Chapter 8.5

Darren looked at Jo not completely understanding, he currently lived in Boston but he was sure that wasn't what she meant. When talk of his fighting style he regained a smile and shrugged nonchalantly, " Seems to come naturally and I had to toughen my hide to raise my siblings. That and a couple cage fight on the side might 'a had somethin' to do with it."

Darren's eyes moved to his peacemaker before looking up to Jo again," I 'ave me a peach maker but not much else. I'm not fer killin' until I started huntin' monsters...only recently got me this piece from ol' Frederick."

Something in Jo's wording kept creeping on him but with his recent lapse of forgetfulness Darren wasn't sure it hadnt been just her mind being muddled from the adrenaline rush.

" Where'n ye hail from Goldie? " Darren asked intentionally using the nickname he had used earlier, a playful light in his emerald eyes.

Smiling, Josephine nodded,

"New York, hon. Been runnin' my momma's bar for a while with her there, till all o' this. Mostly good folk, but a bit tiresome sometimes." she shrugged,

"You drink much? I bet I could fix somethin' up to take the edge off of your pains, if you ever needed it of course." she was just making small talk, letting him inform her more about himself.

Chapter 8.5

Darren looked about his arms and assumed he had a bruises or two and he could feel the signs of facial damage, though minor. Hearing he promise of drink Darren nodded. I believe I'd find myself likin' that idea!", Darren said feeling this wasn't the place or time to speak of potential negatives but excited about enjoying a good time.

"A drink shared with a beautiful dame I hear is a remedy to any problem." Darren added flashing a smile.

Chapter 8.5

Raising her eyebrows, Josephine crossed her arms awkwardly, with the shotgun still in there, and looked him up and down,

"Are you always this straightforward, or did something jar your brain loose?" she pushed him, testing him to see how he acted under pressure, like she did any man that might be interesting to her. She struggled to hide her smile at his flashy grin, not wanting to let him know that he was 'winning' anything, just yet.

Chapter 8.5

Darren looked around as much to check his surroundings as to hide some blushing. He smirked as he was pushed and shrugged playfully.

" hmMmm, I'm no good at talkin' subtly so I figure I may as well say what I mean too...seems to work in a fight, why not words?", Darren said giving Jo another one over thoughtfully.

Chapter 8.5

As Darren stopped and looked around, and then her way once more, she stepped up to him, hearing his words about fighting, getting right in his personal space,

"Oh you think of this like a fight, do you?" she asked, breathing the words close to his face, having to tilt her head upwards to meet his gaze. Glancing over towards Lily, who had been tagging along, Josephine kept her gaze solid, though Lily could see her struggling not to smile. Still, she had to check Darren a little bit, see how he responded to it...

After an intense moment or two, she stepped away and walked down towards the basement further.

Chapter 8.5

As the long exchange happens Lily watches you two with a mixture of disbelief and frustration. She seems deeply concerned about Frederick, checking the bodies frantically.

Help me look! she gestures, moving from body to body quickly. And check upstairs! Frederick you idiot, what have you gotten into now? she mutters worriedly. The fool always had a heart of gold and two left feet. Leave it to him to get into trouble. Josephine, she turns to the woman, He has short bright red hair and usually doesn't have a beard. I haven't seen him in a few weeks though...How did you come to know him? Did he tell you to come here? she adds turning to Darren.

Simon: Lily informs you she'll join you as soon as she can and bids you be careful on your way back. As you travel back towards the doctor's you notice the streets are full of police, no doubt searching for Lily. This town is becoming quite a hot spot...By now the sun is starting to set and twilight is fast approaching.
ooc: Ezri will be joining you soon I'm thinking. Anything in particular you want to do while you watch over Victoria?

Simon will walk as if he has somewhere to go and not in a suspicious way. Once at Victoria he will spend his time in prayer for her. He keeps her healing as the paramount of his prayers. He really has nothing else he needs to do.

Chapter 8.5

"We've already both searched, Lily... we were heading downstairs, to see if there was something in a basement, or somewhere down low... spirits or anything could be related." Josephine said, "The witch here was a demon, or witch, or something, we figured she'd have stored him somewhere easy to hide, that nobody could hear him call for help, like underground." she shrugged, indicating how much they were guessing.

Chapter 8.5

The youthful red head didnt back down or flinch but something in his eyes betrayed conflict. Darren turned to look at Lilly as Jo had and when Goldie stepped away Darren breathed deep having not noticed his breath was held.

As Darren collected himself he recalled some things about the creature and what he had read. Darren went back to look at the bodies to see of he could notice something.

"It was a ghoul and I'm not sure it did all this itself, tha killin I mean.", Darren said noticing something subtly off as he tried to reign in personal thoughts, a mans life was on the line.

"if'n it had help though, a basement may still be a good place to check or maybe a ghoul hunting ground, a gave yard." Darren was guessing as he looked more closely at the bodies, unsure if he'd gather any info.

Chapter 8.5

Darren/Jo: Lily listens, nodding with a frown. Yes, I think it was a ghoul too. Probably attracted by whatever killed these poor people. If Frederick isn't here though I wonder where he is...If he survived we should have heard something and if he died he'd be here. Unless they took him for some reason her frown deepens. Looking at the bodies I think their necks were broken. Seems like a demon move to me. We need to question the neighborhood. See if anyone didn't notice anything. Last thing we need though is for someone to find the bodies. I've already got enough policemen on my back as it is she looks down at her nun's habit again with a face. I'd suggest we split up but you two seem...curious about each other she arches a dark eyebrow. And honestly Jo, good with words as you are if something happens you're a pretty rotten shot. You think you can keep him in line if I take the back street? She turns to Darren then. And you, keep her safe. I don't know you but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. If you prove untrustworthy I will reach in your gut and pull out your liver myself. It's not the first time I've done it today. Her hard green eyes glint aggressively and for some reason the hair on the back of your neck stands up.

Chapter 8.5

"That's why I have this, hon!" Josephine said happily, a silly grin on her face as she held up her slightly-too-heavy shotgun.

Still, Lily had made some requests, and Josephine furrowed her brow,

"I don't know if I like letting you go off alone while the police are lookin' for ya." she paused suddenly, in surprise, as Lily detailed excruciatingly to Darren what she'd be doing to his innards if he messed up, and she stepped back, raising an eyebrow with the hints of a smile on her face.

"Oh I think I'll be fine, but you mighta just scared him off..." she laughed watching Darren get checked a second time in a matter of seconds by not one, but two women.

Chapter 8.5

Darren was listening intently as he stood up. The day was surreal and quickly he was happy to be paired wit Jo for more reason than just his not being good with words. The youthful redhead turn about to state just that when Lily approached and then came out with the threat/demand well before Darren could annouciate a syllable.

The youth nodded looking to Jo with a faint smile, emerald eyes seemingly pleading. Despite her physical appearance, this Lily sure had a presence and quite a palette for threats.

" Needn't worry ma'am, I'll defend her like she were kin," Darren said having started meekly but after a throat clear brought back his stoic bravado.

" Also, while my life's been threaten before, yers was the most colourful," the youth added, sounding like a compliment.

Chapter 8.5

Lily listens to Darren with a calculating look, green eyes piercing into him as if reading his very soul. At last she gives a satisfied nod. Alright. I think you'll do. she turns to Jo then. And I've seen you with that shotgun. You're definitely better with it but still...just try not to fill him full of holes eh? Unless he needs it of course she adds with a sudden brilliant grin. It's amazing how she went from intimidating to suddenly cheery but Jo of course knows Lily's ways well. And don't worry about me. I've got this on remember? she looks down at the nun's habit again with a laugh. We'll see just how useful this is...

ooc: Ok, go ahead and roll your gather information checks please. By now it's getting dark but it should still be early enough you can canvas the area without worry of bothering people too much.

Simon, I'm thinking one more round should do it and then I'll put Ezri with ya. Just trying to make the timing line up.

Chapter 8.5

Laughing at Lily's attitude shift, Josephine shrugged cutely, and waggled a finger,

"You as a nun are much more dangerous than you might think... behave yourself... or at least include me when you have all the fun!" she laughed again.

"And holes, by definition, are not filled darling. When I fill him full of LEAD, I'll remind you that you didn't warn me about THAT!" she teased, pushing the nun a little bit on the shoulder.

With that finished, she wandered the neighborhood canvassing for information, but she was obviously distracted as all hell, so she hardly paid attention.

Chapter 8.5

Darren fought not to waver under Lillian'S scrutiny. Once she shifted emotional stateS the youth let out a sigh of relief, that is, until talk of holes and lead. Unsure how to respond Darren flashed what he thought was his best grin.

When Jo left, he followed and while they talked to the neighbors he noticed the distraction but for Fredrick's sake he tried his best to be social and despite his obvious awkwardly ways, the red head managed.

lol your worst possible roll is almost as good as my nearly best for gather info. rolled a 25, with a (16) as my roll.

Also u feel you are awesome as well and I'm still new x3

The /s means I was being sarcastic. I rolled a natural 1, as usual, on my skill check. Not very amazing at all really, lol. You can make yourself so good you have a +16 modifier,
and then roll so low normally that you come across as "eh, she's hit or miss at this gathering information stuff", lol. Ruins a character's concept, but there's nothing you can do about it really.

Chapter 8.5

Lily laughs at Jo's joke and luckily for Darren she seems quite happy and good-natured at the moment.

The canvassing goes surprisingly well. It would seem that the close proximity of the houses on this street has done you favors. After quite a bit of charming the locals you discover the neighbors have been most unhappy with the noise at the inn until recently. Apparently there were lots of thumps and bangs and taking into account the hour it happened they were none too pleased to be woken. Considering how quiet it got after that though they thought little of it.

There was a woman though, they noted, who was seen frequently entering the place. It was full of strangers of course, it was an inn, but there was something particularly noteworthy about this woman. She had raven black hair, worn long and loose, which of course was very out of fashion. She was the most beautiful woman any of them had seen, with pale white skin and a black gown that revealed more than they thought proper. Apparently her gaze was...unsettling and each person who mentions her shudders at the memory. One person is sure they saw her leave the place the night the thumps were heard, at an ungodly hour too.

Simon: The doctor, grateful for your assistance, offers you a room at his clinic to stay the night while you wait for your friends return. You also get a message from Lily sent via errand boy, that she and Josephine will be delayed with questioning so at the moment you do not fear for them even though the hour is getting later.

You find yourself laying on your bed, exhausted by the day's happenings and waiting for Lily and Jo's return. It is hard not to fall asleep...

ooc: Ok Ezri, feel free to make your entrance if and when you are ready :)

Chapter 8.5

Hands thrown on her hips dangerously (to anybody who knows her), Josephine frowned,

"Well that didn't help any. We already knew that an evil looking woman was here, with noises, and unnatural this and thats going on. All we know now is that she LEFT." she threw her hands into the air, frustrated.

Leaning against the wall, she brought her hands to her face, and after an unsatisfied sigh, brushed her hair out of her face, and spoke again,

"We're not making any headway, and Frederick is clearly in trouble. I don't really know what to do." she relented, looking up at her companion's eyes.
