Welcome!

Welcome to the game!

FYI, I picked you all based on a couple factors...the main ones being a posting rate similar to mine, and your rPol experience.  I planned to stretch out the application process a bit longer, but I had so many good responses I couldn't resist.

I plan on doing things a little differently regarding characters.  I want you to pick your characters/party among yourselves.  Hopefully, this will make sure that everyone plays what they want to play and that everyone is happy with the makeup of the party.  If you want to play without a rogue, or want a party of all gnomes...go for it!

For your background story (which doesn't have to be too involved, as you are only a 1st level character), just make sure that your character is in/around the Chicane Guild of Sumberton at the time the adventure starts.  I will post the map of Sumberton and we can assume that your characters have at least a working knowledge of the city.

Good luck!

Re: Welcome!

I've posted a blank character sheet that you can fill in, or provide you own if you wish.

Re: Welcome!

Howdy all and thanks DM for the game invite :)

I'm very keen to try out a Spirit Shaman from Complete Divine. A very tribal chap who in a party of five is probably a great 5th character, being pretty fair in combat (usually as a melee combatant), great as a secondary healer, strong as a caster and with a reasonable skill suite.

He would be human, so hopefully no one wants to be a party of gnomes! I hope this concept fits in with what other people have been thinking :)

Re: Welcome!

I was thinking of tribesy human too, a barbarian, though. We could easily have been from the same tribe.

Re: Welcome!

I had three concepts myself. There was a crusader, but I figure that could be tabled to make way for the Barbarian. That still leaves the Halfling rogue from an adventuring family as a solid Plan B. My first choice, though, is a specialist wizard with a very scientific approach to magic, if that makes sense. Was originally thinking diviner, but now I'm wondering if conjurer would better justify the Knowledge (the planes) ranks... Hoping to go Dark Scholar if the game lasts past L7, you see.

Re: Welcome!

I like the scholarly wizard type, Ganurath. I've seen it played in the past, and it's always something that allows for an interesting angle from the player's perspective.

My three concepts were a ranger/scout type, a poor country knight (fighter and/or knight from PH2, probably not paladin), and a dwarf crossbow sniper rogue.

If we'll likely have both a barbarian and a shaman, I wouldn't want to over-forest the party with the scout, and a barbarian precludes the necessity of a front-line fighter, so I guess if Ganurath does decide to play his wizard, I'll go with my dwarf rogue.

Re: Welcome!

I'll go with the wizard, since it looks like none of your options were going to fill a caster niche. Also, to achieve a better understanding of the world through mastery of forces beyond the comprehension of lesser minds.

Re: Welcome!

So as it seems at this early juncture:

Guelph: Spirit Shaman
Crayon: Barbarian
Ganurath: wizard (conjuration)
Strangeheroics: rogue

That would just leave Theridan. Hopefully he has a keen interest in being a healer :)

Re: Welcome!

Well I very much enjoy playing support characters so if Theridan would rather not play a healer, if be more than happy to come up with one.

Re: Welcome!

While we're waiting... Game Master! How do you feel about alternate class features from either Player's Handbook II or Unearthed Arcana? Specifically, I'm looking to have something that substitutes out familiars, so in my case that either would be Immediate Magic (Abrupt Jaunt) or Rapid Summoning.

Anything from UA is cool with me.  I'll flip through PHB II.

Re: Welcome!

Sorry for the delay everyone.  If we don't get a post from Theridan by tomorrow afternoon-ish, I'll seek out a replacement so we can get started.

Re: Welcome!

In reply to Game Master (msg # 16):

Well, I wonder if I'm a late addition, or substitute ;)

Here were my 3 concepts:

Birahu the Black, human wizard, LN He is new to the valley, only arriving in Sumberton a month or so ago. He is looking for adventure and other ways to advance his knowledge and skill, good ways to acquire new spells and magic!.

Andrigal the Green, Human, NG, Druid of the Vaathwood Guardians, He is very protective of the woods, evil needs to be put down and 'civilization' needs to end it's cutting of the Vaathwood!

Enoch of the Light, human, LG, Paladin Enoch is a crusader of the church of ________ fighting the good fight for his god. He has a strong arm and back, great faith and is obedient to his god to a fault. He obeys the church elders above all else in his efforts to stamp out evil in the Valley of the Obelisks, and would willingly sacrifice himself for his god and church.

But a cleric of Pelor would work just fine. Any druthers? druther have a cleric, or druther have something else? :D

Re: Welcome!

As of right now, you're an addition.  If Theridan remains awol, you're a replacement :-)

Re: Welcome!

If you are keen for a cleric of pelor, that would certainly be the best fit with everyone else's first choice as we are currently missing a healer.

It would also mean that it doesn't REALLY matter what Theridan picks.

P.S. I'm a spirit shaman, so druid would have a lot of overlap with my concept, so I'd prefer no druid, fwiw :)

You're correct.  It should be in the character creation thread.
