Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

In reply to The Raconteur (msg # 54):

I'll take it!  Now I just need to pick out a spell for levels 2 and 3 and I'll be finished.

...any suggestions?

I was looking at Burst of Radiance, Sacred Space, Consecrate, Remove Paralysis, and Hold Person for level 2...I need to narrow things down more.

You'll need consecrate if you want to do something permanent about Foxglove Manor, right?

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

That's what I was thinking too.  Consecrate would also help in any situation where we were fighting undead; -1 to attacks, damage, and saves as well as +3 to the DC of my channeling against them.

The drawback is that Consecrate is an expensive spell to cast.  The Material components amount to 50 gold; a vial of holy water and powdered silver.  I was thinking that I might be able to get by with purchasing a scroll or two of consecrate.

Sacred Space is almost the same effect as consecrate, but targets evil outsiders instead of undead and has no material cost.  That's why I was looking at it too.

But the more I look at level 2, the more I think Burst of Radiance is a good idea.  An area blind that also damages evil creatures.  We're always fighting evil creatures, and blinding a bunch of baddies can't hurt!

It feels like it's been a long time since we level.  How are we handling HP again?

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

It HAS been a while!  You can choose to roll or you can take the average (rounded up), which would be 4 if you have a d6 HD, 5 for a d8, or 6 for a d10.

Has to be one or the other, though.  Once you roll that's your total!

Okay, I think I'm done with the level up.  I've assumed that we're going to take Escape Route, but I could change that.  I went with Hold Person and Communal Resist Energy for my spells.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

We should go to the Cathedral.  It wouldn't do to take these bodies all around Sandpoint with us!

Also...

My SECOND niece was born yesterday; her name is Madeline.

Now I'm wondering how I'm supposed to give toys and things to each individually without both laying a claim!

Congrats Liseth!

Sounds like a wonderful little family.

And the Cathedral works for me... The consecration issue is pretty pressing. Maybe Liseth could even learn the ritual in game for this purpose specifically?

Cathedral sounds good.  Though, I've been thinking that a visit to Jubrayl might be in order too.  I don't think there are many better sources for information on a shadowy organization out of Magnimar than Jubrayl.  Also, now that Pisca has shaken her illusions about her relationship with Jubrayl, I think now might be a perfect time to start afresh with a more business-like one.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

I'm done leveling to six.

Question: How are we going to handle equipment and upgrades?  I know we haven't been keeping a very strict accounting.  But acquiring equipment, especially magical in nature is part of the game.  Kellan, specifically has mentioned upgrading.  How would you like to go about it?

Here's a suggestion that might be the least onerous.  The list below charts a suggested wealth by level.  Why not let us design our equipment based on the suggested amount?  I believe you let me do this with Pisca at Level 5.  So, in her case, I would simply add equipment equaling or less than the difference between Level 5 and Level 6, which is 5500GP.  All equipment is, of course, subject to your approval.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

I am in complete agreement with visiting the Cathedral and then the mayor.  Cato also wants to visit Brodert, to pick his brain about anything he might have to add about liches and/or a secret cavern under the grounds at the Foxglove Estate.

Oh, a point about equipment: I am intending Cato to be able to help craft some magical items.  He has Craft Wondrous Item already, so we should be able to get those for half off, if we have time to spend on crafting.

This sounds fine to me.  Total up the gp value of the equipment you have so far, then you can add equipment up to the wealth-by-level standard.

Give me a list of the equipment you're planning to purchase and I'll let you know if it's available in Sandpoint.  There will of course be a wider selection of items available in Magnimar, so if Sandpoint does not have an item you're looking for you can hold off and wait until then.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

After giving it some thought, I think I'm going to take the spells Burst of Radiance (Lvl 2) and Prayer (Lvl 3) for this level.  Does anybody have suggestions for something else?  I always try to be careful with spontaneous casters.

Those look good.  Pisca went for Alter Self.  Then swapped out Disguise Self for Feather Fall.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

I'm going to experiment with UMD.  Gold at this level will be invested in Muleback Cords (having nothing to do with UMD), a wand of Mage Armor, and a Circlet of Persuasion.  With the Circlet, she should be pretty close to hitting the 20 for activating a wand every time.

Muleback Cords?  I don't think we've ever paid much attention to carrying capacity.

Re: OOC Thread #10:  Commandments

What value should I attach to the wands we've found?  (Wand of Shocking Grasp and Wand of Gentle Repose)

*Edit*
I mean, I know what a wand costs, I just don't know how many charges they have left.  I think I've used a few from the Wand of Shocking Grasp vs that creepy 7-star carrying enemy.

Not real strict attention.  But Pisca is going to start carrying more weapons, and I don't want to abuse the carry limits.

Because sometimes you just need to punch somebody who's really far away.
