"Hort would never pull this kind of shenanigan," Maeve grumbles, but she stows all her stuff in the bag before trying the door once again.

In reply to Maeve Hassan (msg # 812):

Having complied with the well-foreshadowed and basically explicitly stated directive, Maeve safely enters the room. The fountain burbles happily, oblivious to her presence.

Zuriel follows, teeth chattering as he too stows all his gear, and the gear left behind by Lyriel.

Keef, wherever he is, suddenly has a sense that he should appreciate holding his weapons with no ill-effects and that he is very good at following explicit instructions.

Unless he's dead, that is.

Re: The Game: Chapter 13

In reply to Keef (msg # 815):

The P.A.R.T.Y., now inside the room, is finally able to spare a moment to look through the glass. Runes etched in the panel of glass itself catch the light in the room in a strange way, warping the image such that it is difficult to observe anything unless you're standing directly in front of it.

Once you do manage to stand directly in front of it, the glass appears instead to be a mirror. If anyone were to touch it, the impact would cause ripples to extend across the mirror for a few seconds. If anyone were to exert any force at all against the mirror, they would find their finger, hand, foot, or whatever would pass into the mirror entirely.

In reply to Lyriel Vesper (msg # 817):

Lyriel vanishes, leaving only a ripple in her wake. This, too, quickly fades.

[Private to Lyriel Vesper: Inside the Mirror
You find yourself on a platform of darkened stone that stands roughly 50x50, with the ground just 5 feet thick. It seems to be suspended in space, with an atmosphere of dark lavender all around it.

The air is stuffy, the breeze is strong, and the temperate is bitterly, bitingly cold.

In the center of the platform is a crystalline egg, which is bound to the ground by five heavy chains. The brackets that hold each chain to the stone glitter with a steady red light, and look like they could be easily pulled from the ground with a hearty tug.

A column of red light streaks down from the sky, its origin unknown. This column pierces the egg directly in its center and remains a steady, constant presence. It is the only source of illumination to be found.

There are no obvious exits.

Re: The Game: Chapter 13

Events transpire

[Private to DM, Lyriel Vesper: Zuriel steps next to Lyriel, sucking his breath in at the sudden cold. "What is this, then? An egg? For the rebirth of gods and goddesses? Seems fitting," he murmurs quietly, words turning into puffs of cloud. He wasn't sure why, but felt the need for solemnity. The paladin kneels by the egg, and places both hands on it reverently.]

Are Zuriel and Maeve still lost?

Chubbs suffers great internal anguish: pee in the pool or don't even give it that much deference?

Maeve ought to be surprised, but nothing much surprises her anymore.

"Keef!  I'm so glad that you're ok.  And Chubbs too, of course."

"No, Zuriel and Lyriel aren't lost, they just went into the magic mirror."

It occurs to Maeve that she just might be living in a fairy story.

Good to have you back, Keef.  I knew you'd make it.

Boreas claps the young wizard on the back.

The others went through that glass thing.  No word on what's beyond.  We might want to give it a go as well, though.

Keef stands up on his tip-toes and squints at the mirror.

Then they ARE lost, he says with a knowing nod.

Keef stands still for a moment, then looks down at his left hand where the Everstaff would normally be.

Oh.  Just me then.

Keef walks into, and if it allows, through the mirror.

The paladin sets about attempting to dislodge the chains from their mooring.

Boreas studies the egg for a bit, pacing around it, getting a look from all angles.

Trust nothing you see...

Okay.  Let's try something...

He focuses on the third link in one of the chains and shouts a word of power.

Re: The Game: Chapter 13

In reply to Zuriel Silendril (msg # 834):

Zuriel walks over to the nearest chain, reaching it only moments before Boreas's baleful utterance blasts one of the central links of the chain to smithereens.

The egg, which had been resting lifelessly beneath the weight of the chains, immediately surges with energy, hurling itself upward against its remaining bindings with surprisingly force.

The stone slab creeks and goans and these efforts extricate the four remaining chains from their stakes, and before long the egg is sitting upright, unfettered.

The multifaceted crystal is now lit entirely by the shaft of red light streaking downward into it (the source of which is still unclear). As you watch, it begins to rotate on its base until all you can see if a blur of reddish light.

As you gaze at the blur, you can slowly make out purplish, otherworldly eye that's fully as large as the egg itself: 10 feet tall, five wide, and utterly piercing in its clarity.

The eye looks angry, and the words that are emitted from the crystal shatter the silence in no uncertain terms, at a volume so high it makes your ears ring afterward.

"Tremble, mortals, and despair
For ye have breached the Liar's lair
On whose authority came ye?
At whose command shall Ká be free?
"
