The Jail

Lucky and Selvin.

The "jail" is actually an old warehouse that the Queen's forces have converted.  She's arrested so many these days, jail space has become a premium.  You set up as close as you can and observe...

Let's get Perception checks from both of you gentlemen.

Also, please let me know if you're doing anything interesting as you look the place over.

Thanks

Re: The Jail

Selvin looked around slowly, walking nearby but not too close to their destination, just casually eyeing the area and the building. He then looked for a nearby rooftop that might give them a better vantage point, a perch to stay at for a bit where they wouldn't be easily seen. It was annoying to have to walk, and then climb, everywhere, but his symbiote was FAR too easily noticed.

Once settled and hopefully hidden, he looked at Lucky. "So. For scoutin'. I can summon some invisible or inconspicuous creatures t'see about goin' in, checkin' things out...but if they get noticed, it raises the alarm, just like it would if we went in an' got caught."

OOC: Wow. What an amazing roll.
Will cast See Invisibility and Detect Magic.

16:07, Today: Selvin Larst rolled 17 using 1d20+15.  Perception.

Re: The Jail

Lucky looked at all the places around them trying to find one that they could use to scout out the place and still be inconspicuous.  14:30, Today: Lucky Six-Fingers rolled 23 using 1d20+16.  perception.

Once they both found something and Selvin spoke to him about things he could do, Lucky liked the concept of using something else to do the scouting.  "Are you able to see through their eyes or will they just come back and report what they saw?  I think if you can do different things I would like to know what is on the roof and if there is a way in from up there.  Then a good look around the outside as well as the grounds nearby.  One thing that we could check as well would be any sewer system that might be here."

Re: The Jail

Selvin glanced at Lucky and shook his head even though he smiled slightly. "Nah. Sorry, I'm not that cool. Normally I'm summonin' creatures t'fight for me, not go sneakin' about."

He continued on, "However, one big difference is that when I don't have 'Zak' summoned up, I can summon things that stick around for over 10 minutes at a shot instead'a just like...a minute total." He gave a shrug. "Still...dunno if that's long enough t'scout the place out really well. But I could bring in a few invisible stalkers. Or air elementals. Or...shadow demons, though those are only good at night. Well...not GOOD but..."

He frowned and glanced at Lucky, "Or I can just summon up some help t'break in an' free everyone so it's not obvious it was us or who we were after. Heh. Or a few succubus...succubi?...t'charm their way in. Or...I can go invisible an' go peek. Or make yuou invisible. LOTS of options, buddy. Whaddya think?"

Re: The Jail

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 4):

As the two of you discuss plans, you notice a few things.

First, there is a sewer line running under the warehouse.  It must have been an old livestock pen or abattoir, because there seems to be a large drain for mucking right outside a back door.

The building is essentially a long rectangle.  Most of it is probably open, though there should be a partial second story.  You can see windows near the roof line indicating there is something up there.

There are three doors in.  A large one open to the mainstreet.  A side one that leads out onto a pier.  And one at the back, right next to the drain.

They have crossbowmen, two, up on the roof.  Each entrance has at least one guard, with about four on the front one.  That door seems to be acting as the command post.

You can't see inside to see the layout.

You notice that the troops seem well trained.  They aren't acting too bored and are staying sharp.  One of them, a woman near the front door, screams spelltosser.  She's got a robe embroidered with all kinds of mystic looking patterns.  Nothing that seems to be magical in and of itself.

There is also a very, very large woman in full plate.  She might actually be an ogress.  You can't see her face because of the helmet.  You don't think she's in charge.  That seems to be the spell tosser.  But the ogress is obviously the heavy here.

And yes, all the guards are women.  In fact, now that you think of it, you haven't seen a male soldier since you entered the city.

There is one other thing that catches your eye Lucky.  You don't seem to be the only ones casing this place.  A couple has passed by on the street, together or seperately, three times now.  They've changed clothes each time.  The woman is pretty good.  You could only tell she was the same because you were looking for it.  The guy...not as good in his disguise.  He's too tall.

Currently, the guy has finished his walk by and is heading around the corner towards an area that seems to be abandonded.

Re: The Jail

After discussing what they both had seen, Lucky tells Selvin of the man and woman he has been observing and as the man moves around a corner to what seemed to be an abandoned area, Lucky says, "Do we care much for the man and woman?  If we could somehow do the break-in and pin it on them while getting our target out, that would be optimal.  Perhaps, we can use the sewer system to get him out and with a bit of distraction it shouldn't be too difficult."

Re: The Jail

Selvin considered things for a moment after Lucky pointed out the other 'group' casing the place. He finally shook his head, still frowning lightly. "So my biggest concern's that they'll mess up our plans, goin' too early, alertin' guards if they fail, whatever. OR," He held up a finger and looked at Lucky, "they're here t'break out the same person we are an' spirit them away from us, or just get in our way. Y'know?"

He shrugged. "I think we should find out more about them. Otherwise we gotta move faster so they don't wreck out move."

Re: The Jail

Selvin let out a small chuckle and shook his head as the other man just darted away. He then talked to himself, big conversationalist, eh?" He mimed a mock-stern expression, "no! lucky! shut up! you're talkin' too much!"

He blinked and realized he didn't have Zac with him which meant two things. One - he felt naked again. Two - he really WAS talking to himself for the first time in a long time...

He let out a sigh and headed after Lucky, staying back a bit, keeping an eye out for danger or anyone noticing Lucky.

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 10):

The man ducks into what looks like is an old workhouse.  From the sign out front, they used to make shoes for noble ladies here.

You can both hear some voices inside.

"Well?  Is she still there?"

"Hadn't moved.  Help me get out of this jacket."  There's some hugging sounds.  "Maybe we should give up."

"We can't!  If they move her to the castle tonight, we'll never get her back!"

Re: The Jail

Selvin looked over at Lucky, gave a shrug and a smile. Then he opened the door and headed inside. He held up his hands in a peaceful no weapons sort of gesture. "Hey there. Don't panic! We're not with the bad guys. I think we're here for the same reason you are."

He grinned. "You're good. It took my friend here a couple o'passes t'recognize that you were passin' back an' forth with dif'rent disguises."

Lucky gave a smile as he was introduced basically.  "So, you are trying to break someone out of there?  Who is she and what plans have you formulated so far?"  Lucky asked before continuing once and if they answered.  "Perhaps, we can be of some assistance to help you, if you allow it."

Re: The Jail

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 13):

The man and woman freeze as you enter and begin speaking.  They look at each other, than at you, and then at each other again.

The woman tosses the man's jacket aside, apparently so she has clear access to the short sword at her side.  It's obvious to the two of you that she probably has only been using that sword for...maybe three months?

The man seems a bit more befuddled, although it looks like he has deep callouses on his hand which could correspond to some kind of weapon training.  But since he had no idea you guys were there...how much could he have?

They both take a step back.  "Uhmmm...yeah.  Trust is rarer than fresh vegetables these days.  Maybe you wanna give us some names?  That might go a long way towards...you know.  Helping things not go crazy here."

Selvin, you do not currently have Zac up, right?

Re: The Jail

OOC: Correct.

Selvin smiled and glanced at Lucky, his eyes and facial expression saying 'how cute'. He looked back at the two and nodded. "Sure. Names. Tarrov. He's my friend. I'm Selvin Larst. My other friend here is Lucky. As in his name. Not sure if he's actually...lucky or not in a fortune-fate sort of sense yet." He frowned lightly at Lucky and then shook his head.

He continued on. "We were up on a rooftop nearby watchin' this place, figurin' out how t'break out a specific prisoner. Benda, so we could get the word t'Tarrov that we're back." He smiled. "Like you said...trust is rare, an' we don't know most o'the people he's surrounded himself with now he's gone underground. We're willin' t'do the work an' break Benda out an' hand her over...if you're part o'Tarrov's crew. If not...or if you're here for someone else...then just don't get in our way an' everything'll be fine. Sound good?"

Re: The Jail

Lucky gave a slight bow as he was introduced.  Then as Selvin explained what they were doing there, Lucky fingered one of his sheathed kukri's while waiting to hear what they would say.  Lucky did note that both of them were not up to any task of breaking anyone out and doubted that they were trying to get Benda out.

Both of them freeze up when you mention Tarrov's name.  They exchange a glance, and then look back at you.

"Tarrov?  The rebel?  That's quite the friend.  What do you think you know about him?"

Selvin let out a clipped laugh. "Ha! Rebel." He shook his head. "I knew him before all that. Hell, we came upon the whole 'quest' t'stop the queen together. He stayed here while we went an' gathered information an' weapons."

He looked the two up and down. "I can describe him. Tell you about him. Give you likes an' dislikes. But if you don't know the white-haired whipcracker, it won't mean nothin' t'ya."

He shrugged and described what Tarrov looked like and a few things about the personality, bag of tricks and such. Nothing too informative to those who don't already know him, but confirmation for those that might.

Re: The Jail

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 19):

Lucky, you are pretty sure what you already suspected.  These two are probably rebels.  Probably here to break Benda out.  And probably aren't up to the job.  The man seems to understand that last fact.  The woman doesn't.

The man probably has feelings for her and has resigned himself to dying with her.

They both strike you as artists of some kind.  Actors maybe.

The two of them flinch when you describe Tarrov Selvin.  But they really blink when you mention that you were partners with him at the start.

They glance at each other and then back at you.  They obviously aren't sure what to do next.

The man licks his lips.  "So...you say you are opposed to the queen?  But why would you be?  Who in their right mind would oppose her?  And if you are in opposition, where have you been?"  He blinks.  "Not that we know anything about the rebels or anything."

The woman rolls her eyes.

Smooooootth.

Re: The Jail

Selvin let out another small laugh. "Why wouldn't we be? I can only assume that's rhetorical given how things are, fear, death, blood, and oppression everywhere."

He shook his head slowly. "Those....those questions are both really long stories." He scratched his chin a little. "Let's just say...the queen isn't herself. So myself an' a few others went off t'find out more about what happened, an' how t'stop it or reverse it or somethin'."

He waved a hand. "Look. We're goin' t'break out Benda. Just stay outta the way so you don't cause any issues for us doin' that, okay?"

Re: The Jail

Lucky knew these two were just not up to what they were trying to do.  "You both are rebels as well, no need to hide it or deny it.  It is clear.  So, as the man has just said, we will free Benda but you will do something for us.  You can serve as a distraction at the front.  I don't care what you do but we need it loud so it brings on other guards.  Don't go getting yourself thrown in jail either so keep it non-criminal.  I think both of you are quite capable of that.  We will do the breaking out.  Now, where shall we tell Benda you will be, afterward?"
