The Lore of Ancerenth

After some consideration and my meandering with writing things down about the setting of this campaign I've thought it best to make a thread which discusses some of the more common elements of Ancerenth's lore.

So here we can talk about the lore of the world.  So ask any questions about the world that you might like, some I won't be able to answer directly but I'll provide the best common knowledge available.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

Okay let me be the first to ask.

Can you provide us with the legends of Appirga.
I like the sources that the idea came from, but would like to know more.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

I would like to ask about the appearance of other races, if I may.  I have ideas in my head, but I am unsure whether or not I am right:

Deseekay:
(based on Drex's description)
Grey-white. Blue eyes Manes and beards. Goldish Horns.  Traditional Scottish attire + additional accessories.

Somthing like this may be with horns:
http://media.wizards.com/image...0x1600_Wallpaper.jpg

The description is 'stout' so I am guess they are, generally, smaller but broader of the 'medium' races?  Their originate from the spirit world.  Is there any evidence of this?  Do they have an ethereal quality about them perhaps?  Or a kind of thin, otherworldly mist around them.

Doola Tywuar:
I am thinking Dragonborn from PHB.

Ehuron:
A fairy constructs?  I find them one of the more confusing sophonts (out of 3), as there seems to be a great many possibilities for their appearance.  Do they have some unifying appearance, or are they extremely varied?
(based on lambent's description)
Magically shifting clothing designs.  Smooth, polished crystal, humanoid.  Apparently made from a quicksilver-like substance. Blue and featureless, most notable with the absence of a mouth.
Something along the lines of a Shardmind?

Human:
Pretty sure I know what a human looks like, unless they have some other distinguishing feature in this world (tattoos or something).

Kaetyma:
Something like this, though with plumage (based on Iron Jubei's description):

Musadi:
I am thinking Naga from Warcraft 3 / D&D Salamanders without the fire:
http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H...2509155&pid=15.1

Narayah:
Like an ewok with a big tail...Sir Didymus from Labyrinth?
http://www.propstore.com/conte...on/sird/PDVD_009.jpg

Ulh:
Second of the 3 most confusing sophonts for me.  'High Men'.  What does that mean?  Are they mountain men and somewhat barbaric?  Their stat options seem to support this, but their mechanics and powers not so much.  Perhaps they are like highborn?  Elevated above a normal man in their nobility - like high elves?
http://static.giantbomb.com/up...er_highelves_015.jpg

Umbrean:
A mostly humanoid slime.  Aka Willa.  Though orange may be an unusual colour.  So I guess clear/blue is more common?
This is the best picture I could find of what I imagine one to look like (though clothed ofc and without a belly-button.  Why would they have belly-buttons? O.o)
http://th01.deviantart.net/fs7...uke_fuji-d6msf7b.png

Weaver:
The other more confusing creature-type.  I imagine a bug-like entity with many legs.  But would that be spider-like, centipede-like, beetle-like, woodlouse-like, or caterpillar-like.
Koh, maybe:

Wow some of these pictures aren't bad representations of the races, especially the Doola Tywuar, Kaetyma and Musadi. That is how I imagined them.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

That's pretty close for a visual on the Narayah from what I can tell. Also that picture is utterly adorable. Think that with a big raccoon-like striped tail.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

The tiger guy you linked for the Deseekay is actually closer to what the Ulh look like. From what I know they are big felines that will gladly mindrape you if you give them even the faintest reason to do so.

The Deseekay are closer to horses in appearance I believe, some sort of "crystal unicorns"... unless of course I recall them totally wrong :|

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

@Willa:  Wow!  Quiet some digging you did there Willa!  I actually had some pictures commissioned of the races over the last year.  I'm currently saving up money to have more commissions done, and/or have better versions made of existing pictures.

You can find the images in the WIP Sophonts PDF, https://www.dropbox.com/s/5lhu...jb/Sophonts.pdf?dl=0

Or use these image links for the races I have so far;

Ehuron

Musadi

Weavers

I only have an approximation for the Deseekay atm;

Deseekay
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qe6d...0ChillChell.png?dl=0
Yes they are intended to be horse-like in appearance.

Doola Tywuar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0d8q...yrannozilla.jpg?dl=0

As for the Archetypes (i.e. fairy, highmen and such) come from here;
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveRaces
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmw...in/FantasyAxisOfEvil

The Archetypes are the result of a IRL friend telling me that people are so attached to the "standard fantasy setting" that is difficult for most folks to play something as unusual as pretty much my entire retinue of Ancerenth's races.  Each of which I originally designed to be very different from each other and from common fantasy fair.  But to accommodate the "standard" lovers I went and looked up the archetypes of each and adapted the feel of each race to fit with better with the archetype both in stats and in lore.

As a note on Umbreans, their common color is actually a semi-transparent black and their forms are largely voluntary but also a product of their unique minds.  Some Umbreans are little more then animals and as such take the form of animals, others are like Willa intelligent enough to be considered Sapient.

Ehuron are mostly metallic constructs, though different regions of the Ehuron Federation have different styles of "walkabouts" as these constructs are called by them in common.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

The Alchemist's Folly

It was the height of the isleborns war against the deathly armies of the great Lich
Phazion who sought to swallow up our world with power of his terrible spire, which
fell from the heavens little more then before he made his final assault upon the
capitol of the Great Kingdom of the Crystal Isles.

Little did the terrible Lich realize that the Grand Alchemists had committed themselves
to the creation of a Gatestone.  An artefact that the sages of previous ages had believed
would grant it's wielder power to rival that of even the gods.

Yet the Alchemists had been loath to create such a stone for they feared
that the divine would not look too kindly upon such powermongering.
To their end, desperation won out fear and as the island struggled against
the siege they performed their rituals.

Above their island darkness and light roiled like a thunderhead as their art
spun time about the temple of alchemy at the summit of the lone mountain
of the island.  Aligning the powers of the many worlds towards the Alchemist's
purpose.

In a flash of infinity the Alchemists then achieved their goal and had forged
a Gatestone.  Yet their triumph was short lived for they were but mortals
and in their exhaustion they let slip their masteries of the elements and
stone that they had created was corrupted by their wills.

The power of the stone shot out and unmade the Lich Phazion and broke
down his spire and casting it into the sea.  Leaving the Lich's armies
leaderless and without direction.  The isleborn celebrated, they
believed the worst was behind them.  This was not to be.

For the Gatestone, poisoned by the Alchemists own thoughts sought to transform the world.
To align it to the Alchemists desires and visions.  The Grand Master of the Waters
realizing what was transpiring was horrified and swiftly moved to action.  A thing that
saved the world yet doomed herself and Appirga.

She broke the Gatestone.  A thing only possible due to the corruption of mortality upon
a thing born of divinity.  And in doing so brought forth divine judgment upon the Alchemists.
In an instant every living thing perished.  All that was whole was rendered unto
ruin and eternal torment.  A punishment for an act of hubris against both the
world, the elements and the divine.  Was laid upon the isle of Appirga
and all those who dwelt there until the end of time.

Re: The Lore of Ancerenth

The Alchemist's Folly is a scholastic version of the legend of the Fall of Appirga the condensed version of which was recently mentioned in Chapter 1 of the Campaign.  Most commonly known to the scholars or learned individuals of the Crystal Isles.
