Sorry, maybe you missed this question:  Cato, would it be problematic for the adventure if Shiu Lin was a dark elf?

Re: Happy New Year!

Liseth Thoradin:
Hmm...maybe I'll do an Eldritch Knight.  I didn't realize that 5th has it as a Fighter kit instead of a separate Prestige Class.  It's always been a class that I like.

Okay, I need input from outside my own mercurial mind.  Between Rogue and Fighter (Eldritch Knight).  Any advice for fitting into the team?

I've always found that the Rogue/Investigator take a lot of work.  You're doing all the nit picky detailed things.  I tend to be fairly suited for it.  But it can get tiresome.  Eldritch Knight sounds fun.  Lots of BOOM.

In reply to Liseth Thoradin (msg # 529):

You can take a look at Rikard's sheet and see what you think.  He's got a lot of skills and a talent for investigation but no thieves-tool proficiency (or thieves' tools at all, but given that we start in an asylum I doubt we have our normal equipment.

I could see Rikard and your rogue working together pretty well as the more Fred-and-Daphne part of the team, figuring things out.  But Eldritch Knight sounds very cool too!

Re: Happy New Year!

Hmmm, I really don't mind doing the little nit picky things; haven't played a rogue in a long while so I'm ready for those little details.

But also BOOM!  Eldritch Knight is a concept I've always enjoyed but have never been able to fully enjoy playing.  I'm really torn.

Hmm, Racon's spoony Bard is focused in Investigation already; so he's got those little details covered.  Has NO wisdom skills though.  Or tools...hmmm.  Yeah, I already stole a glance at your sheet.  Like a sneaky voyeur!

I'm torn, need to mill it around a bit and see what you guys have to say about it.  They are two drastically different play styles after all!  The rogue would be a Wood Elf, I already know that much.  The Elritch Knight...not so sure.  Maybe Human or Half-Elf.  For some reason the other races (Dwarf, Gnome, etc) feel less appropriate to the AP.

I thought Velma was the one who figured things out!

In reply to Pisca Neep Freemish (msg # 526):

I suppose it would be okay.  I think most people in Golarion, from what I know of the setting, would be unfamiliar with Drow, and just view your character as an unusual elf.  Those who did know about Drow (perhaps sages, or those who had first-hand experience with them, maybe if the events of Second Darkness in Riddleport had happened?) would probably view the character with fear or suspicion instead.

And at the end it would all turn out to be the work of Mr. Ivanov from the local inn, trying to drive down property values.

Hmm.  D&D Beyond lists all the racial languages but ... but none of the racial languages, if you know what I mean.  I guess Human is Human no matter what nation you're from.  There is no language for, for example, the Shou.

I mean, we can assume Common is the common language of Ustalav. I wonder if I can create custom languages in D&D Beyond?

Re: Happy New Year!

A little googling found this:

On Character Sheet where it shows proficiencies and languages at the bottom of the box is a gear icon: click this. It opens a sidebar, at top of sidebar is "add new proficiencies" in the drop down choose languages. It creates a custom language called Custom Language, you can rename it and if wanted type in the source. Your character now knows this custom language.

I tested it out and it seems to work.

Re: Happy New Year!

Alright, I've mulled it over and decided to go with my original Rogue idea.  As much as I like an Eldritch Knight, the concept is too close to the character I'm playing right now with Pisca in another game.  So I'm going to make a Wood Elf Rogue.  Probably use bows and ranged attacks when I can, and light weapons in melee otherwise.  Picking out those Sneak Attacks!

Name:  Luaralise (That way you can still call her Lise!)

Wait, am I the ONLY one whose Beyond account name is different than their RPoL account name?  Ruh roh.

Woosybird is an inside joke between me and my brothers.  Just to alleviate any confusion!  Or add to it.  Whichever.

Re: Happy New Year!

Is there some way to see everyone’s RPoL account name?  I was going to ask that to add you all in once you had characters done. For some reason, I thought it was secret from the other players, maybe because I’ve had GMs in other games who’ve deliberately shared it when a game folded in case the players wanted to stay in touch.

Re: Happy New Year!

Well, looking again, I suppose Racon has a different Beyond name than his RPoL account name.  Since he used Racontuer there too.

I just know everyone's account name because you were all players in the game I GMed before; I don't think there's a way to see it if you aren't the player's GM.  The easiest way to invite everyone is just to link us the game and we can all send you an RTJ.  Then you add us from there.

Re: Happy New Year!

Alternately, you could rMail everyone through the link in the lower right below each character's portrait.  That will get to the Player and not the Character.

But that suggestion is mainly FYI.  I think Liseth's idea is the more efficient way to go about it.
