In reply to Scalesa (msg # 199):

Mina nodded in reply to Scalesa's inquiry. "I have knowledge of the planes, and speak several of the related tongues; I may well be able to decipher what you have not."

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

In reply to Guelph (msg # 200):

Mina took her time studying each of the mirrors. When she had completed her observations she spoke aloud. “This mirror here,” she said pointing to the one that Scalesa indicated as having a faint illusion aura. (Northern most mirror on the western wall) “I saw the images of three individuals appear briefly. One a succubus, another a toad-like creature with a massive maw, and finally a bearded man whose eyes and nose were obscured by a black cloak.” She shook her head. “ Each appeared only for a few seconds and the humanoids appeared to be shouting angrily, although no sound came from them.”

“This middle mirror on the northern wall, I couldn’t see my reflection at all.” She said looking over her shoulder toward Scalesa. “Instead I saw a square room that had piles of ruined armor on the floor.  Squatting in the center of the room was a metallic beetle the size of a large dog.” She said pausing, "There were glowing mirrors lining the walls, and a corridor led to the right, somewhere from down that passage, there was a bright light glowing.”

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Desra listened to the explanations, but there was not much she could add. The other ladies had covered it pretty thoroughly, it seemed. Besides, she was not exactly the brains in this operation. Good-hearted and strong-willed, quick to react and tough to break, but not that well endowed in the knowledge and rational thinking department.

She was clever in her own way though, thus while the others dealt with the interrogation of their prisoner of "war", she started thinking on how to get to the other side without risking the wrath of the artificial monster.

She considered the ladder and tried to place it in such a way that it could grant safe passage to the other lofty area. If it was too heavy, she'd ask one of the men to help out.

I know Scalesa mentioned using in the ooc, and I definitely don't want to rob her of the idea, but I need to keep Desra occupied with something...

Guelph realises what Desra is trying to figure out and moves to the ladder. I will move it for you," he says as he moves over to pick up the ladder. Once he has hold of it he turns to Desra, "Show me where you want it."

In reply to Scalesa (msg # 204):

Mina nodded to Scalesa, "If I remember correctly, somewhere in my studies I recall that our stone centry down there are known to speak Draconic."

She moved to the edge of the pit, she said speaking to the stone warrior, doing her best to remeber her Draconic tongue.,

The maug comes to a slow stop at the sound of Mina's words.  ""  It closes its eyes and for a moment you think you can see the weariness of a thousand years of existence cross the construct's face.  ""  He glances up to the party before continuing his circles.

As Mina begins conversing with the maug, Desra and Guelph begin maneuvering the ladder caddy-corner across the pit to the other platform.  It's long enough to fit fully across, and looks decently stable.

The goblin, now fully awake and conscious, struggles against its bonds.  Looking dead at Scalesa, it says

Draconic: "" she said pausing, and reflecting on the Maug's words. She had never really thought of it before, but the Draconic tongue did have a melodic quality about it.

Draconic: " she said of the goblins.

Then as an after thought she asked, "Do you by chance speak common, some of my companions would like to speak to you as well."

"As you wish," the maug replies in Common, not interrupting its stride.  "I've discovered these vile things can comprehend very little.  As you say: killing and mayhem."

"I am called Karga," he offers.

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Desra looked around, puzzled as the others were speaking in tongues. She was lost like a country girl at a cosmopolitan party.
"what are you talking about ?" she hushed just as Mina asked the construct to speak in plain common tongue.

she  turned to the magus and introduced herself :
"I am Desra, servant of the Righteous One, and not skilled in languages. "
She had added the last part with a broad smile, and presented her luminous ornate shield to the creature. Perhaps it would recognize the symbol of Heironeus.

When the Maug switches to common Haaj steps all the way up to the edge and greets it:
"Well met Karga."

In reply to Karga (msg # 211):

"Pleased to meet you Karga." she replied bowing slightly.

"May I ask Karga, how long have you toiled in your present state? And what are these sigils that you guard so faithfully?" She said sitting down on the edge of the pit dangling her legs over the edge.

Karga gives a subtle look of approval as Desra flashes her shield.  "Well met," he responds.

"Time is difficult to measure after a certain length, so I can only assume I am in at least my third century of duty.  I am not protecting the sigils themselves, but I am guarding against those who might use them to summon otherworldly demons...and, I suppose, the demons themselves which might appear.  It seems as if my superiors have abandoned this laboratory, yet I shall not abandon my post."

"Do you know anything of these mirrors Karga?" she asked. Then as an after thought she added, "Would you mind if I came down there to talk to you? It seems a bit impersonal to be yelling back and forth."

"I cannot really see any mirrors from here, nor do I have knowledge of any; but I have heard these creatures - goblins, you call them? - having discussions with voices that were definitely.....not goblin."

"You are welcome to come down but I would advise avoiding the circles.  I'm certain they are still dangerous," he says.

"I'm not sure how many crea...goblins there are.  They have only been residing here a very small fraction of my tenure.  I would venture to say a dozen but that's most likely an inaccurate number."

Re: Slaughterguarde Laboratory

Desra was still hurting from the vicious cuts inflicted by the goblins. Therefore she silently decided to let someone else go first, if indeed they were to join the odd guardian named Karga on the lower level.

She pondered what he had said, "A dozen or so..."
She did a quick count on her gloved fingers, and whispered : "That's... nine ; no ten with the archer, plus this one -eleven. Hmm..."

She said nothing more, but kept an open eye for things ahead and things behind... there could well be a few more critters lurking in the shadows.

Letting her thirst for knowledge over-ride he sense of fear, Mina climbed down to the lower level and cautiously approached Karga. "There that's better." she said smiling at the creature. "So your sense of duty prevents you from leaving your post, even though you know this place has been abandoned by your superiors?"

"Will you spend eternity fulfilling your obligation? That seems to be a lonely existance Karga." she finished, sympathy in her voice.

Scalesa watches the warrior, and shrugs.  Without wasting a single second more, the beguiler begins to make use of her magic; this time, she weaves a compulsory spell over the Goblin.

Once finished, she turns her attention to the Goblin.  [Language unknown: "Un chhiriil nana al a cedi, wer, allughven his?  Tedastver mathu ec, un?  Ndon e Atiortiou."] Her attention, such as it is* is now on the Goblin, and the Goblin alone.

Charm person, on our prisoner!  Now, for sycophanthy!
