1st Interlude

*Knock**Knock* "Did you called?" A young Doola Tywuar open the door a little as after knocking on it. She looked normal, if you didn't count on the blue tone of her scales and the hard look on her eyes, over the right one she had a long scar that looked like it had hurt a long time ago. She was wearing a white tunic held with a maroon sash on her hip, her arms, legs and shoulders sported simple leather protections. Her feet where bare, save for a few straps.
Her eyes rested briefly on every occupant on the room almost evaluating the situation before putting a fist on her hip as she waited for Akkorrin to elaborate on what he wanted.

1st Interlude

As usual when there was a potential friend to be made, Willa was the first to react.   Gliding over to the Doola Tywuar with a speed faster than her movements implied, she came to a sliding stop a little in front of the blue scaled one.

The umbrean's yellow-orange goo glistened in the light as she clasped her hands behind her back and leant forward with a big grin on her face.  Looking up, her head inclined inquisitively she blurted out:

"Willa is!  Be friends?"

The oozeling was strange, both for being an gelatinous creature but also in opposition to it.  She was unusually coloured for an umbrean, with a sparkling newness to her golden sheen.  Much like that of a snake which had recently shed its skin.  Her form was also atypical, being strikingly human-esque.  Or, more accurately, child-esque.  Chubby features, large head and wide wondrous eyes cut a disarmingly cute visage.

Though her clothing and equipment was dingy and brown, its cobbled together appearance only emphasised the creature's cuteness, making her look more like a toddler trying on mother's wardrobe rather than any serious adventurer.  Mismatched pieces of leather had been crudely strung together to form some sort of make-shift armour and an old cut-down workman's apron hung off of her back like a cape.  The backpack she carried, as well as the many odd adornments hanging from it, looked equally out of place.

Not everything appeared second-rate however.

Looking more like a candle than a useful implement, a nobbled rod hung from Willa's oversized belt.  However, it was only when you weren't looking at it that it truly caught your eye.  The unsettling object seemed to writhe and pulsate when you weren't paying attention to it, stop as soon as you did and then move again as soon as you turned away. Almost like it was playing with you.

Moving on, atop Willa's head was a helmet that seemed very out of place among her other trappings.  Made from big, bulky metal it looked more appropriate for a knight than someone so small.  It had a retractable visor that was currently lifted up and away from Willa's face.  However, from your elevated position, you could see that the guard was crafted into the semblance of an evil, fanged skull.  Quite a contrast to the blob-girl's apparent cuteness.  The forehead was crowned with seven small gems that glowed eerily, like the eyes of a spider lurking in the shadows.

Perhaps, strangest of all, were the delicate white gloves the little one wore on her hands.  Not the sort of item you would expect to see on an ooze, whose slime might be corrosive.  Indeed, though they looked quite new, there was already signs of the expensive material thinning.

1st Interlude

At first the sudden approach of the umbrean didn't phase her one bit. But then she did a double take as she caught sight of her 'attire'. She almost could feel it, this umbrean wanted to intimidate her, but she was better than that. Keeping her face stoic she let the umbrean approach, she almost allowed herself a smile as she pictured the change this was going to have she was going to...

"Willa is!  Be friends?"

THAT made one of her lizard like brows rise and actually made her rise her arms. She had been caught off guard. Now she was in a bind. With all this she HAD to make a god comeback. Placing all the energy she could on her brain let it work with all the experience she had earned from her days on the street she arrived at the most brilliant and breath taking idea, and idea that made her want to pat herself on her back.

"Oh.."

Only to start feeling like she had just placed her foot on her mouth. 'I most do something!!' Now that her brain had failed her she turned to the next best thing she had at the moment; her instinct.

"... sure. I am Keela." And gave her a small smile, while she kicked herself mentally.

Re: 1st Interlude

Akkorrin was seated along with several other figures at one of the large circular tables in the guild's common room.  Which lay at the end of the long hallway that began at the half open front doors of the warehouse which housed the guild.  The taskmaster waved a flagon in a calling gesture towards Keela which seemed to look more like he was trying to take a drink from it only was missing by about half an arms length.
His half-lidded, bloodshot eyes met Keela's as he waited for her to approach.  As she did he said "These are the adventurers I had told you about the other day.  I think you would be a perfect-" the taskmaster suppressed a belch badly "-fit." then gulped down the rest of his flagon's contents.

Re: 1st Interlude

If the large, bulky figure of the draconic paladin was somehow displeased by the guild master's sloppy behaviour, he did not show it. He remained stone faced for the most part, allowing himself a smile however as he regarded Keela.
His thick front-legs bend low for a few seconds, allowing him to do something that could be considered a facsimile of a bow that the two legs would do.
"It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Iron Jubei.", the kaetyma introduced himself as he straightened up again, then briefly regarded the suit of stone-like armor he was wearing seemingly all the time to make sure it was all still in place. Satisfied he gave a nod and turned his attention to the others again.

Willa grins shyly at Keela's response and takes a few steps back, with a squeeky, "yay," as she gives the others a chance to say hello to their new companion.

Whilst events unfold around her, she takes a look around at the adventurer's guild with new found wonder.  Never did she expect to find a place within the city that would be so accepting of umbreans.  She has made so many friends here already and only had a few dozen items thrown at her.

Re: 1st Interlude

The approach of the draconic paladin helped t relieve some of the tension she had felt with Willa. His greet was short and straight to the point, it made her feel this wasn't going to be a bad experience. "Nice to meet you. Just call me Keela... excuse me." She mumbled the last part before letting an exasperated puff of air out of her mouth.

She couldn't take it anymore. With a firm stride she made her way to the guild master, placed a hand on top of the flagon and pushed it down to the table. "Its enough Chief. " She told him in a firm voice before going for a seat.

Re: 1st Interlude

As Keela did this, she felt the presence of someone else's gaze on her. And spotted the ice blue eyes of the silvery-white coloured Deseeky looking at her, a smile of amusement on his face. His five horns has a gold sheen in the light of guild common room. Not moving from his comfortable position, he folds his arms against his bare muscular chest and leans slightly back in his chair. It would seem he is waiting for the event that was just initiated by Keela to come to its logical conclusion... His expression changed in a slept second, this is not the time or place for complacency or for Keela and Akkorin to have a argument, he thought.

Standing up he bows low, "I am Drasden Braskaal Anoer, Chosen Sword of the Aurelian Pantheon, Follower of The Teacher, but you may call me Drex." Drex is dressed in a red clock and kilt with gold and green highlights at the edges.

He takes his seat ones more and as he does he moves the flagon back to its original position, in one clean motion.

Re: 1st Interlude

Jubei gave a nod to the Guild Master, while smirking a little that the doola was 'disciplined' by the Keela. Then he cleared his throat and assumed a slightly more formal position. "Hmm, yes.", he started and looked at each of his companions. "Our visit to the... Conduit.. prompted me to visit the royal court. I was allowed to consult one of the scholars who studied the Dragon's Ode, though it only gave me more questions than answers, luckily however I was told where I could find more answers. The dragon weyr in the Silver Mountains, that has the very memorable name Ekotlteatltelan.", Jubei paused again to untangle his tongue after that. Common and Draconic doesn't mix that well after all. "The weyr is in very good condition, apparently the Narayan Automata, which no doubt would interest you Phelan, are still active and maintaining the place... and protecting it from intruders. A Narayan expidition is heading there currently, and I would like to ask if you, all of you and not just Phelan, would like to accompany me there?. It would be about a week of travel by foot, unless we want to spend the gold to find a captain daring enough to sail past... that-one-place-that-should-go-unnamed."

"Well I'm in. This dragon weyr could also hold information on Amare and his kin." If that is possible Akkorrin."

"What Dragon where? Why Iron Jubei go there?  Also - pfft!  Wizards at school always grumpy.  Always shouting at Willa.  No fun.  But good books!  Also, good foods.  Good foods only good thing about grumpy wizards.  Gods be too.  Where Willa met Oracle to make friends with.  Maybe Oracle go to eat there also?  What Echolocation?  Lots of Narayans be?  Willa want meet more friends like Mr Phelan, sir!"

Re: 1st Interlude

All that was making her head spin; Narayan auto what? dragons weyr?. Just what she needed to start knowing the world... some of it sounded boring but the opportunity to experience such things was tugging at her to just let go and go there. 'Should thank the guild master... or not. It will just prompt him to get full of himself and drink more.'

She was about to answer when she was cut off by Willa. 'Whats going on?' for her it wasn't that rare to talk to people, but being even more short on her knowledge of some things stuck her as weird... And what was she?

"ahh, you forgot they also make fancy tricks." '...in a way' She then turned to Jubei. "I don't mind going. I wanted to look beyond this cities walls. Besides a week of travel doesn't sound that bad..." She was hopping she was making ok for her first guild reunion.

Re: 1st Interlude

Drex calmly nodes at Akkorrin's suggestion, if there is enough time he will go to the Arcane University and see if he can gain access to the records of Kendal and the Dread Born War.

Drex's attention was drawn back to the now with the sudden vociferation from Willa and Keela. Drex knew from past experiences that the mages are "grumpy". So if he could convince Phelan to accompany him there, it might be easier to get something out of them. "Maybe if I told them that we are going to the Dragon weyr or offer to do them a favor they will let me have a look at the records..."

Drex will make his attentions known as soon as things calm down.

Jubei smiled rather sincerily as he nodded. "Yes, Amare indeed wanted to see it as well, if I'm not mistaken?", the kaetyma spoke and looked over to their new companion. "Well, either way... I suppose I should arrange for some means of transportation then, while you are going to the University?", Jubei suggested. "Just to make it clear, we are taking the land route, yes?"

Willa piped up, eagerly wanting to add her own input to the conversation:

"Boat sounds fun!  But Willa not think to find Kyssea umbreans news on boats.  Not find news in city also.  So maybe finds on road?  Go boat on way back, maybe?"

Finding the Umbreans from Kyssea had become more than a passing whim.  It was now more of a personal quest for her.  The Spawning Pool had been the first she'd ever encountered and the umbrean spirit was the first of her kind that she had gotten to properly speak to.  It had helped her when her body burned, cracked and yellowed and she wanted to help them return home, if she could.

Re: 1st Interlude

Akkorrin only seemed to be paying half a mind's attention to your conversation, his gaze was caught somewhere in the middle distance to the hearth beside which a rust colored musadi was curled around a table carefully paging through an old book upon it.  The whole thing looked rather comical given the sheer difference in size between the musadi and the book.  He was even wearing goggles of some sort which seemed to be able to adjust their focus as the musadi would fiddle with them from time to time.
"Should anything happen that you need to know about I'll send you a message by means of the badges.  All I have to add to that is don't get yourselves killed and don't loose those badges." Akkorrin said as he got up from the table "Good luck." he said over his shoulder as he left the common room.

[I'll close this thread in a while so if you have one last thing to say do so now.  I'll post the last part of the interlude tomorrow and the new chapter start as well.]

1st Interlude

While the adventurers prepared for their journey to Tolyn, grabbing a Potion of Healing for each of them from Mustavoloneus the musadi wished them success on their adventure, Drex and Amare traveled to the Arcane University to satisfy Drex’s instant curiosity.
On the way to the floating academic institution Amare wondered if Drex believed his memories of Kendal’s life were incomplete.  To which Drex only responded that knowing everything about Kendal and Amare’s kin may help explain what was going on with Amare and where his kin were to be found.  Amare believed it unlikely that Kendal’s memories were incomplete and he expressed his amusement at the peculiarity of both memories and the nature of time within the material universe.
Which prompted Drex to ask if Amare could explain exactly where he was from, it took Amare a long time to answer, as they spent much of the journey in silence as the man seemed to be deep in thought about what to say.
Eventually, just shy of the ferries which flew from inner city to the Stones - the ring of earthbergs which floated at various heights above the flower-like citadel of Galdion - Amare spoke up and answered Drex’s question.
”It is much alike to what you would call home, it is less a place and more a state of being, you might call it the fountainhead of all souls but that would be an incomplete description.  There is nothing in my experience of this world which adequately describes it but fellowship touches upon the surface of it and love reaches a little into it.” his answer left Drex’s more perplexed than anything else.
The university was of little help to Drex, though almost everyone there recognized Amare as the near perfect image of the wizard Kendal a resemblance he passed off as coincidence, he did ask Drex not to disturb people with the truth of his nature or origins. When a wizard wondered about the blackness and the red iris of Amare’s eyes he answered that it was a birthmark of sorts.
Little documentation existed about either the Dreadborn War or Kendal’s life and the historians they asked said they were still working out exactly what had happened during that time as well.  The end of the war itself was a particular mystery with little facts and a great deal of myth to it and Kendal had died not more than twenty years thereafter, an old man at forty four years old.
Amare’s kin were a complete mystery to the librarians as they had never heard of the three names Drex gave outside of being typical parts of arcadian names.  When Drex asked Amare about this he only said that is what they were called in essence if not by the letter of the word.  Without any more information about Amare’s kin the search was also a dead end.  So when Drex and Amare rejoined their companions at the guild later Drex was not particularly pleased though Amare seemed to perfectly happy about the adventurers venturing out of the city after almost a week within it.

End of the first Interlude
