I don’t currently know any. Warmages are limited in the spells they know. I am still surviving and doing my duty. It has just been extremely uncomfortable in ways the warrior in me is not used to being.

Resist Elements is probably the Spell she needs. Some way to endure heat.

Re: In the Land of Zu

Dany considered their options even while she waited to Khuno's answer about magic. Although she was pretty sure what the answer would be since they hadn't seen any evidence of magic yet, she'd already decided what their course of action would need to be. They had very few resources here, so far away from home, so, for what they wanted to do, they'd need a base. Coslok would be fine for a staging area, but it would probably make it harder to do their planning and watch their backs at the same time. In that sense, Khuno's answer really wouldn't matter.

"We'll make for Manarwen," she informed the others. "We need a base from which to plan. If we play our cards right, we might even make allies."

"I'm thinking that Coslok will be a major playing piece in our game, though. We can work out the details once we reach Manarwen."

"Yes, we have magic," finally replied after listening to the conversations for a minute. "It is not big magic, such as the wings and your thundersticks. It is small, helpful, everyday magic."

"I noticed, Ioelenna, that you seemed to be in a bit of distress once the sun came up and it got hot. Once we reach Manarwen, I will take you to an herbalist and get you some coolveo. It's an extract of several plants that keep you cool even when it gets very hot out. It doesn't stop you from getting burnt if you stick your hand in a fire, though."

Tealon wanted to find the answers, the answers to the power source, answers to the application of making these items smaller whilst still powerful, and a need to make a device, a schematic, an etched plate, that would get him high in the sky quickly so he can take flight safely and slow his fall so if the wings failed, he would be safe.

Re: In the Land of Zu

It only takes a few hours to reach Manarwen by boat.

It looks a lot like the other towns and villages they saw along the way. About half the town is spread out along the shore, only two-three buildings deep, with lots of docks and wharves and many boats, none of which qualify as a 'ship'. Nearly all boats are in at this time of day, having all returned with the day's catch.

The appearance of the ship catches everyone's attention, and word soon spreads so that by the time the ship reaches a dock that has been conveniently cleared of boats, the nearby docks, wharves and even rooftops are cluttered with people.

The second half of the town is comprised of buildings perched on the hillside. And you can see people on those rooftops as well.

It's not like the arrival of the ship was ever expected to be secret.

Re: In the Land of Zu

Danyka tried to keep busy while the Resolute was en route to the coastal town of Manarwen.  She made sure that Tealon was busy tinkering and asked Ioelenna to take inventory of what might pass as trading goods or a potential gift to the Manarwenites.  Pacing the deck of the ship, the Llaelese gun mage had always considered herself to be reasonably even-keeled, but she definitely felt out of her depth here.  And people were looking to her for leadership and answers.

That thought brought a tight, forced smiled to her lips.  The vagaries of Fate were indeed fickle.  When the Cygnarian authorities had caught her at border while trying to make her way to Corvis, the Rynnish brunette was in danger of being hanged for treason.  And before that, all she'd really ever aspired to was being a simple handmaiden to one of the many minor aristocratic houses in Llael.  You know, marry your childhood sweetheart, and settle down.  That had been a lifetime ago. she thought ruefully, even if only less than a calendar year had actually passed.  The knuckles on her hands whitened as they tightly gripped the deck railing, as she stared out across the vast ocean.  Her jaw quivered with frustrated anger and deep, abiding regret for a moment.

Then the moment passed as quickly as it had come.  Dany shook her head sharply, as if to dispel the cobwebs that threatened to mire her thoughts and dull her senses.

She needed to find the local priestess; Danyka had to find out everything that she could about the people that they were about to make contact.  And their only source of knowledge on that topic would be Khuno Manco.  Ideally, they would have an extensive dossier onthe geographic, cultural, social, economic, and political layouts of the society they were going to engage with.  But, they didn't have that.  And time was against them.  Still, any information was better than nothing (which was the point that she was starting at).  The young Llaelese gentlewoman wanted to make sure that she got a basic primer from Khuno on the cultural and social mores in village (a traditional greeting would be even better) and the surrouding area, as best she could.  It wouldn't due to inadvertently insult, anger, terrorize, or frustrate the other side, if it could be avoided.

As the ship approached the harbor, Dany made sure that she was on deck and easily visible to the approaching village.  There was no hiding the Resolute, and it made no sense to hide their presence either.  And for better or worse, the Rynnish brunette had been elected as the 'face' of the group.  Standing regally at the prow, until the ship pulled into the dock, Danyka made sure that she didn't disembark until the village had been given enough time to organize whatever greeting they intended.  For her part, she intended to 'formally' ask for permission to treat with them.

Which, of course, required someone to actually ask permission of ...

[OOC:  Dany has Gather Information at +5 and Diplomacy at +10, her Spot/Listen are at +7/+8.  Not sure if a rolls are necessary (or if 'Take 10', is possible), but I will do so if they are in order at this point; to find out all she can about Manarwen and its people before disembarking from the Resolute.]

Hearing that the Resolutewas about to ock, Tealon quickly found Danyka and handed her the Translation Disk again Just in case you need it.  He then did as he usually did, waited in case he needed to cast invisibility and then make a move.

Should he be called on to be present, he knew that Danyka would call on him with a look, so kept he within eye shot, repeating crossbow close by but not readied.  He didn't want to cause problems before they arose.

The people here weren't expecting such a prestigious visitor, and there is no great celebration or party planned. In fact, it takes awhile for the town's leader to be summoned, get dressed, and come down to the docks.

"Greetings, Travelers From Across The Sea!" the man says. He's about 6 feet tall, probably weighs over 200 pounds, has wavy brown hair and a beard. "I am Karnu Valdinus. Welcome to Manarwen!"

Tealon watched the faces of those on the dock almost panicking, they weren't as prepared or organised as the people of Rish. He quickly went below deck, put his things on the wagon, took a quick inventory, hid the steam guns and wings, then came back up on deck. These people didn't need to know about the capabilities of the crew.

Tealon the watched as he did at Rish, trying to descern what was going on.

Re: In the Land of Zu

Tealon perceives the Manarwenites as being just what they appear to be... friendly, open, receptive... excited to be visited by the ship... eager for news, communications, information, exciting tales. They don't seem to have a clue, however, of just what the ship is capable of. There seems to be some thought that they think your ship is the other one, of which they've heard tales.

With a slight tilt of the head towards Tealon, Danyka nodded curtly to nodded, casually accepting the translation disk from him.  A soft, "Thank you" emanated from her lips, the rich timbre of contralto hanging in the air for a moment to show her appreciation at the gesture.  Her eyes never wavered from the shore, however, as she continue to watch the gathering crowd.

She was obviously, trying to make her own assessment of the situation, but the Rynnish gunmage appreciated her companion's input.  The people seemed genuine enough.  It was almost disarming.

As they were hailed by Karnu, Dany made her way to the gangplank to engage the Manarwen leader more directly.  She removed the leather gloves from her hands, tucking them into her belt.  With a simple gesture, Danyka motioned to the other Iron Fisters to follow.  And then as she walked down towards the dock, the young Llaelese gentlewoman held her hands out in the open first and then placed them palms together in greeting.  "Thank you, Karnu Valdinus." she noted, almost taken aback by the large man's presence, "I am Danyka Ydrasyl.  We bring greetings from Across the Great Sea.  May we treat with you and your people?"  It wasn't the best of greetings, she noted to herself ruefully.

Re: In the Land of Zu

"I am quite pleased to meet you, Danyka Ydrasyl. And you, Ioelenna Winterspire. And you, Tealon Holdron."

"We would be honored to treat with you,"
Karnu replies to Danyka, "but I doubt if our humble community has anything that would interest you."

"Your amazing ship is far better than anything we know how to build."

"Come, though. We shall have a meeting over a meal and discuss these issues."

You do notice that he looks at the other crew still on the ship with a bit of curiosity mixed with suspicion if not outright trepidation.

He leads you along the dock and up a slight hill to a large building. Once you enter, you realize it is a meeting hall of some sort. People have run ahead and are now setting up tables and chairs in the meeting hall. They are arranging the tables in a circle.

You also see that there is a kitchen area in the back of the hall, so apparently it is used for banquets.

You entered the building from the side... large double doors that can be swung completely open to let people enter and exit as needed. While Karnu talks to you about his town, which, like all the ones you've seen, is built on a narrow shore and then climbs up the rocky hillsides, others are opening the windows on the front. These are some sort of shutters that slide aside to reveal a spectacular view over the harbor.

There are cushioned benches under the windows, and Karnu leads you to them, indicating you should sit while the preparations are being made. Within minutes, several men and women show up and being working in the kitchen.

With the front windows and several side windows open, there is a nice cross breeze. And once the fire in the hearth is started, the updraft further pulls the breezes inside.

As you were walking up the building, many of the local people were asking questions, which Khuno had to answer as she was the only one that spoke the language. She relays the questions and her answers to the rest of them. In return, she enquired about an herbalist.

"Your marvelous inventions are quite intriguing. We do not have that much metal in the whole land. The place you come from must be astounding," Karnu comments.

Tealon doesn't spot any spy holes and such, though it would be easy enough to listen at any of the doors or windows, even if they were closed.

He does notice as well that the construction appears to all be mortise and tenon construction with pin locking. This would be consistent with Karnu's statement that metal is scarce--what metal they have would be used for tools and weapons and not wasted on nails and fasteners.
