The Beginning of the End

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 10):

"I should object on principal. But ya know...I still smell purple worm goo in my hair whenever I take a bath."

Chandanar pockets an emerald necklace.

The door is definitely a vault type.  And it's trapped.  It's easy to tell that from this side.  The trap is an electrocution type.  Someone trips the lock on the other side and the metal door gets volted up from a magical wand on this side.

It shouldn't be too difficult to take apart, right?

I will need a roll for this one someone.

Thanks

"Hey Lucky, check out that wand." Zuni said, pocketing another handful of gems.  "Guess they don't want anyone coming in here.  Not very neighbourly."

Utilizing the strength and willpower of giants, Zuni puled herself away from the treasure to examine more closely the trap.

Thinking that Zuni meant to distract him, Lucky didn't buy it since he was just told there wasn't any magic in the room.  By then he was looking over the door and found the trap on it.  "Now that is a shocking thing... a trap on a treasure room door.  Zuni before you go trying to disarm anything, let me take a look first."

Lucky took out his tools and began to work on the trigger to disarm the trap.

07:36, Today: Lucky Six-Fingers rolled 42 using 1d20+27.  disable device.

Selvin was very interested in the wealth around them. This was more than he'd ever dreamt of before. But...he was cognizant of the fact that they were in a bit of a hurry and they shouldn't just try to loot everything.

He let out a small sigh and turned towards the door, but stayed back to let the 'professionals' work. "Take your time an' take care. Don't wanna get blowed up - though we might be on the right side of a trap in here since usually y'wanna keep people OUT, right?"

The Beginning of the End

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 13):

Sorry Lucky.  Should have mentioned that the room was pretty big.  The spell just didn't reach that far.  But it was still active as you got closer, hence how you all noticed it.  My bad.

The trap is actually pretty complex Lucky and Zuni.  It turns out to require some effort...

Do you want to just take it apart so you can open the door?  Or do you want that wand?  You can try to take it out whole so you can use it.

Let me know.  Moving on in the meantime.

The door slides open quite silently.  It's almost surprising how quiet this thing is.

You are looking out into a hallway that runs north/south.  You seem to be about in the middle of it.  There is another vault door across from you.  The hall itself continues both north and south about 50' each way and then turns to the west at a corner.

You cannot hear anything.  Mostly because someone has placed a fairly high level enchantment on the hallway, snuffing out all sound.

Lucky can chime in here, but I think that we are going to disarm the trap and take the wand.  Not sure what you mean by take it out whole, but if you are going to let us walk down the hallways with a trap rigged door then that could be fun too.  :)

The lack of sound was unnerving.  Zuni looked down at her feet as they crept down the hallway, expecting to hear her soft foot falls but there was nothing.  She tried snapping her fingers, and heard nothing.  Very unnerving.

The young woman paused for a moment, unslinging her back pack and rooting around inside of it.  She pulled out the sword, The Sword, and tied it to her hip opposite of her Aldori blade.  When the moment came to need it, she wanted it ready.  She also checked to make sure that the small vials in the pouches on her belt were well stocked and ready to use, whether that meant making things go boom or healing injuries.

Lastly, she pulled out a worn looking banner and tied it around the top of her head like a bandana, leaving a section available to pull across her face should the need arise.

In reply to Zuni Runesong (msg # 16):

Yeah, that was badly worded on my part.  The wand is what I meant.

You guys have a wand of lightning bolts.  Casts at 16th level.  Two uses.

Zuni gets her game face on.

Now it's time to decide.  Right?  Or Left?

Having aided Zuni with the removal of the wand Lucky looks to Selvin and hands him the wand while saying something that isn't heard....

Lucky looks down the open hall and seeing no one he moves out and to the right... right is always right.. he thought in his head as he moved down to the corner that turns to the west and peeks around the corner.  Before moving too far he makes a movement to show closing the door and points to the vault door.

The Beginning of the End

In reply to Lucky Six-Fingers (msg # 18):

The hallway turns and heads west.  After another hundred feet or so, you begin to hear your footsteps again.

About at the same point, you come to a branch.  The hall continues west about thirty feet and opens into a large, brightly lit room.  The archway into it is covered by a thick, gauzy kind of curtain.  So you can't make out many details from here about what's inside said room.

There is also a short hallway on your right.  It is unlit, but seems to extend back about forty feet or so before ending in a rather solid looking wooden door.

You cannot hear anything other than your breathing.  It's not because of a silent enchantment.  Just because things are quiet.

For now.

The Beginning of the End

Selvin was content to let the two...trapfinders...of roguish quality and charm...lead the way for the moment. He didn't have a particular opinion on which way to go yet. That may change in the near future. He stayed ready, and alert, watching and listening for signs of danger or anything Zuni and Lucky might have missed.

19:39, Today: Selvin Larst rolled 33 using 1d20+16.  Perception.

In reply to Selvin Larst (msg # 22):

The door is well secured Lucky, but no traps.  You have to finagle to get it open, but it swings open just enough for you to peek through....

Beyond the door is a short hallway with cell doors lining the left hand wall.  Four of them that you can see.  There's no sound from inside, thought that seems the "no one talking" kind of quiet vs. the enchanted kind of quiet.

You can't see into the cells from where you are.

Selvin had to fight the urge to go in first and quickly, in case there was danger, to shield the others. But if there was a trap...he might be able to spot one, but he certainly couldn't disarm one. And he was no expert at finding them either.

So he grit his teeth and let the rogues go first, ready to follow up behind them once it was clear.

The dwarf studies you back Zuni.  He then says, in a really weird, deep voice...deep even for a dwarf...

"Nzzk Forestkiller.  If that means anything to a small human.

"Did the bitch queen send you to torment us with meaningless questions?"

"Nzzk?" A voice calls out from the cell down the hall.  "Did you finally go mad?  Talking to yourself?  Oh.  Wait.  There's a...what is it?  A human?  Is it one of the bitch queen's yappy mutts?"

Selvin heard the voices and let out a small chuckle. It seemed safe enough, thus far, so he moved inside. If they managed to catch sight of him and Zak it would likely cause quite a stir.

He still stayed back a little but spoke up, "I'd tell ya t'stop callin' her the bitch-queen but...we don't really care what ya call her. Dislike ain't a strong enough word for what we feel towards her."

Lucky came into the prison then and took out his lockpicks.  If these were her prisoners they could do well in either causing a distraction or helping them get to the 'bitch queen' as they were calling her.  "No, we ain't working for the queen.  Now do you want to get out of there and give us some help?"

Do you want me to just roll a bunch of checks?

"Small human?" Zuni scowled for a moment, thinking that the Dwarf had insulted her, then thought better of it.  She was on the short side for a human, almost like a giant of a dwarf in size.  She shrugged.  Fair point.

She walked down the hallway to the cell where the voice had come from.  Looking in, she asked the same question.  "And who are you?"

Lucky:  what kind of checks? Opening the doors to the cells?  Figuring out what Grumpy Dwarf really is?  Something else?  Sorry.  Just do not want to assume you are talking about picking the locks. Thanks

Nzzk studies you Selvin as Zuni sashays down the hall to the next cell.  The person there is a tall human woman with very green skin.  Like watermelon rind kind of green.

Greenie blinks at you Zuni and then calls out, "Hey Nzzk.  I don't think she's one of bitch-queen's mutts."

"Yeah.  I don't think any of them are."

"Any?  Oh my.  How many are there?  Greenie walks up to the bars and smiles at you.  "My name is Quicklime.  Cute name, huh?  Whaddya say you lemme outta here?  If you do...I'll be your best friend.  I promise I won't eat you."
