Chapter 8.5

heroic surge: 1/3
Ability surge: 1 round remaining
Heroic surge: Drew pistol
Attack 1:rolled 25 for 9 damage
Attack 2:confirmed Crit for 36 (x3 for blessed)

Darren was feeling the effects of his exertion. The youth noticed a few things and it dawned on him what he was fighting and while he didn't mind playing out a good game of fist o' cuffs, his stear was fading. Relief broke his face as he seen equal signs of fatigue in the creature but when it turned on Jo, well that broke his straw.

Darren hand immediately flew for his jacket, gripping the cool polished handle and drew out his peacemaker. The gun gleamed as the long metal barrel reflected light as if it too was excited to end this monster. Darren stepped slightly back and pulled the trigger twice, the first shot hitting square but the second shot was devastating, winging the creature's head. Darren stood gazing past the smoke.

" One shouldn't 'it a respectable dame! " Darren exclaimes.

and rolled to confirm crit. ]

Chapter 8.5

The possible ghoul is incredibly affected by the head shot and though she sways greatly, she's still just alive enough to withdrawal and try to run out the front door...

ooc: Normally with withdrawal one of you wouldn't get an AoO, but since you are using ranged weapons now go ahead and fire off another shot each before she gets out the front door. You can try to follow but keep in mind she's inhumanly fast so make your next shot count.

Simon:

Lily nods, readying her own gun, though with the shots firing you are wary of just bursting in. You are many things but not bullet proof. As you near the shooting increases and the front door flings open violently, revealing a fleeing woman, disheveled and riddled with wounds...

ooc: They have one more shot before you get there Simon. She's not out the door yet so within the next round you can make it to the door if you want, but keep in mind there are bullets flying.

Chapter 8.5

"Shit yea!" Josephine shouted happily, firing her shotgun one more time nearly into the sky with her excitement. Her aim was so bad that if she'd missed by much more, she'd have shot herself in the face, but she didn't care: she was excited!

Turning towards the man with her, she grinned and blew a hair out of her face, staring up at the errant lock with nearly crossed eyes,

"So you're Frederick, huh? Nice to meetcha! I'm Josephine Hartley!" she said, extending a hand for a shake, while leaning the shotgun to the side. As the hot metal hit her shoulder, she yelped, surprised and jumped, but then with red cheeks, she hung the weapon at her side, and tried again with a friendly hand extended.

Chapter 8.5

AoO round:rolled 29 to hit,no Crit, doing 14 damage

Darren turned, lined up his shot as the creature ran. Pulong the triger and sending a round square in the creature's back. Darren wasn't sure how this thing wasnt dead and felt almost awed by its staying power.

Darren looked to Jo as the young blonde exclaimed and burned herself. Her moderate innocence made the young man's day and brought a smile to his face.

" Oh, I'm no-", the young man started before nearly losing his balance as fatigue washed over him, an observer wold almost swear his muscles deflated as Darren braced himself against a wall to catch his breath.

"I'm not Frederick, an' I hope he's not amongst the...", Darren stopped but his words didnt need finishing.

Darren, while leaning, too Jo's hand gave a weak smile," Names Darren, friends call me Boon."

Chapter 8.5

Simon, as you and Lily take position the woman is unceremoniously shot in the back. She screeches and stumbles forward, falling to the ground as if dead. Lily looks down at her and then at you. Is this good or bad? she frowns. Then you see inside the door and spot a happy looking Josephine and a stocky young man with amber hair and beard. Taking this as leave enough, Lily turns and grabs the unconscious woman's arm, dragging her body inside with a grunt. Already have the cops after me. Someone is sure to have heard that she mutters.

Darren/Jo: You look out to see a priest and a nun dragging the mystery woman's still body back inside. For Darren it will seem quite surreal; almost like the beginning of a joke you'd hear at a bar. Jo, it takes you a moment to recognize the nun as Lily.

You alright Jo? the nun asks Josephine, green eyes flashing on her pretty face. Darren realizes by now she's an Indian of some sort. You want me to shoot him?

Chapter 8.5

Simon walked in behind Lily, hands up in case Josephine's new friend had an itchy trigger finger. "I am Father Simon Cole, Eastern Orthodox Priest and exorcist. This I Lily my...partner in crime." He gave Lily a knowing smile, who knew how many of man's laws they had broken in the last few hours.

He continued, "The witch has expired." He crossed himself (Eastern Orthodox cross North South East West, transposing the Roman Church on which shoulder is tapped first) and continued, "We were returning to Victoria...in disguise," he motioned to Lily's "vestments" and went on, "and we learned that you were here."

Chapter 8.5

Reloading her shotgun quickly, Josephine frowned, and then turned, pointing both barrels directly into Darren's chest,

"I'm not sure, maybe I'll do it myself. Who are you, Darren Boon, if you aren't Frederick?"

Turning and looking at Lily, Josephine looked a bit confused,

"And who is Frederick anyways? The woman told me to help him, but I found these two fighting, and I thought he was him, but he isn't?"

Chapter 8.5

SeeinG a preacher and getting an introduction Darren smiled and put away his revolver, under his coat. Then the gun turned on him. The youth raised a brow and looked at Jo with his emerald eyes and despite the gun Darren pressed jis back to the wall and let himself slide slowly down to a sitting position. Darren still felt fatigue and while he wasn't wanting a fight, he'd seen worse odds.

" if'n ya wanted me ta talk 'bout m'self all ye had ta do was batt yer eyes Miss." Darren said as he sat there patting himself down. " Boon or Darren btw, either can be used to address me but neither are my surename." Darren added clarifying his name for the blonde.

"And by the by, I believe I'm here same as you, ta save or help Freddie, he got me in ta tha huntin' business.

Darren looked around and recalled the fight, it hadnt seemed like it was him doing it nor that any of this was possible, this business was still new to him and this was a new monster, Darren wondered absently if he'd every be used to it.

Chapter 8.5

As Darren slid towards the ground, Josephine looked completely confused as to what to do. She'd expected him to jump, or be afraid, or something like a normal person would be... not just nonchalantly slide to the floor. His experience in life must've been a WHOLE lot different than her own, but to be fair, she could see it. She'd had a gun in her face enough back home at the bar to not bat an eyelash too hard.

Hearing his explanation, she, instead of aiming the gun at him further, slid down the wall next to him, breathing a sigh of relief. She hated threatening people,

"Well that's good to know, Darren. So what was Freddie doing here when he disappeared?" she asked, and after a comical pause, she batted her eyes dramatically at him with a hint of a smile on her lips.

Chapter 8.5

Darren's eyes looked over Jo as she slid down the wall to sit by him, his face face broke into a warm smile and he nods towards Simon before looking back to Jo. Now that he was looking, she was quite a woman, one any man would find pleasing to be around.

" Well now Blondie," Darren said with a smile and a light tone. His fatigue was leaving him and despite a few cuts and bruises Darren was starting to feel himself again. "I'd say short of Frederick 'imself sayin', I couldn't tell ye," Darren concluded before looking around and wondering of this would be his new normal.

Darren regarded the preacher and his partner and smirked, he hadn't caught all of what he said but gathered they weren't going to be turning him in. " probably should look around, mayhaps Frederick is still about...hopefully in a single piece." Darren said and looked to his new companion to see if they twould thought it'd be a fruitful task.

"You can go then, we'll be fine here, searching for Frederick. He's important to Victoria."

And with that, she held out a slender hand, not entirely sure if she COULD help Darren stand, but she'd be damned if she wasn't going to try.

Darren watche'd the father leave and windeed who he was. DarRen felt good and despite it all he now had company of the sort that brighten the room. Darren looked up at Jo with a smirk and took her hand and wit her help the young man stood.

Looking around and brushing himself off he sighs, " Now if'n one of us were a ghoul, where might we hide a live captive, Darren said aloud, still naively holding onto the idea they hadn't been too late.

Her face showed surprise as she fell forward when Darren stood, reaching out and catching herself on, well, him.

Embarrassed blush later, she looked down and brushed her hair back,

"I don't know, somewhere we can't hear them, like underground? Basement?" she ventured a guess.

Darren was caught off guard when Jo fell into him but not negatively, he smiled down at her warmly and listen as she spoke, she wasn't wrong, a basement or stow away location would make an immediately good place to hide those unwilling to be eaten.

" Suppos'n we should have ourselves a look," Darren said as he started to move deeper in, drawing his blessed silver knuckles. He didn't know much about ghoulS but disn't want to be caught unready.

Watching Darren closely from the side as he moved, Josephine was intrigued, albeit only slightly. He was interesting, certainly, as he was new, but she knew better than to get sucked down THAT road again.

As he left, and drew what looked like some kind of weapon for his fists, Josephine held her shotgun close to her chest, not entirely sure what she should be doing other than following him downstairs.

Chapter 8.5

Darren moved with purpose, he'd wasn't sure if ghouls ran in pairs or packs but there seemed to be a number of bodies so it stood to reason to be ready for another confrontation. It was then that it occurred to him he didn't know his would-be partner's name yet and unless her name was Goldie, then he hadn't a clue as to what to call her by.

Darren suddenly stopped and looked to Goldie and while remaining semi-aware of his surroundings gave her as much eye contact as he could and with a smirk that exuded confidence Darren inquired," 'ey Goldie, you seem to have me at a loss. Ye know my name but I didn't catch yours?"

His tone held a questioning ring to infer the statement was more of a question.

In reply to Josephine Hartley (msg # 209):

Wrinkling her nose in question, she wondered if the man had been hit so hard that he'd rattled something loose. She'd already introduced herself, first name AND last, and now he was asking her for her to identify herself...

"Are you ok?" she asked, somewhat concerned. He'd just been in a fight, and she wasn't sure if he was hurting more than he'd let on, "I'm Josephine, or Jo. I've already introduced myself to you..." she said, the worry in her tone obvious.

Darren blushed and looked away, as she said it he did in fact remember her saying so. Darren flashed a smile with noticably less confidence.

" Yeah, uhh that thing I did back there sometimes muddled my senses," Darren said, talking about his surge of power though he doubted it had been noticable, especially since she wasn't familiar with him yet.

" my appologies,Jo." Darren said turning to look about at the same time hide a little of his embarrassment.

Darren smiled widened as Jo turned it around for him. It was a sweet way of curbing his embarrassment. Upon her inquiry he looked about, again being somewhat vigilant, before looking back.

" Boston, born and raised, oh and Frederick sent me a telegram not too long ago and I came to help, heard this was where our friend was headin, found the wicked Witch instead!, Darren said, excitement in his eyes. " Frederick got me into this line of work, Darren explained showing off his blessed pair of silver plated brass knuckles.

While killing a person was wrong in Darren's mind, Killing monsters meant good people lived so what was the harm in enjoying a hunt?

Chapter 8.5

"Oh, alright... so Frederick is an old friend of yours... so you're from, well, now?" if he hadn't realized where they'd come from, he might not understand her question, but she was prodding for something, certainly.

"How, umm, does one get good at your particular brand of fighting? You seem to swing and swing and swing, and kind of just... out last your opponent. Is there anything else you use, like firearms?"

She couldn't deny he was effective, but being a human punching bag seemed unnecessarily cruel for him to do to himself, and she didn't want to see him get hurt, so she was hoping he had alternate solutions.
