OOC:  I'll forego the map for the sake of speed:

The goblin, emboldened by it's ability to dodge the incoming attacks, counterattacks Scalesa, the flat end of its blade smacking her knuckles.

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Desra was frustrated with this goblin ; who hard would it be for four healthy adventurers to deal with this minuscule threat ?

She abandoned her merciful approach and delivered a solid swing down on the goblin's shoulder. The blade cut through the bone and down to the lungs, leaving the miserable creature lifeless.

The priest sighed in relief and looked around, alert.

Desra Jalarond hits AC16 for 7 damage

In reply to Desra Jalarond (msg # 55):

For her part Mina did her best to stay out of everyones way and try not to hit the arrow sticking out of her on anything that would cause it to widen the wound. She put her hand around the base of the shaft and applied pressure to stop the bleeding, then leaned against the wall until the last goblin had been dispatched.

When the threat of danger was over she called out. "If it's not too much trouble, could I impose on someone to lend me a hand removing the arrow I seem to have aquired?"

Desra suddenly turned around, almost surprised upon hearing the timid voice.
"Oh, sure doll ! Don't move..." she hastily said.

The priestess moved swiftly to Mina. She laid her shield and sword on the ground removed her gloves.
"This is going to sting a bit..." she understated.

With a quick motion of the wrist, she broke the shaft and removed the arrow, all the while incanting prayers in a soothing voice.
"Shh... don't worry, it will soon be over."

All things considered, Desra proved still to be much of an apprentice when it came to healing.

  heal check : 6 (oops...)
  cast cure light wounds : +3hp (re-oops)

Haaj looks over at Mina.
Though it didn't look pleasant, Desra seemed to have it all in check for now.
Haaj walked over to the corner and started looking through the crates and sacks.

In reply to Desra Jalarond (msg # 57):

Mina let out a muffled yelp when Desra pulled the arrow free of her flesh. "Well, that wasn't pleasnt in the least." she said forcing a grin. "I thank you Desra for your healing touch." she said putting her hand where the arrow had been. She winced a little, "Still a bit tender, but none the worse for wear. And perhaps a bit wiser for the lesson learned..."

Repost of the room's description:

Torchlight reveals a wide and high chamber of gray-green stone.  Chains and manacles hang from the walls.  A round wooden table surrounded by four chairs sits in the middle and copper doors are set in the northern wall beyond.  Painted in red across those doors is a word of some sort.

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Scalesa glances about the room.  The marking on the doors looked familiar, and now that there were no immediate threats, she was able to get a better look at them...

"'Danger'..." She points to the marking.  Curious, she approaches the door, and examines it.  "The marking, here, says 'danger', in the Goblin script."

As the half-elf examines the door, she also makes use of a very elementary spell used by casters of all walks...that of magic detection.

Scalesa rolled 12 using 1d20+8 ((4)).

Scalesa casts detect magic.

He points at the door, Scalesa is examining: "What's with the door?"

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Guelph piles the coins on the table into five equal piles and points to them with a grunt. He also gathers the goblins' cards. He takes his pile and walk over to Desra. "Found this," he says, giving Desra a key that he found at the table.

There were 150 silver pieces on the table, so Guelph has taken 30sp. He has also put the cards in his backpack to carry for now, probably for group sale later. HE also found the key which he has given to Desra.

"Just being careful," comes Scalesa's response to Haajrayn.  "The door says 'danger'.  It doesn't look dangerous, so the danger must be beyond it." She presses an ear against it.

Scalesa rolled 15 using 1d20-1 ((16)).

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Desra smiles cheerfully after Mina starts feeling better. She stands and picks up her weapon, then looks around and asks Haajrayn :
"Does it look like the whole of it ?"

The priestess takes her part of the coin, satisfied in having something to bring back for the temple of Heironeus. The guild's bounty, that would be her payment ; but this would make for a fine tribute.

She turns to Scalesa and comments :
"So the goblins marked the door, probably to avoid a mishap. Maybe we should take the crates and go back..."

She is all courage and duty, but nothing reckless about it...

OOC:  I'll try not to do this often...but maybe you shouldn't let a result of 9 be your highest search roll? ;-)  I realize that's kind of encouraging metagaming, but to a certain extent, it's unavoidable.

Scalesa pulls her ear from the door.  "You're probably right." She scoops up her portion of the coin, looking at the minting.  She looks at the door with an "I told you so." expression on her face, shakes her fingers, and then gestures at the crates, and then back at the door.

Once she's done with her little display of superiority towards (mundane )portals, the half-elf continues searching the rest of the room.

Scalesa rolled 17 using 1d20+8 ((9))

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

As Desra paces through the room, hoping to find something the others had missed, her foot stumbles on something.

Built into the floor underneath the table, there's a box with a stone lid. It is heavily marked and scratched.  A locking mechanism is built into the stone and looks like it could be fairly difficult to get to.

She kneels by the lid and calls out Scalesa :
"Are you familiar with these things ? Locks, and mechanisms and such ?"

In reply to Desra Jalarond (msg # 68):

Mina took a few moments after her healing to regather herself. Being shot with an arrow gets one to thinking about their own mortality. After a while she moved to the room and helped in the search. She collected her share of the silver that was left on the table, then moved over to stand guard at the door with Guelph.

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

"Yes!" Scalesa replies, as she saunters over to the priestess.  Her gaze goes downward, to where the priestess is looking.  "What have we, here...?"

The half-elf gives the mechanism a once-over, and then reaches into her robes, and pulls out a thick panel of fabric.  Stitched onto the panel are several words in a foreign script.  She draws several small implements out, wrapped in thin cloth, and begins to work at the locks.  "I used to be completely in the dark about this sort of thing, until it was suggested to me by an acquaintance that I learn how to finesse locks.  'Scalesa,' he said, 'You never know when you're going to need to pick a lock.  Might be one day, that you're being asked to...'."

*click*

Scalesa fumes.  "Gods...rest his soul." She sighs, and forces a polite smile.

Here's a bit of a series of rolls...

Roll I - Scalesa rolled 11 using 1d20+8 ((3)); this is a Search check for traps.
Roll II - Scalesa rolled 6 using 1d20+3 ((3))

Yeah, I think she's going to need to fiddle with those locks a little more.   :3
