Re: ooc: volume 2
I am beginning to wonder if maybe Penny has a death wish. Given her guilt it makes sense.

Re: ooc: volume 2
Yes I can see her bravery. It just a question of where does it come from. Some are brave out of a sense of hopelessness, ie death wish. Some out of a sense of hopefulness, ie self sacrifice. I was just wondering aloud that given her Penny's guilt if perhaps her bravery is out of a sense of reckless disregard for her own life. That's all.

This is really just speculative curiosity. It doesn't matter one way or another in or out of character. I am just wondering aloud...or in writing...or whatever.

Re: ooc: volume 2
I just see her as brave and plucky, eager to catch her foe, and as a strong-willed person who won't readily back down from a fight or challenge.

There's a Penny in my head whom I try to understand and translate to the screen each day with varying degrees of success. :)

Re: ooc: volume 2
Good luck!

For interest, the Codex Gigas, the "Big Book", also known as the Devil's Bible:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Gigas
Legend has it that in 13th-century Bohemia, a disgraced monk sentenced to be walled up alive vowed to write a grand book in a single night to forgo his punishment. Failing, he sold his soul to Lucifer, who one way or another helped him complete the task in the night. (Though studies suggest one hermit-monk working for 20 to 30 years is more likely). The so-called Devil's Bible includes a terrific image of Satan on page that has turned black as if burned (darkened by continual exposure to light, actually). Also included are magic spells, including ways of exorcising demons and preventing demonic possession.

The Codex Gigas passed through the Sedlec Monastery, later site of the Sedlec Ossuary for victims of the Black Death:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_Ossuary
Later it came into the collection of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, a devotee of the occult, astrology, and alchemy. It was later taken as war booty to Sweden. When their castle caught fire in 1697, the Codex Gigas was rescued and hurled out the window, hit and injured a bystander, and several pages were lost and blown away. They were never retrieved.

Actual medieval occultism is so much more interesting than what a lot of modern TV shows and novels make up. I saw the National Geographic documentary yesterday.

Has anyone seen Attack on Titan? I'm not an anime fan by aaaaaaany means. I've barely seen any and it's all pretty mainstream stuff. But this is epically awesome intense stuff. Amazing. Also veeeery violent and a lot of people die...love it anyway :D

Re: ooc: volume 2
Me too. I watched a few about Nazi occultism, they were just insane.

I've seen Attack on Titan, the whole first season of the anime. I'm not an anime fan either, but it was okay. The concept of the siege by giants is intriguing, but frustratingly, you don't learn much more at the end season than you do at the start. The main character is annoying as hell at first (ALWAYS SCREAMING DEFIANCE!!!) but settles down a little. Or you just get used to it. The action scenes are great. It doesn't need action lines and effects on the arguments though. Nor lengthy monologues at inopportune times, like in the middle of battle. There's too many characters; though it's nice to get the views of the other people involved, I tended to forget who they all were after a while.

Re: ooc: volume 2
Yeah, they are laughably over dramatic and the theme song...*snickers* but the action and drama are addicting. I'd love to see the voice actors faces while they record. Prolly crazy entertaining...

The theme songs change halfway through the season.

I was bewildered at first, but after a while I really got into the series.

Re: ooc: volume 2
I made up an identity for Jack the Ripper earlier, but this documentary:
http://www.channel5.com/shows/...isodes/episode-3-616 (not available outside Britain)
presents a very good candidate in Charles Allen Lechmere, rather extensively outlined here:
https://unsolvedwhitechapel.wo...rles-allen-lechmere/
It's circumstantial, but his presence as first witness on the scene at one of the murders, apparently moments after it happened, and his prime-serial-killer background made a very compelling argument.
