Re: Editing

Pisca is something of a trickster.  In her mind it's better to leave the people behind the critters wondering what happened, than to leave open evidence that we've disposed of them and that we are now here in Magnimar.

I'll admit, though, that I have no reasonably viable way to get rid of the bodies in what appears to be the limited time we have.  Both of Pisca's suggestions, though fantastically interesting, most obviously, involve conduits that we have no ready access to.

Re: Editing

Donate the bodies to a magic academy or itinerate wizard.  Spellcasters always want weird bodies for research or spell components!

You know, this is exactly the kind of conversation that no one writing an adventure ever considers.

Re: Editing

Actually, Pisca has a point. I could summon something. A crocodile?  1d3 wolves. 1d4+1 dogs?  But that probably wouldn’t be clean.

But...once a summon ends, it doesn't take anything BACK with it.  Like matter it may have ingested.  That would be pretty gross.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year's Eve, you all!

You know, I went back and started reading some of our stuff and SIX HOURS LATER I went to bed at around 3 a.m.  This was such a great story and even though we've moved on I'm still proud of it.  This is the best game I've ever had the privilege to be a part of and that was pretty much because of what great players you were.

So many moments.  Thanks for sharing them with me.  :)

Happy New Year!!!

I hope all is well with you and yours.

This game is still the best I've played in here on RPoL after many years.

I broke into a big smile when I saw this game light up. I wonder if some of the others are still around?

Hey Kellan!

Looks like Cato stopped by earlier this month and Pisca and Liseth were both here in October, so I'm guessing they'll see it.  :)

20/20 is the perfect year to be looking back.  I was just remembering that today is Racon's birthday (Happy Birthday!) and here I find that I missed New Year's greetings from everyone!

We had the best roleplaying group I've ever been a part of, bar none.  I'm glad everyone has fond memories.

Hi everyone!  Yeah, I log back into RPOL every once in a while.  Nice to see everyone, and I'll very much echo the sentiment about this game.  I've started playing an in-person game again, which scratches the itch that RPOL did, but I still enjoy logging in and checking things occasionally.

No, I haven't read anything about it yet.  I only learned of its existence a few weeks ago.  Didn't want it to muck up my extensive knowledge of the original edition!

I can understand not wanting to muck around with your expertise.  I've heard good things about 2E though.

I've heard it's easier for beginners, and some people have felt that they included a lot of house rules they were already using, like feat tax stuff or background skills.

But I've also heard it's just a way to sell more books while keeping 90 percent of the original material.

That's my inclination as well.  Not that it's bad to drum up funds, but it feels like the same deal as college textbooks.  Change just a little bit and then charge full price for the new edition.

I'd not heard peep one about 2E.  TTYTT, I'm just getting my feet wet with D&D 5E.  From what I've seen so far, I'm liking it.  It doesn't have the complexity of Pathfinder, and that's both good and bad.  Complexity adds richness.  But, to throw in a Pisca-ism, complexity is complex.

What have you heard about 2E?

I'm in a game that offers background skills.  It's nice to be able to devote some skill points to arts or performance even if it doesn't back up your class.  Or to devote skill points to crafts that don't have anything to do with combat.  Craft[Cooking], for example.

Happy New Year!

What have I heard?

Overall, the game is much simpler to play and understand.  But they still have a lot of character options, but they expanded the feat system a lot rather than making each class a special snowflake with a lot of class specific rules.  Maybe they repurposed my Flavor Feat idea!  ;D

In combat, they did away with Standard, Move, Free, etc actions.  Now each turn every character has 3 Actions.  Different activities take different number of Actions.  Most things take 1.  Casting a Spell takes 2.  Moving takes 1.  You can attack 3 times from 1st level now, if you don't do anything else.  It's just that every attack after the 1st gets a -5 cumulative penalty.  You score a critical hit if you beat the target AC by 10 or more, and no more rolling to confirm.

There are now 3 power sources for Magic:  Arcane, Divine, Primal, and Occult.  Wizards are Arcane.  Clerics are Divine.  Druids are Primal.  Bards are Occult.  Sorcerers pick a source based on where they get their powers.  So, you could have a Sorcerer that cast Divine Spells.

There isn't a specific list of spells for each class.  Each class just falls into one of the boxes for a source.  There is some overlap.  A healing spell might be both Divine and Primal, for example.  It's a way to categorize the spells without having 15 different lists or 3 different spells that do basically the same thing.  The mechanics of spellcaster vary from class to class, depending on whether you are a prepared or spontaneous caster.

So a lot less complexity.  I think there's only 40 pages of rules in the new book; everything else is class descriptions, creating a Character, spell List, skills, feats, game master section, equipment, treasure and that kind of stuff.

Sounds a lot different to me!

That does sound very different.  To the point that I can't imagine how it plays.  I like taking out the Critical Threat roll.  I wonder if the AC+10 for a crit rule would make the game more deadly or less?  Certainly would make better armor more valuable.

Do you know if they took out the Touch AC concept like they did in D&D 5E?

I have no idea.  All that information is actually me recapping a convo I hate with Hand of Fate, so I don't have any other independent knowledge.  But it sounded intriguing!
