stir.  Then he sighs and one eye pops open, fixing on Selvin.

"Can't you see I'm having a reverie?  Oh, to hell with it.  What is on your mind little elf?  Have you too come to die in my gullet?  No.  You do not look like you came with the f-fools..."

The dragon's body starts to spasm and he then begins to cough.  Thick globs of black dragon blood fly across the courtyard and land hither and yon, sizzling as they come in to contact with anything and everything.

"Pardon me.  I'm dying.  Well?  What would you have of me in my final moments?"

Back on the rooftop, Laoris' eyes go wide.  "No!  We can't let him die!"  She grabs Chandanar's arm.  "Please! Save him!"

Chandanar looks at her and then over the top of her head at Izzick  "Is she high?  She's high, isn't she?"

Selvin gave a little growl at the name Sial. He gave a shrug and then gave a conceding nod. "Yeah. I guess so. Sounds about right. What my an' my allies're seein' already happened a long time ago."

He frowned at the wording of the dragon's refusal of healing. Very strange. But there wasn't much Selvin could do about it. He blinked at the dragon's casual 'sparing of his life', wondering if the dragon could kill him so easily while apparently mortally wounded - but he was in no hurry to find out.

He drew in a deep breath. "I mean...it's a long story but...the spirit of Kozovon is possessing our queen? We came to find information, possibly a sword, anything to help us with setting her right or stopping her at least, definitely stopping her from finding all the pieces to his body and...bringing him back or something. I'm not sure, but that's....kind of the gist I think."

Excelebraxas has another laughing/coughing attack.  A spray of black fluid hits the courtyard, making hissing, sputtering pools that sizzle and eat into the stone work.

"Pardon..." he adds weakly.  He lowers his head.  "If you had come to me with this two days ago, I would have roasted you like a cattle herd and served you as an appetizer to some demons I know.

"But...as I die...I feel..."
He is quiet for a long moment and then shrugs.  "Whatever word I am looking for escapes me.  It seems a lot is escaping me.  I am dying after all.

"I won't tell you how to stop my Lord.  He is the chosen one after all.  Though Zon Kuthon chose poorly.  But I will tell you this...

"Kazovon would be in his throne room.  If he still exists.  The champion who has come to challenge him...and may have already done so by now...would be there.  If he still lives.  I saw the sword he held.  It was a spark none of us could deny. As you can see by my state."

His body shudders.  That one eye opens again, though not as wide as it did.  "I have given you enough little shade.  Best you and those others hiding up there be off.   Before I decide to have 'one for the road'..."

The eye shuts again.

Selvin gave a slow nod. "Thank you. Most generous of you. I hope you...find peace, or the afterlife you are expectin'." There was almost a question mark at the end of that. Selvin wasn't sure what happened to dragons after they died, let alone ones who worshiped Zon Kuthon (and he was pretty sure he didn't want to know).

With that, though, he flew towards the throne room, giving the dragon a wide berth, glancing back at his allies to see if they were coming.

Laoris coughs.  Do you want the good news or the bad news first?  She blinks like she expects someone to actually make the choice before going on.

Good news:  I know where the throne room is.  It's actually below ground.  In the base of that tower...

She points to an odd, star shaped tower at the other side of the courtyard.

So...here's the thing.  The bad news is there's some kinda gate that has a particular kind of access.  And no.  I'm afraid I don't know what it is.

I don't think Sial knows either.  But...we're gonna have to figure that out.

Izzick nodded, "I can enchant another to fly, if Chandanar's too heavy, then it would be me and him. You'd just have to carry Zuni and Laoris." The woman they had brought with them was small enough that it shouldn't be too hard, Izzick himself could probably carry her if needed. "Does that sound like a plan?" he asked, already feeling the magic go to his hands. As soon as he touched someone, they would be as weightless as needed and then they would just need to actually past the dragon. Preferably far over the dragon's head and out of reach of anywhere he could strike or breath or anything else. "If we need, I can do another but I'm going to guess we need as much sorcerous power on our side as possible once we're through those doors."

There's a sudden burst of sunlight all around you.  Well.  Not sudden.  You seem to have skipped back to where you came from.

You're standing on the steps in front of the courtyard.  The corpses of Excelbraxas and all the dead are gone.  Instead, there are twenty gargoyles, perched with their backs towards you, watching a door that you could've come through had you not taken the long detour you did.

It seems you'll get to ambush the ambushers after all...

The air above shimmers and then the Lanterns appear, doin' their thang.

Your group dives/swoops for the door.

The gargoyles launch upwards towards the lanterns, seemingly oblivious to you.

You hear Chandanar mutter.  He's cast some kind of spell.  He holds a finger up to his lips and points at the landing.

You land soundlessly.  Laoris opens her mouth to say something, can't, and shrugs.  She reaches forward and pulls open the door.

There's a bright flash of light and the smell of ozone.  Laoris slumps to the ground, having been shocked.  There was some kind of trap on the door.  Not now though.

The gargoyles are still too busy with the lanterns.  They don't notice.

Heading in?  And anyone picking up Laoris?

And in case you haven't figured it out, Chandy cast Silence 15' right before the door to try to give you a stealthier landing.

The gargoyles may or may not have noticed you.  Something else draws your attention when you come inside.

Inside the doors is a large chamber with high ceilings.  The floors and walls, save the southwest corner, are made of tightly fitted dark gray stone, polished to almost a gleam.  Above hangs a rather grandiose chandelier.  The only dust and cobwebs in the room cover the chandler.  The floor and walls look almost new.

This was obviously once a chapel.  Or maybe a better term would be cathedral.  There is an altar occupying the southwest nook.  Even though it's bare, it still screams ostentatious.  Made of a whiter than white stone of some kind, it's been stained in areas, mostly around the corners.  You've seen enough blood to realize that is the basis of the stains.  Hundreds of people must have been bled on the altar over years to get those stains in place.

Past the altar is a rather odd looking wall.  It juts out at an odd angle, making a sort of crenalated triangle that pushes up close to the alter.

Standing with their backs to you is your good buddy Sial and his chain demon girlfriend.  They don't seem to be aware of you.  Chandanar's zone of silence kept your arrival quiet.  And they haven't turned around to notice you.  Yet.  They seem to be staring at the altar, discussing something.  What you don't know.  Cos...you know...Silence.

You've been reunited with Sial.  Try not to hug too hard.

Remember, you are silenced.  You will need to move 10' forward from the door to cast spells with audio compenents.

The gargoyles haven't noticed you.  You can shut the door if you like.

He thought about casting Glitterdust on them, Greater Invisibility on himself, or some other spell - but feeling the power of the Haste spell wash over him and Zac, he restrained a snarl as he smiled. He instead flew, with a boost of speed in fact from the spell, straight at Sial's back, unleashing a flurry of strikes on the bastard. After he struck he said, "Good to know!"

OOC: This is assuming that Sial is within range (140 feet for a charge, assuming there is a straight line, 70 feet if not). If not, then I'll edit.

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 40):

Nah.  You're good Selvy.

One moment Sial is standing there and the next he's slammed against the steps leading up to the altar, underneath a pile of Selvin/Zac.  A rather angry pile of Sevlin/Zac

The Chain Demon makes a hissing sound.  Several of her appendages rush outwards, crisscrossing the Symbiote's ethereal back.  Total 21 HP Dam Selvin

Chandanar starts to rush for the scramble, maybe intent on getting some healing in on Selvin's erstwhile ally.

Meanwhile Zuni and Laoris manage some shots at Chainy.  Between arrows and magic missles, the demon takes a step backwards.  She glances at those of you in the back row...

Selvin, Sial must be magicked up.  You've done some solid hits.  But he's not looking as bad as he should.

Izzick's cursed blood burned in his veins as he looked good and hard at the cultist with the freaky demoness 'friend'. The man's mind was his weapon, if they could take that out, there was one less threat in this fight. He began to incant a spell for warping minds - Certainly he'd drawn on these powers before, but this time it was much more focused, much more concentrated. Only fitting revenge for the ambush outside.

Casting Feeblemind on Sial. Will DC20. If his spells are arcane, he has a -4 penalty to the save.
If he fails:

Selvin was starting to think something was very wrong. Sial was muttering what sounded like gibberish. And he had always seemed eloquent before. So either something wrong had happened to Sial....or this wasn't Sial.

He called back to his ally, "Izzick! He wasn't this dumb! Is this a trick?" To Chandanar, he chuckled, "Worry less about me an' more about them, yah?"

He saw the horse-things appear but concentrated on Sial or whatever for the moment, especially since he felt the magical protection giving way under his assault.

"Figured if he has a demon he must know some magic. Thought we'd be better off if he didn't." While curses ran in the sorcerers blood, there were plenty of other tricks up his sleeve as well. Ok, demon horses. Fire-breathing demon horses. "They really don't ever go well, do they?"

Cracking electricity began sparking between his fingers, bolts forming into orbs - three in all that began to float out from him towards where the small demonic posse was formed. One for each of the summoned beasts and another for the chain devil herself. With a shocking jolt they shot forward, jolting each of them in turn as they made contact.

Casting Ball Lightning. 3 orbs. One will go for each Nightmare (I assume) and one for the Chain Devil

If a globe enters a space with a creature, it stops moving for the round and deals 3d6 points of electricity damage to that creature, though a successful Reflex save negates the damage. Creatures wearing metal armor take a -4 penalty on this Saving Throw.

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

The chain lashed a nasty scar across his chest but Izzick was quick to turn his attention on her. As long as Selvin had her summoner going down, well then he was happy to duke it out. His fists closed and all at once, the 3 orbs of electricity slammed towards the chain devil, crackling towards her chains. "Selvin, you think you can handle a few horses?"

Then he began chant arcane words, working on another spell for her. Fire burned up in his soul this time, coming forward, burning hotter from his orc blood. Orbs of fire began to appear around his hands, blazing hotter and hotter until they hit a point of firing out as scorching rays of flame. The three rays shot simultaneously towards her like searing tongues of fire. It felt good to finally take out the two traitorous tag-a-longs, whatever their plans had been.

All 3 orbs will go for the Chain Devil as my move action to control them.

Selvin of course always has been.

The horse manages an odd choking sound as the orbs and fire snake slam into it.  In a moment, there is a barrage of magic missles from Laoris hitting it as well.

It flies sideways, cartwheeling, and turns to ash before it hits the far wall.

Chainy leaps forward, meeting Selvin head on.  The two become a mass of ectoplasm and chains...

Selvin 43 pts damage.  She got a couple of tremendous rolls.

But Zac isn't having any of that.  He carves through her like so much wet paper.

Izzick inhaled deeply, then exhaled. It took a minute but then he was back, though he could still feel the beginning of brain fog setting in as that spark inside him slowly began to die out. He hoped that was it for now because he certainly only had enough for one or two more big spells even if the weaker ones were becoming somewhat trivial now.

"Laoris, I know you and him weren't -quite- friends but I truly hope you're going to stay on our good side." Maybe it was a bit of a leap but she had been brought into their circle by him - and it didn't speak much about if she had any reason to keep helping them. "What the hell did he even have to gain? We said we'd be helping him for his cooperation and I don't think I remember Chainy running off to make a deal with someone else."

"If you mean the hedonism cult that wants a place to do whatever sick acts in the city they please, then we've already heard that much." He assumed that it wasn't the only thing she had to say...or at least he hoped not because it hadn't led to much trust with Sial. "Thanks." She waves her hands like she's trying to air dry them.  "So our association-"

"Cult," offers Chandanar

"You say Me-duce-a, I say Ma-doz-ah.  Anyway, our 'group' follows Zonny-baby.  Not you. Zon-Kuthon," she adds to ZUni

"What's happened is that the spirit of Zonny's former champion, Kazovon, has possessed your queen.  And the spirit is trying to recreate the world it knew.  When it was the warlord of this keep.

"Thing is...we're not exactly big fans of that plan.  Our association-"

"Cult."

"- doesn't feel like the current socio-political circumstances are conducive for a reemergence of Kazovon."

"In other words, you're worried if Kazovon did stir up trouble, the rest of Glorathin would gang up, beat him down, and then it'd be open season on your 'association'."

"Bingo.  The thing is, we've had disagreements on how best to handle it.  Sial was part of the group that wanted to support the Queen before turning on her and handing her over to the good guys, thereby gaining street cred and reaping some rewards.  I belong to a group that thinks we can't let it get that far.  The longer Kazovon is allowed to roam this world, the more power he'll accumulate.  We're not big risk takers, my lot.

"So anyway.  We're willing to assist in overthrowing the Queen.  We've already been in touch with a group back in the City that's resisting.  Lead by some bard named Tarrick?  Taillick?

"All that aside, I'm willing to do whatever I need to in order to show you that I have no intentions of backstabbing you.  At least until this is over.  I'm willing to accept a Geas provided it only binds me to aiding your cause and not betraying you until a year after this whole situation is over.  Then...ya know.  I'm a bad guy.  You're good guys.  We probably won't be inviting each other over for barbeque.

Izzick didn't trust her - how close was this promise to the one they just had from Sial? But they also weren't really in a good position to refuse. "What do you think?" he said turning to the others. Another hand to fight the queen even if they'd have to deal with a cult in the aftermath.

What he'd done to Sial, he could certainly do to her which he had to assume even someone as wacky as Laoris would not want. If she was willing to accept a curse upon herself, it was certainly something he could do. "If we want to go with the geas option, I think I can handle that. Gives us at least a little protection to ensure she keeps her promises."

Laoris grins and looks at Chandanar.  He sighs and rubs the back of his head.
Yeah.  I should be able to handle that.  But I'll need to rest up.  We safe to bunker here for a few hours?

As camp is set up, Laoris studies the altar.

'kay.  Like I was saying before.  From the legends, the sword is probably with Kazovon's remains.  And those are probably locked in the other parts of this Tower.  The question is how to access them...

The altar is five sided.  At four of the points are symbols.  The fifth is blank other then the remains of dried blood stains.

Sacrafices were made here, Laoris points at the blank point.

The symbols are

An axe dripping blood.

A dragon's wing.

A woman turned away from the viewer, clutching a dagger in one hand.

A circle surrounding three intertwined triangles, all of whom are pointed downwards.

Laoris points at the circle.  That's a symbol for Zon-Kuthon.  I don't know about the others.

The most any of you can deduce is that these are symbols specific to particular objects or entities.  But nothing more than that.

Selvin looked over the altar for a long moment. Then he closed his eyes for a moment, frowning a bit. He spoke up after that, slowly. "Sial said...that he thought it involved multiple keys.  Or whatever...someone....was using as keys. Someting about...a chronicle or chronicles? Wishing they were had given more details." He opened his eyes and looked dead at Laoris. "Said this would be a time you would be useful."

He raised an eyebrow. "So other than the one symbol y'pointed out, any other good information t'share? Any insights?"

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 66):

Kazovon had three lieutenants.  A dragon.  Kazovon's wife.  His bodyguard.  Three and three.  Corresponds to Zon-Kuthon's symbol too.  Three triangles within a circle.  If I had to guess, we need something from each of them.

Laoris shakes her head.  What we need?  Maybe a wing, an axe, and...I guess a dagger?  I'm not sure why we see all of her and not the other two.  I'm not aware of any other symbolism than the obvious.

Sorry.  If Sial thought I knew something, I'm drawing a blank on what it could be.

Selvin frowned as he listened, the lines of his face in danger of becoming permanent with how often he'd been frowning lately. He spoke slowly, as if trying to think things out by speaking them. "So...to...get past..." He waved a hand towards the altar, "this thing, we need t'go collect...pieces or formerly-owned things...from the lieutenants an' bring 'em back here?"

He glanced over his shoulder and sighed. "S'that mean we gotta go back past the gargoyles? I don't wanna do it if that's what it means."

Laoris shrugs and shakes her head.  "Sorry.  I don't know what else to tell you."

Chandanar walks over.  "We could just wait for one of those time skips.  They seem to have no rhyme or reason to them.  Maybe we can get out while the gargoyles aren't there."

He turns to Laoris.  "You ready?"

She nods, giggling.

Chandanar looks at the rest of you.  "I'll bind her with an oath.  But the oath has to be specific.  You guys want to leave the wording up to me?"

Selvin looked first at Chandanar, then over at Izzick and then Zuni. He looked at a loss. He shook his head and looked back at the cleric. "Uhhh..." He shrugged. "I don't really know about that sorta thing so...I guess...you decide?"

He glanced at Izzick again. "Unless you have some input?"

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

Izzick could have made a few suggestions, "As long as we include harming us, knowingly working against us, trying to take advantage of us when we're down. All the stuff we don't  want," he said, but the actual wording might have been better done by the cleric placing the oath after all. "Chandanar, you've probably got the best idea of what we do and don't need." Laoris was a damn good ally, but only as much as they could trust her. The more ways to stop that, the better. He half wanted to request they stop her from being so creepy, but thought that the cultist might drop on the spot.

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

In reply to Izzick (msg # 71):

Chandanar nods and begins the ritual.

After some prayers he raises his hands.  In a voice suprisingly deep he intones, I place upon you this chain:  that you will act as our beneficiary, ally, and supporter until our quest to rid Korvosa of it's ills is completed.  That you will protect us as we protect you.  And that you will advise of any and all dangers or tribulations you become aware of that would effect our mission.

Laoris giggles but says nothing.  Nor does she fight the magic.  It settles on her and for a moment she shines.

And then the moment is passed.

Chandanar lets out a long sigh.  "I need a drink."

Laoris giggles.  "Nice touch with the 'protect us as we protect you' bit.  It is appreciated."

Chandanar shrugs.  "It's only fair."

"Alrightie then.  Let's get down to business.  Now.  Let's talk gargoyles.  I have an idea."  She reaches into a sleeve of her robe and pulls out a wand of dark black ash.  She hands it to Izzick

"It activates on the word Bingam" she says after the wand is out of her hands.  She shrugs.  "No idea where that word comes from.  I got it off the corpse of a gal I was killin'.  Anyhoo.  It has a couple of rather large fire balls left on it.  It's one of my last dice roll inventory.

"What if one of us busts out the door and runs into the courtyard?  That would attract the gargoyles into more or less one area.  The runner then bamfs back here and we shoot the wand out the door into what is hopefully a dogpile of 'goyles.  Even if that doesn't work, at least we can keep them coming at us through the door instead of hitting us from all sides.

"Can you of you gents handle the bamfing part?"

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

Izzick took the wand and looked it up and down. Blackened wood was a trade mark of a fire spell so he appreciated it. He mouthed the word 'Bingam', not truly saying it so it didn't go off.  He held it in his hands, spinning it between two fingers until he found a steady grip. That he could accomplish.

If they needed a distraction, he suggested, "Selvin, any chance you could summon something for us?" More often than not, the Summoner's eidolon was more than enough. But if they had to put someone in danger, something that would simply appear back on its own plane of existence was better than normal flesh and blood. He was so out of practice himself with conjuration he wasn't even certain he could pull it off...and truth was he couldn't, having long forgotten that spell.

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

Selvin listened and watched Chandanar as he cast the spell on Laoris, who was still giggling. He shook his head slightly, but the wording was pretty sound as far as he could tell. He glanced at Izzick thoughtfully and then gave a shrug and a nod.

"I can summon a lot, actually....assuming we are okay with my not having my trusty friend Zac around." He tilted his head and the symbiote did the same. "Instead o'usin' up my spell power, I can jus' draw on my connection t'the Planes t'summon some 'aid'."

His eyes narrowed a moment. "Fireballs right?" He thought and then nodded. "I could summon one to a couple bearded devils out there. Or fire elementals. They're both tough an' immune t'fire so you can fireball 'em, or do that fire snake thing you do, all day long."

He spread his hands. "Only downside is it takes a minute t'summon Zac back afterwards." He shrugged again. "I could cast a spell t'summon instead an' keep Zac around, but it summons only one creature, or several less powerful creatures."

"Well...barring objections..." Selvin looked over at Izzick to see if the half-orc had any.

Then he unsummoned Zac giving the nearly-see-through symbiote a pat, <small>"don't worry, it's not goodbye, i'll summon y'back later..."

"Let's get in position then. Both Izzick'n I'll need t'see where we're castin' at."

Chandanar and Zuni take up positions, one on each door.

Laoris readies herself as back up in case needed.

Selvin, they'll open the door on your mark.  Let me know what you summon.

Izzy, the wand is level 11 for fireballs.  There are four charges left on it.

Let me know how many charges you use and roll the damage.

I will assume Izzy uses the wand at what he believes to be the best possible moment.

That all sound good?

After dismissing his symbiote, Selvin got in to position by the door. He would need to be able to see where he was summoning to. He cleared his mind and slowly reached out with his connection to the outer planes.

He shuddered slightly as he felt the evil he was connecting with, the fire and heat and evil of the hells. But he pushed through it, reached out with his power and dragged not one, not two, but three of the devils in to this plane, in the middle of the courtyard or as close as he could get them.

"wait for it...." He grinned. "let 'em get in close..."

OOC: Poop. Sorry. RL distracted me.

Summoning 1d3 Bearded Devils using a downgraded equivalent of Summon Monster 6. It is a Standard Action to cast this, up to 50 feet away.

20:25, Today: Selvin Larst rolled 3 using 1d3.  Number of summoned Bearded Devils.

Chandanar and Zuni crack open the doors.  After a few ominous intonations, Selvin waves a hand and

Pop

Three rather irritated looking devils wink into this side of existence.

As if to relieve their frustration for having been interrupted in the middle of dinner, they launch themselves into the middle of the courtyard, descending on a plump looking gargoyle who was minding it's own business.

Like a cat leaping into the middle of a bunch of militarized pigeons, the crowd of gargoyles leaps into action.  There is at first confusion.  But they begin to congregate and descend towards the devils...

Chandanar glances at IzzickZuni counts backwards from three...two...

Izzy.  Shoot them fireballs.  Remember they are each at caster level 11.  Roll damage on each please

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

With a snap of his wrist, Izzick took aim, as the stony gargoyles gathered chasing towards the targets he called out "Bingam!". The wand lit up, the flames roiled around the tip before discharging in a burst of flaming magic. He was certain his own magic was more powerful, but in terms of not using up what he had left in his reserves, nothing could be better than a wand with a handful of charges left. And they could always finish the rest of them off with more flames.

17:54, Today: Izzick rolled 39 using 10d6.  Fireball with the CORRECT DIE SIZE. DC14 for half

And then there's a loud, castle shaking KAAAAA-BOOOOOOOOM!

Well...maybe not that big a KAAAAA-BOOOOOOOOM.  But still a decent sized one.

As the smoke clears, outside in the courtyard, you can see a large pile of gargoyles.  Some flash fried to seal in the juices!

Some more or less singed toasty.

And quite a few that are blinking, like they have no idea what the hell just happened.

The devils are prancing around.  They seem to be enjoying it.

Probably want to lob off one more there Izzy

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

This time Izzick spoke the words, incanting not the activation keyword but the spell itself, conjuring fire from deep inside him. They were nonsense words to anyone who did not practice spellcraft. For those who did they were a potent warning of the spell to follow "Plo nac Ogniem Piekelnym." As fire swirled around his finger, it condensed into a pea sized dot that flew forward before detonating just as hard as the wand's fireball. Immediately flames consumed around the gargoyles, only furthering the torment the wand started.

Going to cast my fireball. Reflex DC20 for half

Did it make you feel good?  Beating up those gargoyles with your higher save?  Mr. Man

There are about five left.  Two of them are charging for the doors.

The other three are fleeing.

Re: The Courtyard And Beyond

Selvin grinned as the first fireball exploded and did some damage. Then the second one exploded and decimated most of the gargoyles. He let out a chuckle, watching the bearded devils dancing around.

But then two gargoyles headed their way. His eyes widened and he yelled, "HEY, QUIT DANCIN' AN' COME PROTECT ME!"

He then cast Glitterdust on the approaching gargoyles and drew his morning star as he stepped back from the doors. He was a lot less armored and effective in combat without his symbiote friend. A sliver of worry trickled down his spine - but there were only two gargoyles, right?

OOC: Cast Glitterdust on the approaching gargoyles, Will Save DC 17 or be blinded and visibly outlined for 11 rounds, but can attempt to save to end the blindness at the end of each of their turns.

Draw morningstar and step back from the door.

Ready to defend Selvin as his protective shell came off, Izzick began to call on a new power, a  curse deep within him that desired to be free. His mind had new exotic words of unmaking and as the sickly palid ray shot from his hand and struck a gargoyle, the effect was obvious in just what it would do. Rock skin immediately turning to dust.

Disintegrate on one of the gargoyles coming forward.
