Re: The Jail

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 22):

They look at each other.  The woman frowns at the man, who frowns back and then shrugs.

"Tell Benda that we'll wait for her at Squido's.  She'll know what it means.

"When did you want this 'distraction' to happen?"

Re: The Jail

Selvin repeated, "Squido's. Got it." He restrained the urge of his shoulders to shrug.

He glanced at Lucky, "Well, we still need t'work out a few details 'fore we kick things off. I'll send a message t'you when we're ready." He paused, realizing they weren't used to his normal modus operandi. "Uh. A magical whispered message, just t'be clear."

OOC: Does Squido's ring any bells?

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 24):

You rack your brain Selvin...Squiddo's...

Nothing comes to mind.  It must be code for either a bar or more likely a codename for a checkpoint or safehouse of some kind.  You'd guess it's somewhere near the waterfront.  But that's the most you can come up with.

Let me know what you guys want to do about the prison.  Casing it again?  Going to try to do the jailbreak now?

You are in the driver's seat here.

Nodding, Lucky looks to the others and asks, "What kind of distraction will you all have?"

To Selvin, Lucky says, "Want to check out the back a bit more before we make our move?"

Re: The Jail

Selvin snapped back to reality from his thoughts and gave Lucky a nod "Yeah. I wanna find the best point of entry so we can make this work right."

He started walking in a bit of a roundabout to get around to a view of the back and the side maybe as well a bit, "Let's see what can see. I wanna have a good chance o'pulling it off when we do it."

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 27):

The two seem to consider.  Then the woman says, "We'll simulate an attack.  The guard shift should change around sunset.  We'll fire off a couple of crossbows at the departing guard.  That should get them to send out a patrol in the direction we shoot from.  We'll hightail it out afterwards.  Then meet you later."

Let me get 3 perception checks a piece from both you gentlemen.  I will give you more details on the various entrances based on your rolls.

Thanks

Selvin considered summoning his friend to have with him and give him more maneuverability - but he was also very noticeable without some good stealth or magical help. So he snuck along with Lucky to eyeball the other areas and exits for the moment.

Re: The Jail

At a glance, it's obvious going through the front is the worst possible choice.  There's always a lot of activity.  Lots of eyes and hands and feet about.  Even with a distraction, it would be the main focus as it seems the main entrance and egress.

The side door onto the street isn't as well guarded.  But it's visible from the street.  And easily visible from the front if anyone just peeks around the corner.  Entry is possible there, if you're quick, quiet, quiet, quiet, and more quiet.  Also quick.

The back is a bit more promising.  Again, not as heavily guarded.  And while still visible from the street, it's not as accessible from the side guards and certainly not from those at the front entrance.  You both notice there is a bird's nest built above the door.  It's odd but not necessarily alarming.  There's just something about it that draws both of your attention.

The last possibility that you can see is the roof.  There are two crossbowmen walking the roof, mostly watching the street.  They check in by leaning over and yelling down to the guard station at the front, but only at what appears half hour intervals.  Otherwise, no one seems to pay them attention.  They aren't visible from the street the entire time.  But you would have to hit them, again, quick and quiet.

You can't rule out that there is a sewer line entrance.  But nothing you can observe from up here is able to give you much to go on.

Re: The Jail

Selvin looked around as they scoped the place out, it's various entrances, exits and defenses. He eyed the two crossbow guards on the rooftop. He could get close and lay one out pretty quick - but he couldn't guarantee both before an alarm was raised.

He could get both of them over there, possibly unseen as well, and that might do it - but it was still tricky. Not that he expected that the alarm wouldn't raised at some point regardless. They could try to avoid it, but he bet on it being inevitable since it was better to try and plan around both success and failure for him.

The rooftop walkers would be a problem regardless unless...He looked at Lucky. "So there's the roof, but takin' both out quick an' quiet could be tricky before they raised an alarm." He nodded towards the other 'good' entry point. "Back door would be second best but honestly still have t'worry about those on the roof hearin' or spottin' things."

He frowned. "We could check for sewer access but...bein' caught in an enclosed space that may or may not go where we want it or lead in to traps..." He didn't bother finishing the sentence.

He shrugged. "My votes roof. If I get us over there unseen, can you take one o'the guards out quicker'n they can shout out? I'll try t'give us surprise, o'course."

Re: The Jail

Lucky had been scouting out the areas a bit better and with a keen eye and had come to pretty much the same conclusion as Selvin.  The rooftop was the best way to go.  When asked if he could take one out quickly, Lucky nodded his head, "Yes, if you can get us up there and quietly, I can take out one of them.  You take out the other and then we have the roof to ourselves until they change the shift."

Lucky took out his blades to show he was ready to go and gave Selvin a nod once more.

Selvin suddenly hesitated. He turned back to look at Lucky once more with a narrowed eye. "Should we wait for after a shift change so no one'll come lookin' for them two for a while? Would that be the smarter play?"

Do you still need the distraction from the two actors?

Just did not want to assume.  Thanks.

Moving on.

The two of you get into position.  The sun starts to drift down to the horizon.

A hatch on the roof opens up and two fresh guards come out.  They talk crap to the two their relieving for a few minutes, and then the old shift heads down the hatch.

You see the fresh guards wander over to the edge near the front.  One of them waves down until he gets the attention of the spellcaster.  She nods back at him and then the two roofies wander back, scratching their butts and talking about whatever they are talking about.

Re: The Jail

"Once we get to the roof, we'll count down from 30 an' then strike, yeah? I'll set us in the middle, you take the left one, from where we're lookin' now."

Selvin summoned his symbiotic friend before the shift change and then stayed low and out of sight. Once the shift change happened, when the two guards were distracted, he cast Invisibility first on himself, then on Lucky.

He then took to the air and flew Lucky and himself up and over to the other roof - and unlike before, there were no wings flapping to keep them aloft, just magic flight instead.

He set Lucky down, tapped him to indicate the guard he should take, and then got ready for the attack on his own guard, counting silently in his head, moving as little as possible before the time to strike.

OOC: Invisibility lasts 13 mins on each of us.

Re: The Jail

Lucky understood what he was to do and the guards to take out, so when he set down lightly on the roof and was tapped by Selvin be moved towards the guard while counting down.  The timing had to be right.

10, 20, 30, and Lucky struck with his knife right through the throat of the guard so that even if he were to get off a scream of any sort, it would be garbled and not loud at all.

22:47, Today: Lucky Six-Fingers rolled 31 using 1d20+17.  sneak attack.

Re: The Jail

Selvin waited, counting down, until the last possible second. Then he moved in an invisible blur that suddenly unveiled his body hiding inside the otherworldly form of his symbiote. In horrific silence they unleashed a flurry of attacks on the guard from behind, and then dragged the body back a bit so it wouldn't be easily spotted.

He glanced over at Lucky as well, but figured it wouldn't be a problem. And he was right.

22:26, Today: Selvin Larst rolled 21,27,16,17,21 using d20+14,d20+14,d20+14,d20+14,d20+14.  Attack of the suddenly-visible Selvin!

Re: The Jail

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 42):

Yeah.  That's what I was expecting.

The two of you make quick work of the roof men.

The hatch opens onto a short ladder going down.  It looks like the warehouse has a large, open area occupying most of the space.  There is a second floor balcony running along the eastern wall.  It must have been offices when this was a warehouse. Now it appears to be guard rooms.
There are three rooms along the platform.  Two have their doors open.  One is shut.

To the west, in the large open area, the warehouse shelves have been removed and replaced with cages.  The cages are all fairly packed.  Seems the Queen has been busy arresting people.

As the two of you get the lay of the land, you can hear a commotion.  It sounds like the diversion is going off.  There's a lot of shouts in the direction of the front door The far west.  A bell starts to sound.  Guards pour out of the two rooms with open doors on the platforms.  The guards are hustling towards the front of the building.

There seems to be some kind of protocol about such matters though.  Five guards, all fairly tough looking women in plate mail, are taking up positions along the balcony, though they seem more concerned with watching the cages on the main floor.

Two other guards are walking towards the ladder to the roof.

I am assuming you guys were peeking down.  I am not assuming you have entered the building proper yet.

There are a total of seven guards on the balcony.  Two are coming towards the ladder leading up to the roof.

You have no idea how many guards are down on the main floor still.

Re: The Jail

Selvin poked his head down, quietly, hanging upside down in the air, technically 'flying' though not moving once his head was low enough to see. He took in as much as he could and then slid back up and righted himself, hovering above the roof by half an inch. He relayed what he saw to Lucky quietly.

Then he said, "Two are comin', I think they're gonna come up. I think we're gonna have t'take 'em out quietly again before we can go in. Thoughts?"

"We need to hide", Lucky said in a hushed tone.  "Can you turn us invisible again or we can fly up?  It is dark enough now they shouldn't be able to see us."  Lucky hadn't planned the diversion working so well.

OOC: Well, poop. There goes my plan then to fly straight up WAY up and then use Feather Fall to slowly come back down to the roof (including the corpses so I don't have to keep a hold of them).

Where is the trapdoor that goes down in to the building located - middle of the roof, near one corner or side or what?
