Do we randomly generate?
Or can we import orphan's from the VnV forum?

And can we get an idea of the game world, so we can theme our characters.

Re: OOC: On the Side

Would you like us to PM possible characters?
Also, if you want random generation, I can give you a set of dice links to help.
    character generation code, rolling 4d6 for characteristics (and dropping the lowest dice)
  1. the post would be typed like this
    The character generation process follows a fairly linear path.
    First you will need to choose your character's race (human or otherwise). This choice can be modified if you change your mind during the process. Then you would need to choose what sex your character is (this could be affected by choice of race, as well). Finally you will need to choose your character's height and weight. Height should be between 4' and 7' while weight should be between 90lbs and 300lbs.
    Then, you will need to use the dice roller, the following links will guide you through the rolls to determine random characteristics. Please roll once for each of the links:
    [dice=4d6 dok=dl drop=1 memo="char roll" text="random characteristic roll"]
    [dice=4d6 dok=dl drop=1 memo="char roll" text="random characteristic roll"]
    [dice=4d6 dok=dl drop=1 memo="char roll" text="random characteristic roll"]
    [dice=4d6 dok=dl drop=1 memo="char roll" text="random characteristic roll"]
    [dice=4d6 dok=dl drop=1 memo="char roll" text="random characteristic roll"]
    Now assign these five numbers to Strength, Endurance, Agility, Intelligence, and Charisma as you see fit.
    Now, we need to find out your powers. The number of powers you get will be:
    [dice=1d6+2 ones=yes memo="powers roll" text="number of powers"]
    To find out what the powers are, you roll percentile dice for each power and compare it to a chart.
    The specific chart to use depends on the source of power desired. The choices are:
    [list][*]Powers (innate abilities)[*]Devices (technological devices)[*]Skills (extreme training)[*]Magic/Psionic Items (mystical devices)[*]Magic/Psionics (innate mystical abilities)[/list]
    For the number of times indicated by the previous roll, choose one of the following links and click to roll.
    [dice=1d100 memo="Powers table" text="innate ability"]
    [dice=1d100 memo="Devices table" text="technological devices"]
    [dice=1d100 memo="Skills table" text="extreme training"]
    [dice=1d100 memo="Magic/Psionic Items table" text="mystical devices"]
    [dice=1d100 memo="Magic/Psionics table" text="innate mystical abilities"]
    One other percentile dice is rolled to determine a weakness.
    Use the following link once:
    [dice=1d100 memo="Weakness table" text="weakness roll"]
    Please copy the results of your rolls and paste into your next post.

Is it me your looking for?

Cuz I wonder where you are, and I wonder what you do.

:P

Ready to get to it!  Seems like the game is just getting started and still getting built.

I'm sure we will get more info soon.

I for one would be up for some new random rolling...although I'm usually not super lucky in that area...:)

Yes, random rocks.
Sometimes, so does Lionel Richie.
Did you see the cool names in the private list?
There's a prince, a king, and a colonel. That's all well and goo, but for some reason I am now preparing to warp my character so that I can use the name 'Hero X'

Re: OOC: On the Side

Random does rock. I leave it up to you guys, the players, to submit a VnV character for approval. You can design it, randomly roll it, design it with me, design it on the roller as outlined above, but bear in mind that ther should be the following guidelines:

1: You get ONE reroll, on anything, at anytime. sometimes you get rerolls as a bonus.

2: If you go Random,

1d6 = 1-3 =male, 4-6 = female
Age is 13 +2d6 (15 to 25)
Weight is 5d6 x10 if male, 5d4 x 10 if female

If you are a robot, all of your stats are 15

If you are an Android, all of your stats are 17

You can pick:

Str: 13, End 13, Agil 15, int 15, Cha 15 to start

or

Str 15, End 15, Agil 15, Int 13, Int 13

Or

Roll 2d10 for each. (2 to 20)

you need a name, a secret id name, and then need to make a total of six percentage die rolls, in a series. This will determine your background/ origin. 80% of you will be from Beacon City, and more than likely will be human, but alien, extradimensional, and out of time backgrounds are possible.

THe world is like our world, science works like our science more or less, but:

1. There seem to be Aliens, of some kind. At least there are powered individuals claiming to be aliens.

2. There seems to be "magic" it is undetermined if it is super psionics or supernatural power at work. people are scared of it.

3. Transportation technology is slightly more advanced in this world than in ours, and this world has a much more robust space program, with permanent space stations at the north and south poles, and a hub at the equator.

4. Governments keep an eye on Superheroes, but dont go crazy and try to register them or anything. The UN maintains the hidden Global superprison.

5. Most people at work in the Superhero field that dont have a record, arent an antihero, etc. follow "The Code". Silver Knight's 1954 book on Superheroics and Ethics. This generally defines "good". It is NOT a requirement, and most younger heroes scoff at its boy scout views.

6. Enhanced individuals have always been around, many theorize, but there was an explosion of them in the post war world (1946+), leading many scientists to speculate on use of atomic weaponry in tests as being a species trigger.

Technically no. The upper level heroes (Alphaman, etc) are STRONG, and themselves are a dterrent to all out crime war. Part of this game will be control of power, and wise use  of it. i will try to keep as much of a balance as i can. Common sense should apply and so should if you can make it work.

1d6
2d6+13

1d6+2+W=NP

W=Weakness
NP=Number of Powers

d% x NP = for each power, pick from the Powers, Devices, Magic, Magic Items, Skills Tables, and roll d% for each one: (43 on Powers, 60 on Skills, etc.

d% x 10

5d6 x 10

5d4 x 10

2d10 x 5

d% x 5

Roll up that set of numbers, anywhere you want, and ill come back with a set of stats/powers for you to work with, under VnV rules.

Re: OOC: On the Side

This sequence accounts for all aspects of random generation, and leaves in other variables that would skew it enough to be unique every time. I ypher the die rolls so that even if you got a book, you wont know what your power roll resuults will be.

I guess the only real major difference is that stats are at 2d10 rather than 3d6.

Rolled up a hero, confused on "CIA's Manned Orbiting Laboratory Crew" option.  Would those choices be *in addition to* regular char gen, or instead of?  I'd def like Mercury Man (MM) to have a PhD in some type of science (magnetism?), and all those extra powers (bionics, etc) are nothing to scoff at.

Here's what I rolled up so far, like it!  (Changed to PM, you can all learn about Mercury Man as we play.)

Pswitch is a costumed hero in this city.
She is a 'telekinetic': it appears to be, by far, her defining Power as a super hero, and she is very powerful in it.

I am working on her heroic appearance now: but thinking of a combination of Lawrence of Arabia and 'V' ... the whole swirling robes and porcelain mask.

She, of course, has a mundane identity ... but I'd prefer to leave that for game play to reveal.

The Wizard is, also, one of the city's costumed vigilantes. On the other hand, nobody really knows what his power is. It's suspected he doesn't, either.
It doesn't help that he was once seen thwarting a carjacking while wearing clam diggers, a smiley-face t-shirt covered by a formal dickie (complete with ruffles), an easter bonnet, platform shoes, and a beach towel tied on as a cape. By all accounts, the intended victim was spared because the perpetrators couldn't stop laughing (they're responding well to treatment).

I work as a direct aid minister, and gotta say, people lately, have really, really, been off the wall. And it is not the usual drugs, crime, poverty, and booze. It has been a weird social craziness. Hard to describe.

I hear that on the food allergy stuff.I have a deadly one to shrimp and coconuts, the shrimp one being so bad that I dont even mess with fish, just to be careful. I used to carry an epi-pen, but long ago, i just toook pretty strict control of my diet. the thing you really need to watch is oil. They put peanut oil in everything. Second t that? Coconut oil.

My youngest, Duncan James, (named for Duncan Idaho from Dune) had Cats and Eggs, but now seems to have acclimated by age 5, but it was rough going at first when it came to jabs. Food allergies and kids can be some scary stuff, to be sure. Getting them to realize what they have early on, and look for trouble helps a lot.

As a child, I was allergic to almost everything -- peanuts, many veggies, chocolate, cheese, dogs, cats, and some other stuff.  Coconut & shrimp were ok, though.  But it was all 'mild' allergies -- scratch, sneeze, itch, but no real worries.

(Then again, both parents smoked 2+ packs a day and I had horrible life threatening asthma, and they didn't realize that maybe the cigs were affecting me.)

It's interesting -- I wonder if he'll grow out of it like I did by my mid 20's, or if he's got it for life...?

I appreciate the positive support on rpol.  I'm damned impressed with the players on here.

And, we're on!

This first post is a cutaway "meanwhile" sort of post, you are all not there, in a comic, this would be the first few panels, intro pages... the next parts are intro parts, for you guys, left open to describe what you are up to... Mercury Man and Forge know each other well, but the rest of the team has yet to meet.

When writing a post? Go on the assumption that whatever you are doing at the moment, by some way or another, you can hear the BCPD respond to this event (police scanner, hear it out the window, it wakes you up, etc...)

This post is also LOADED with plot threads, things to follow up on....

Bear in mind, I do NOT expect you guys to be fully developed yet as characters or as a team, and so begins our intro...

From V&V book, from Appendix 8.1 'Speed Conversion' on pg 44:
    inches per turn / 4.4 = mph
    mph * 4.4 = inches per turn
    1 inch = 5 feet

I can't offer a metric conversion there, but with Google you could probably figure it out quickly enough.  (Why the heck USA never went metric is hella annoying to me.)

Re: OOC: On the Side

So Pswitch can use TK out to 42".
In game terms, that's 210', right?
And in metric, that means 64 meters.

She can TK stuff (including herself) at 42" per turn.
In game terms, that's 210', right?
Which in metric means she flies at 64 meters a turn.
= 75.5 kilometers per hour (or 47 miles per hour) ... based on approx 3sec per turn

Does that seem right?

Sorry, I get 42" per turn = 9.5 MPH, not very fast.

for DISTANCE/TIME, use the 4.4 conversion.
For a general sense of distance, you can use the 1" = 5'.'

What I'd do is compute the distances with 4.4 conversion, then convert that to meters / Kilometers per hour.

Oh, you are probably correct.
So 210' per turn (3 seconds?) is 4,200' per minute.
= 252,000' per hour
= 3.9 miles per hour.

Is that math correct?
Which would make her TK movement about 'walking speed'

What I'd do is compute the distances with 4.4 conversion, then convert that to meters / Kilometers per hour.

I have no idea what you mean by 'use 4.4 conversion'.

Use this conversion ==> inches per turn / 4.4 = mph

Don't use ==> 1" = 5'

You'll get 42"/turn = 9.5mph

Wse this data to compute your metric conversion.

Pswitch:
I have no idea what you mean by 'use 4.4 conversion'.

Sorry to confuse.

inches per turn divided by 4.4 = mph

4.4 is the magic number to convert movement in V&V.

Re: OOC: On the Side

NOTE: Move rates, of any kind, are further divided from "inches per turn" by the number of the characters PHASES PER TURN.

Example: The Molten Man moves at 100" (or, 500 feet) per turn. With his best initiative roll, he comes out in combat with 4 phases, making his maximum normal 25" per Phase. The molten man can move 125 feet in a split second, then make an attack with lava bombs, (or attack and THEN move.) this all occurs inside of your character's PHASE.

The strategy in this is being able to visualize position (we are keeping this warmup combat loose on purpose) and then try to anticipate where combat could go. Visualizing time is also important. though, on the board, a combat could take months? in game, a "Turn" is a few SECONDS. It is granted that you guys can talk, etc. inside of that timeframe.

Think of the inches in movement as a "fund":

Example: The Molten Man is getting punched out by The Invader.. The molten man gets pissed, and decides to burn all 100" of his movement rate for the turn, on a haymaker attack at full speed to the Invader's gut. After making this move, the Molten Man will be stationary for the rest of the turn. He ran out of move rate. He "burned" it, or "spent" it, etc.

Note that Molten Man will still be able to make movement type actions (like drawing his heat gun, and then attacking with it) he just wont be able to physically move.

Does anyone know what the average weight of a car is? A truck? A motorcycle?

I don't even know these things in their metric equations.  But I'm trying to get a handle on how much mass Psitch can handle, in a practical sense.

The spell is new, and you said, "I make it weigh ___"  and the magic responds to that. the spell is cast.

Wow, that seems like a pretty handy spell!

Congrats Wizard!!!

Re: OOC: On the Side

No no, Forge, you are not holding anything up. It can be confusing in general knowing when to go... figure a post per attack, and in rough order,  you dont need to wait for the posts to match the initiative rolls, just describe what you are doing, like this:

Phase 33:

I set my squirtgun to kill, and fire on the  closest cossack to me.

( the use of "I" and "me", etc, is assumed that you mean your character )

Re: OOC: On the Side

Dunno about y'all, but I'm sad about the silence in *ALL* of my games.
:(

So, to boost my spirits I uninstalled a torrented app (thank you, http://kickass.to) & bought it for myself for holidays.
:)

One of (Samsung) Android's advantages over iPhone = (so called) 'IR Blaster'
SMART IR REMOTE app
https://play.google.com/store/...s?id=com.remotefairy

It's not the cheapest app, but it sure is fun remote controlling *almost everything*!
Works on my TV, sound system, cable box, (and devices at work, in bars, etc etc).
(Only doesn't control my ROKU, and that's got a separate remote control app.)

I'm not affiliated with the company, I'm just bored on rpol & wanna stir things up.
(and y'never know, someone else might be looking for something like this too?)

It's been so long, that I thought Mercury Man was someone else!  HA

Will Smith has graduated to Djini status.  Just got a copy of Aladdin, haven't watched it -- figure it's ideal for 2yr & 6yr olds more than myself.

I did also watch Godzilla King of the Monsters.  Some reviewer said it was so much better than Pacific Rim 1 & 2, and while I was disappointed by #2, they were both waaay better than any Godzilla movie to date.  That said, I'm hopeful someone picks up the Titans vs SuperRobots mantle and starts taking it in a better way that Transformers.  Haven't seen it yet, but I'm hopeful.

Independence Day?  Indepence from what?  We traded one set of nobles for another.  It's getting near time to get rid of these ones too.  They are anti-society and so selfish, better to get those funds back in circulation to help the masses again.
