The Game: Chapter 05

CHAPTER 05
The Feyic Vault, Astraena
Late September

The tunnel extends quite a distance beyond the menagerie, until it eventually opens into a wider cavern perhaps 20 meters across and 15 meters wide.  An iron door stands against the far wall, and strange runes extend horizontally around the wall at about waist level.

The runes are in an ancient tongue that is both similar and dissimilar to Elven, and they pulse with a soft light that seems to choose its color at random. [Private to Boreas Highwind: Sylvan, which reads: Only the strong, the swift, the wise, and the brave will survive these trials.  Enter, if you dare.]

Shaw raises a hand at the edge of the cavern and stops.

"Once you open the door, the trials begin.  Each trial is different, and the trials themselves rearrange themselves at random, making it difficult to predict which you will get.  The network of tunnels beyond grow increasingly difficult to navigate, until eventually you must turn back or be destroyed."

Quinn and Charles nod gravely.

"We've seen a little bit of both in our time here, but perhaps you'll have better luck.  Any ideas?"

[Private to Keef: Are you going to leave the Everstaff in the menagerie, or take it with you?]

Re: The Game: Chapter 05

Boreas' eye glows as he looks, confused, at the lettering.  He scans it over and over, as if it makes a little more sense each time.  After a few moments, he shakes his head and arises from his reverie.

It says that only the strong, the swift, the wise, and the brave will survive the trials.  Have any of you undertaken them? he asks the Bluebands.  Can you even attempt them more than once?  Zuriel, this might be a good occasion to use your book.
