Yep., it was supposed to be, but my brain-wires got crossed between the post before it and my fingers typing on the keyboard.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

By now, I've got a long list of things that interfere with my posting. The top of the list is Old Age. If I wake up too early, I'm tired all day long. If not, then I seem to get tired far too early in the afternoon/evening.

When I'm tired, the brain is also tired, and when it's tired, I get in this mental state where I'm not able to process posts easily. So, I don't check the board because I know I can't post (except for 'yes', 'no', 'maybe' answers, which are seldom required).

And, if I did read the post, and the brain goes into meltdown, then it now shows up on the board as no new posts... and I forget to get back to it.

Then, of course, there's the usual Real Life stuff that ambushes me from time to time... chores, errands, sleep, ftf gaming, helping friends and neighbors, etc.

The best way to help is just to keep posting and remind me now and then. Like now. I nearly always check PMs within a day (just in case someone wants to send me money... :-) ).

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

We've been using a 'floating timeline'... because it takes so long to run a single mission (as opposed to a single 1 hour episode on TV), we use the current Real Time year but float the series into that timeframe. So, it's probably the start of Season 3 now as far as what the SGC has accomplished. But even that is a bit fast and loose because it's hard to sift out what we know as opposed to what we would only know.

Web-Series produced by MGM.  Ten 10-minute episodes = 1 "season".  These were later edited together into a feature length "Feature Cut" in 4K Ultra HD-- titled Stargate Origins: Catherine--which is/was available through retail outlets.

I guess it's also still available on MGM's streaming service, where it originally aired from February, 2018 to March, 2018.

There.  I looked it up...I shared what I found...Dammit, now I wanna watch it, whether it's any good, or not...

But I love new stuff as well as the classics. Speaking of classics I've been on a 2nd wave of American Hardcore kick of late so plenty of Youth of Today, Youth Brigade, Negative Approach, and many others.

     Yup, a really good friend introduced me to the Sex Pistols when I was in High School, back in the late-70's--love at first listen ^_^

     The Clash (of course!), Dead Kennedy's, The Ramones (actually saw them, Live), fifty-fifty with The Boomtown Rats...and Blondie and Elvis Costello because sometimes--just sometimes--commercial sell-outs don't always suck ^_^

     And then a couple years ago, I'm watching TV and I suddenly realize that the music score under a commercial is the Sex Pistols--they got the Sex Pistols singing on a frigging Mercedes Benz commercial, shilling luxury cars!  I laughed so hard I almost choked to death, I swear.

     As for Judas Priest, I mean, C'mon!  You gotta have respect for a heavy metal band that fronts with a Flute, for Christ's Sake.  That's Balls!

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Other than Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven = Easy Listening notwithstanding), I only ever really liked White Lion (sic; thought that was the name of the group, but I looked it up. The group I'm thinking of was in the 70s, not the 80s band).

I'm mostly mainstream/Top 40 from the Sixties and Seventies, but have a rather wide eclectic taste. I'll listen to Judy Garland, Starcastle and Fairport Convention in the same set. Also like a lot of the Doo-Wop of the Fifties, plus the REAL Classics--Sinatra, Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Julie London.

I also delve into show tunes, including Broadway and TV themes. I've got Cagney doing 4 George M. Cohen tunes from Yankee Doodle Dandy, for instance.

I delved into Country in the 90s, but have a fondness for some super-classic Country a la Hank Williams. I know and love so many of his songs from the 40s and early 50s that it baffles me how I heard them that much, though my dad was from Georgia and a Country music fan, so he must have listened to the right country radio stations when I was young... Or maybe it was in a previous life. Yeah, that's the ticket; that's my story and I'm stickin' with it!

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Me, I like mediaeval music, folk, jazz, prog rock... and 'standard' classical. But I listen to most things once even if I never play them again. Apart from a dire record I won in a radio phone-in when I was a youngster. About 2 bars in I took it off.

The funny thing was it was a station my mother listened to that I disliked. She came through and said they'd asked a question I'd know. She repeated it and without hesitation I said "Apollo 14"... and she made me call the station. They asked me what my answer was so I told them, and was asked to hang on. Then they switched through to the studio... once on air I got asked a completely different question! I stuck to my guns and won.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

I’m all over the place musically speaking. Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Run the Jewels, The Coup, Red Fang, Jefferson Airplane, The Dubliners, Tub Ring, B.B. King. Basically the only kind of music I actively dislike is, I don’t know what to call it... modern pop country? When I worked for a radio station I’d have to hear “Take a Drunk Girl Home” over and over again and I can’t stand that sort of stuff. Drove me nuts.

My problem is I listen to all sorts of stuff, but I only remember the names of like... 20 bands/groups/people, so I can never really have music conversations without heavy use of google. XD

I’ve never been able to call through for any radio contests. I’m never the right caller.

Hank Williams is pretty good, but Hank the Third is my favorite of the family. He infuses some really cool grunge sort of stuff in to the country framework when he’s not being sued by his record label to try and keep him on the family brand.

And I definitely get wanting to be able to understand what the vocalists are saying. I like to sing along/groove with the music most of the time, and not being able to tell what’s being said can make that difficult. A buddy of mine loves that sort of stuff though, so over time I’ve gotten more used to it just by hanging out with him.

     Yeah, understanding the lyrics is nice...but I also tend to think of the human voice as "just another instrument", so sometimes just listening to the tonalities of the singer is enough for me to enjoy.

     That's how I enjoy J-Pop without understanding Japanese ^_^

I'm a classic rock/country girl myself, it's what was played in the car by my parents growing up. However, I'm an 80's baby. So 80's and 90's pop have a special place in my heart. THough I'd take George Strait over most country music artists today.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Back in the day, I collected 45s, so learned most of the names of the songs, the artist, the composers and even the label the song was on.

However, I know almost nothing past the 90s unless it's a major crossover to somewhere.

I used to know most of the lyrics until old age attacked!

Don't know J-pop, but I remember Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto. Didn't understand a single word, but it was a big hit.

And then there's Louie Louie by the Kingsman. A judge even ruled that it was incomprehensible at ANY speed.

Since everyone seems to be having a bit of fun with their characters having some down time, I'll let it continue till the weekend.

SG-X2 will resume their mission on Saturday.

SG-X1 will resume their mission on Sunday.

     What are you talking about!  It's the best Holiday of them all, for me!  It is the time of year when self-absorbed, sociopathic morons get to publicly strut their stuff and show off to the world!!

     Here in the States we call it....the 116th United States Congress!  For months in late Autumn & early Winter, the biggest Morons from each State gather and show off just how selfish and self-delusional they can be.  And this year, they actually have a King of the Morons running things.

     Don't you have a Holiday like that in Australia?  ^_^

     And before any of y'all go-off and say something--I did, indeed, vote for said King of the Morons.  And I have no regrets.  To date, he has fulfilled all my expectations.  I voted for him specifically because I knew he'd topple the system ^_^

     The only thing that could have been funnier, is if he'd tried to actually fire a couple of Senators...

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Right now, we have heat-waves and heat-waves, temperature records being broken one day then again the next. There are catastrophic fires all over the country, and clouds of smoke choking the cities. In Sydney, smoke alarms go off indoors, they can't see the sky, let alone the Harbour Bridge or Opera House. The city is surrounded by bushfires, all but two roads cut off. Plants, animals, and people are dying. There is no water, the drought never ends, corporations steal it. Volunteer firefighters don't get paid but have had to work for months and buy supplies out of their own pockets.

And our own Prime Moron, self-absorbed, sociopathic coal-loving climate-change-denying religious extremist, Scott Morrison, has gone AWOL, fucked off to Hawaii on holiday, rather than show leadership, lend a hand, or try to manage a national disaster or suffer the heat and smoke. His people lied about it. Police push protesters away from the prime minsterial house, even little girls whose houses have burned down. When the outrage got too much, he whined that he'd come back, but still hasn't. If you're in Hawaii and see him, tell him to go back to where he came from, or better yet, don't bother going back at all. Or just punch him in his stupid smug shit-eating face. Australians will love you for it. Because burning politicians and climate-change-deniers at the stake is starting to sound like a reasonable response.

This will be Hell on Earth before long. We've seen the future and it is Mad Max.

That is the Australian holiday season.

Sorry, but you're not going to get much more than despair and rage from Aussies for a while.

While the bottom of the planet Burns, the top of the planet Freezes--and vice versa.  When summertime rolls around again for The States, the West will once again burn, and you guys will get another record-breaking Cold Winter.

That's just the planet trying to regulate the temperature...that'll stop soon, though.  We'll hit the tipping point, one day, and any and all "cooling" effects will cease, and the temperature will just keep climbing....

But it'll be a dry heat!

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

So, I took my computer to a shop and the guy thought it was a software issue, probably caused by the latest Windows Update. Couldn't afford to have him fix it.

So I borrowed a computer. Turned it on today and Windows did an update and THAT computer suddenly lost wifi.

Had to use yet a third computer to go online to find a solution. Essentially, I had to uninstall the wifi program and then restart the computer. Seems to be all better now. Until Windows screws up again.

It has to do with lack of Military Training.
Military is worried as an untrained noncombatant you would do something that could get you killed without training to know better. Which is why Medical and Religious noncombatants in the Military still go through boot camp. And never ever call a Ranger Medic a noncombatant.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Nearly back in business. After consulting with the local computer repair store, the options were get a replacement screen for the newer laptop computer for $150-200, buy an external monitor + adapter for $75, replace the keyboard on the older laptop for $100, or buy an external keyboard for $25. The first option is almost the cost of a new computer. The only option I can afford at this time is the last one. So, now I've got a new keyboard. It's still a pain, as I need to use the touchpad on the laptop, and it'll take getting used to where the keys are on this one.

I'll probably order a new computer online via a credit program, in which case I'll be paying for it for the rest of my life. At least they're deferring payments until August.

When I typed up the previous post, I had no idea I was going to be able to solve the problem this quickly. I'll still need to pull the digital hard drive out of the old computer and add it to my stack of external hard drives. Must be a box or something I can put them all in.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

There are devices that you can plug one or more internal hard drives into to use them as external hard drives. (For example: https://smile.amazon.com/Neeye...upport/dp/B085RK9ZZ2 or https://smile.amazon.com/ikuai...ported/dp/B083W6YBPW - I'm not endorsing either of these; they're just examples.) They also have "enclosures" that are for more long-term conversion.

It is good to hear you're almost back, though. You may consider getting a cheapo mouse (you can get them for like $6 or $7); that might be a bit less painful than trying to use the touchpad!

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

I have two hard drives from previous dead computers sitting in a box on my shelf. One is in a case. I was just thinking of getting a small box that could hold all three of the hard drives. That's assuming I don't pull the one out of the other computer and put it in the new one, since I had it upgraded to digital about 2 years ago. Depends on what the new one is.

The touch pad on my computer isn't too pad; I'm used to it. On the older one, though, it can be a pain.

When I bought the newer computer, I bought a wireless mouse for using on my desk in my bedroom, but these days, I'm using my laptop on my lap out in the living room while I watch TV. Inconvenient for a mouse.

But... I bought a small cutting board last year or so for the laptop to rest on to disperse the heat better. Using the older computer, it has to sit on a TV tray while the keyboard is in my lap. It was a pain to switch back and forth from keyboard to the touchpad, so inspiration struck! Since I wasn't using the mouse any more, I pulled the wireless off the dead computer and inserted into the USB slot on the old computer. Now I can use the mouse on the cutting board on the arm of the lounge chair.

It's still a bit inconvenient and takes getting used to again.

And the older computer has a smaller screen so it doesn't display as much data... It'll be fine as long as it's a temporary work-around.

Re: Relaxation Room-2 (OOCs)

Well Folks, on top of all the Pandemic Crap and Pustulent Political Posturing we've been having to deal with, we now are entering that most dreaded of social crises....

THE HOLIDAYS!

That's right, the time of year when IRL shoves it's unwanted presence upon all of us--interfering with our Gaming Plans and causing a general Slow Down of all our Posting!

I tell ya, it's enough to make a person want to eat Fruit Cake and wear Ugly Sweaters--just to make it Go Away!

Seriously though, over the next couple of months activity across the Boards traditionally  does tend to slow down, as everyone gets caught up in The Holidays.

So, whether it's pulling extra hours at work, having to "entertain" visiting Family, or just running around in circles and screaming in frustration, we all need to be just a little patient if some of our favorite Boards start to slow down--or even grind to a halt!

It's just temporary!  This, too, shall pass!

And soon enough we can get back to what's really important -- Gaming!

In the UK, one channel (cannot recall which) is running through Stargate: SG1 a couple of episodes a night... and then repeating the past week's worth on Saturday & Sunday afternoons for good measure; so I'm getting a daily fix at the moment :)

Wouldn't It Be Great?

SyFyWire - Trent Moore, Sept 12, 2020:
     The Stargate franchise ran for more than a decade with three live action series and a few movies (and a web series) along the way. But after being mothballed the past few years, it sounds like we’re closer than ever to actually getting the ‘Gate back online.

     We already knew former producer Brad Wright, who helped shape the franchise across the runs of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, had been working on a pitch for a new Stargate show the past year or so with studio MGM. But Hollywood is notoriously slow right up until it’s not, and we haven’t had much news lately. But we can take solace that things are, apparently, still chugging along behind the scenes.

     As flagged by Gateworld, fellow producer Joseph Mallozzi has teased on Twitter and Reddit that talks are “progressing” toward getting the project off the ground (which is always better news than "dead") — and even offered up some details for fans wondering what shape the project might take. For one, Mallozzi made it pretty clear the pitch being developed by Wright is set within the existing continuity they spent several years building across the prior shows. He added fans would see plenty of “familiar faces” if the series moves forward. So all those adventures of SG-1, the alien races, the former characters, the world-building, the Destiny out trucking across the universe — all those things would presumably still be in the canon.

     Specifically, Mallozzi noted that fans would get “answers” to the big cliffhanger ending that wrapped the franchise proper, with the final season of Stargate: Universe closing out with the ship jumping off into parts unknown.

     He also addressed the question of where the potential project might air, if it eventually makes it to screen. It sounds like that’s still one of the big unknowns with the project, with Mallozzi adding fans would need to subscribe or tune in to whichever streaming service or network pulls the trigger (if one eventually does).

     With so many properties being mined, revived and rebooted these days — from a new Battlestar Galactica coming to Peacock, to a full slate of Star Trek shows on CBS All Access — it’s wild to think SG-1 has been effectively dormant for nine years, ever since the cancellation of Universe in 2011 (aside from the limited 2018 web series Stargate Origins). It’s a massive franchise with a literal portal to limitless options — and you’d have to think it’s only a matter of time before someone locks that seventh chevron again.

     For myself, I'm hoping that it'll be a fusion of SG1 & Atlantis--where a cloaked Atlantis, parked in the middle of the Pacific, is now the "new" HQ of StarGate Command.  And, maybe, if they were to say it's, like, 20+-years in the future (from "when" Atlantis returned to Earth), they could introduce "fresh" actors as the children of some of the original characters (I'd love to see Ronin's Daughter kicking ass like her Old Man!  Or for the younger Jack clone to have joined up...).  Plus, that would also still allow many of the Original Characters to still have the option of showing up.

Yes, if we were running Hollywood, that's the way we'd do it.

I don't think there's ever been a movie or TV series that we (the fans) didn't say "It'd have been better if they had... fill in the blank."

Just because they don't do it our way, though, doesn't mean it isn't fun.

I'm doing fairly well. I have a contusion and traumatic hematoma that has the left side of my forehead swollen and has caused my eye to swell and bruise and is now moving down my cheek. I have whiplash from around C2 aaaaaall the way down to S1. The airbags did not deploy nor did the seatbelt tighten so I may have a case there. I have a F/U with my GP tomorrow (today for me given the time) so we shall see what he says.

For now I an engaged in better living through chemicals.

Wouldn't It Be Great?

The party gathers at the Prince-Bishop's place (despite the title, the office is held by an elf lady cleric...) but before they can be given their orders a halfling bursts in, half-dead of exhaustion and fear. He's come from a village some 3 days' travel away where he was trading hides, and claims that it is absolutely heaving with ghosts.

The Priest-Bishop promptly orders the party to go find out what is happening at the village, which is called Hornwall, and gives them a magical transportation device, a portkey. This requires someone who knows the place to think of it, then everyone touching it is transported to that location. Off they go, arriving on a small hill overlooking the village, then go down into the village and start meeting the rather odd locals. They don't notice the halfling disappearing with the portkey...

The villlage people are a bunch of bandits who killed the original villagers and took over. The villagers weren't buried properly, just dumped, and are resting uneasily. Some of the bandits are enjoying the more settled life and agree to convert to Oesedd and live civilised lives but most need to be run off/killed. The villagers are given proper burial, and the party prepares to return to the Priest-Bishop, which is when the find that the portkey (and the halfling) are missing.

They have to walk back... the Prince-Bishop is furious and tasks them with retrieving her portkey.

They'd found the halfling's belongings in Hornwall, including a sketchbook that shows the under-construction lighthouse in Freeport, an island city-state of a somewhat lawless nature. They are wondering how to get there when a strange building arrives on the outskirts of the city. They are sent to investigate...

(That took my group about 3 sessions to complete, by the way)

That would be where Thunk picks up the catch phrase "I ain't afraid of no ghosts!" and learns the lesson: Next time, keep an eye on the Halfling!

He has no idea what to do about the bandits that now want to become the respectable citizens they just killed, but somehow thinks that sounds fair. In the end, he leaves it up to the wiser and smarter members of the group to make the final decision.

He winds up limping back to town from an injury he got from a bandit that he then killed in return. "I only kill da bad guys!"

Did some spring cleaning last weekend. Ran across a box of some ten-year old papers mixed in with some gaming materials. And then there was this sheet...

DIVERT YOUR COURSE

This is the actual radio conversation of a U.S. naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations, 10-10-95.

CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision.

CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: This the captain of the U.S. Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

AMERICANS: This the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Lincoln, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied by three Destroyers, three Cruisers, and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that’s one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.

CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Way to go, Sarah!

For me, it was just a typed up sheet of paper in a box of old paperwork. It still made me laugh.

Of course the Navy would want you to believe it was untrue and just a joke. But now we're talking is the report that it's a joke all a joke?

It's one of those things that sounds good at first glance, but if you start to think about it a bit, it starts to get shaky. My first thought after my initial read and laugh is that why wouldn't the lighthouse have identified itself right off the bat?

But, Hilda, does it say something about Americans, or does it say something about what other countries think of Americans?

Not much. The group is trying to determine if the First City's Alteran defenses will target Naseem/Hecate. They do know about the Goa'uld, but do they know about the Tok'ra, and can they make a distinction?

Sarah plans on staying at the base and learning more about it. So, Naseem can remain with her if she doesn't want to risk going to the First City.

If there's something you feel she can contribute there, though, by all means go.

     I got an idea, Naseem!  We--Kaspar, Tate, & Freyda--found another active Alteran AI, on the puddlejumper in the hangar bay, maybe you and Tate could continue to interact with her, while Kaspar & Co. go to the First City to negotiate the use of their buried Stargate.

     I suggest this because Tate is carrying a "comm-badge" which he can talk to "Zera" with--the AI in the 'jumper--and he can ask her, via that device, if she knows the difference between Goa'uld and Tok'ra.  And if she doesn't, we could then ask her if she'd let us--you and Hecate--instruct her in the distinction.  That is....before she blasts you into dust... ^_^

     Actually, now that I think upon it, I believe that Hecate was--wadda ya call it, "dormant"?--all during our encounter with the Holographic Guardian, when we first entered the base, this mission.  It's possible that Eevee, the Base AI, doesn't know that Naseem carries a Tok'ra--what Eevee might consider to be a Goa'uld!  I know we've been scanned a few times, but, maybe, Eevee didn't know how to interpret the readings of a "dormant snake" wrapped around Naseem's spinal cord....  ^_^

Dormant...not exactly. Hecate still sees, hears, and feels everything Naseem does but Naseem is the dominant personality until such time as the two agree to change and let Hecate take over. So there's still a fully active symbiote in Naseem's body but it's being quiet and observing as well as taking care of any biological issues that may pop up and need attention which, in Naseem's case, is dealing with her fairly mucked up brain chemistry caused by PTSS and the attendant changes in her nervous system and various neurotransmitters.

WHERE THE HELL AM I??

Hi everyone! I've had some real-life changes that leave me with a lot less time and energy and I need to cut back on some games. Unfortunately, this will have to be one of them. I've played Hilda since it started, a surprising eight years ago, she's had a good run and I've done all I can with her here, while my interest in the setting and system has waned. So I'll use this opportunity in Shot in the Dark to retire Hilda. It's been fun playing with you all, and I wish you good luck in future explorations.

WHERE THE HELL AM I??

In my 20+ years of PbP gaming on various sites, it was generally accepted that posting between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day diminished considerably due to Holidaze, work schedule changes, family, shopping, putting up decorations, etc. For that reason, expectations for timely posts was kind of put on hold.

In my case, this didn't usually apply to me, but this year, I seem to have hit a down cycle. It's probably a combination of age + health + meds + diet + environment + Holidaze. So, just bear with me while I sort it all out and hopefully get back on track in the new year.

     So ... Idiot Boy (me) finally went and bought a New Laptop.  Oh, and not just a new laptop -- oh no! -- I went and bought an up to date, current technology laptop.  Super-duper Processor, fast as a rabbit internet, more graphics power than I'll ever need, and it even has Windows 11 installed ... this thing is something the NSA would be jealous of.
(just kidding, guys at the NSA!  You have the superior computers, of course ... please don't raid my house ...)

     So of course, I have no idea how to make this damn thing do any of the things I want it to do!  I keep giving it commands ... it keeps refusing ... I keep hitting the Run button ... it just runs around my house, yelling "Nyaa-nyaa" ... I keep chasing after it, waving a 3-pound ball peen hammer ... sigh ...

     So please bear with me, until I beat some obedience get through the learning curve of this new machine.
(never mind the time it'll take to transfer all the data from the old computer to the new one!)

So apparently it was my turn to get Covid, although a weaker strain. Culminated Monday night when I fell getting out of bed because I got dizzy and my legs were so weak they couldn't support me. After friends helped me get into a chair, called an ambulance to take me to the hospital for evaluation and testing. Everything else was clear but the test came back positive for Covid. Put some fluids in me, gave me a few prescriptions for me cough, and sent me home.

According to the doctor, I have it for a few days, so Monday was the worst of it. Getting better, but I still feel like crap and a bit unsteady on my feet.

At least this explains why I've been feeling so crappy for awhile now.

As you may have heard, Southwest Florida where I  live got clobbered by Hurricane Ian. Once again, we've lost power. With Irma, we lost it for 10 days. It could be longer this time as a couple of substations got trashed and there's almost a million people without power now across the six counties.

Currently using my friend's hot spot from his phone, but there's still the problem of charging up my computer and his cell phone.

So, not sure how much I'll be able to post before we get power back. No gas stations are operable because their pumps are electrical and they don't have power either. Most stores were closed today, but a few restaurants managed to open to feed the people that can't cook at home now.

Lots of trees down, and some damage to houses and yards. Six houses on our block lost their back porches. Our fence barely survived, but it's leaning because the ground got so soaked. Lost a few solar panels. But other than that, made it through without any damage to the house (except the back porch (the lanai) is 50% gone) and we're all intact--people, cats and dogs.

Yea! Power's back as of Friday afternoon. Internet came back late Friday night. We thought it'd take long because we're at the tail end of a line and the telephone pole and transformer at the other end of the block were both lying on the ground because the pole had snapped in half!

Spent yesterday cleaning up, picking up the pieces, putting things back in place, and making sure nothing got burnt out. We'd unplugged the TVs and shut off the AC at the circuit box, so we seem to be okay.

Our two house cats keep wanting to go out on the back porch like they used to, but it's half gone, so that's not going to be an option for awhile.

Anyway, expect to get caught up on my games today.

Somewhere along the way, someone had mentioned that there was a second Stargate RPG out there, so, while I get caught up, I thought I'd take a look. As it turns out, there are at least TWO games out there now.

The first that had been mentioned is done by Wyvern Games. It's basically the D&D 5e system. There are some tweaks that supposedly make it interesting, but nothing sounded all that exciting.

Then, apparently, there's a Modiphius version using their 2d20 system. I'm not a big fan of the Star Trek Adventures that uses the same system (as does John Carter and Conan), but maybe it's because it doesn't seem to work well on RPoL (or maybe it was just me).

I guess I still prefer the d20/Spycraft version that we're using.

Just thought I'd toss this out there, since I need to recruit a few more players. Maybe?

Re: Wadda Ya Mean -- FUSION Device?

As I probably mentioned, ever since I caught COVID back in October, I've felt like crap even after it went away. Supposedly, the aftermath leaves you tired for months. So I don't have enough energy to post very often most days, and when I do, I'm barely managing to do chores and run errands.

Last two weeks, I've been having minor chest pains on my right side (I'm not an alien--I only have one heart and it's on the left). While I thought it was just a muscle strain from lifting something, my previous heart problem and age had the VA nurse advise me to go to the ER.

So Thursday afternoon, that's what I did! After two days of poking and prodding and inspecting and injecting, they finally determined that I had absolutely no heart concerns. They sent me home Saturday morning with a $600 prescription! At least the first month is free, but unless the VA covers it, I won't be taking that next month.

And the stupid part is that I felt worse when I got discharged than I did when I went in!

Outside of the hospital, though, someone suggested my tiredness/lack of energy may be due to an iron deficiency, which might also account for my lack of appetite.

And then there's the insomnia... haven't slept in five days.

Anyway, I felt a little better today, so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

In reply to Lucas Wheeler (msg # 339):

Hey Everybody!

Something that some of you may know about me is that the December to February time of year is when I send my Brain out for a good Washing.  And as so often happens, I then can't remember where I sent it, and it takes a month or two to find it again ... so that's where I've been.
(I.e., my Manic Cycle is at its yearly lowest, and I don't give a shit about nothing!)

But enough of my lies and excuses...

StarMaster went back into the hospital last Friday (01/06).  Over the last month -- after he'd been cleared of COVID by the Doctors -- he was still feeling weak and "out of it".  The weakness got slowly worse, and he also lost his appetite, just couldn't sleep well, and had difficulty focusing.

He finally managed to schedule a VA appointment to actually see a Doctor for next Friday -- so he needed to go to the VA to get bloodwork done this past Friday.

He was unsteady on his feet by then, so I drove him up to the VA for the bloodwork that morning -- we got home around Noon and about an hour later, his VA Doc calls up and orders him to get to an ER immediately!

The Doc said his A1C was way abouve 9.0.  That's no typo -- abouve 9 - point - 0!!

We rushed him immediately to the Hospital (assume Standard Hospital ER Nightmare) and finally got him admitted.

As of the time of this writing, if the Docs actually have any idea about the cause of what's happening, they ain't telling StarMaster...

Anyway, That's all I know.  I'll keep checking in with him, and if I learn anythi--Crap!  My Brain fell out from my ear again!

Now I gotta go chappabloomatonka...pllllllllllllltt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Conditions other than diabetes can cause elevations in A1c - anemia, liver disease, kidney failure can all cause a high A1c. I wish him the very best and hope he gets an answer soon.

The highest A1c I've ever seen was an incidental finding in routine pre-op labs I had ordered during my general surgery residency. The patient was sitting at 15.6 (22.3 mmol/L) and was completely asymptomatic. Needless to say the surgery was cancelled and aggressive measures were taken to get the undiagnosed, completely out of control DM under control since elevated blood glucose (especially that high) makes wound healing highly problematic.

Sadly the rapid drop in A1c brought on by very aggressive management fried the nerves in his legs and brought on peripheral neuropathy which was all endo's doing. A slow, steady management approach is called for in cases like that.

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

So here's what's been happening...

I've been 'ill' for about three months now, starting with getting COVID back in the beginning of October. Wasn't too bad and I got over it in a few days, but it left me with the typical aftermath symptom of being tired ALL THE TIME. I was slowly getting over it, and even had a few hours of energy every day.

I had a doctor's appointment scheduled for mid-October but then Hurricane Ian hit. The VA clinic took some damage and was closed for two weeks. I finally got the appointment rescheduled for Jan. 13.

December 1st, I had a minor chest pain on my right side. It felt like just a minor muscle strain but at my age and with my medical history, I felt it was prudent to check. Called the VA clinic to see about a walk-in visit the next day and the nurse I talked to went into panic mode with the 'chest pain' words, and told me to go to the ER. So, on Friday, December 2nd, that's what I did. More panic mode.

Spent 4 days being poked and prodded, inspected, detected, and injected and stuff, only to be told my heart was fine. More exactly, they couldn't find any cause for the chest pain... the obvious cause seemed to elude them.

Here's where it started going to hell. Getting out of the hospital, I had an extreme loss of appetite, shortness of breath, and NO ENERGY. Didn't have any of that when I went in!

Not only was I not hungry, but nothing tasted appealing any more. Could barely eat my favorite foods, and then only 2-3 bites. On top of that, I ran out of one of my diabetes medicines. Not eating and drinking much, I also wasn't taking my meds as regularly as I had been.

This went on for the next three weeks, so things probably grew gradually worse without me quite realizing it.

December 31st, I managed to pull a back muscle, and while the pain meds I took didn't do squat, I at least knew it'd go away in a few days. It did. And then I got hives!

Jan. 6 I went to the VA clinic to get bloodwork done for my doctor's appointment. No sooner did I get home than the doctor called to tell me my blood sugar level was 903! I needed to go to the ER pronto! That's where I've been for the past week. :-(

I still didn't feel all that bad (weak and no energy), but I definitely had some serious health issues. Turned out I had ketoacidosis and some kidney issues. After a few days treatment, the keto was gone, kidneys were all better, and my blood sugar was back to normal. Now I had to survive the 'recovery'. As long as I was stuck in that hospital bed, though, I knew I wasn't going to get better. So now I'm home.

Have a nurse helping me, and physical therapy should start tomorrow. And now I have to play tag with a doctor's appointment again...

Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this is in case you, family or a friend should find yourself in a similar situation, you'll have a heads-up/warning about what's might be happening.

Now it's just recovery and rehab.

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

So while I was stuck in the hospital bed for two weeks, I wrote and rewrote this post in my head several times. Don't remember any of it now, so here's the newest version.

THE NEVER-ENDING STORY...

The Missing Chapter: when I was discharged from the hospital back in January, I was sent home with a Foley catheter, which was more of an annoyance and handicap for my home rehab at the time. Managed to get an appointment with the VA  urologist two weeks later. He thought I should never have been sent home with it, but it was time to get it removed. Took a week of scheduling shuffles but finally went home without it on the following Thursday.

That Friday night when getting ready for bed, I lost my balance while setting something on the floor and fell over on my back onto the concrete floor. My housemate helped me get up and everything seemed fine once I was back out in the recliner. Nope. Come Saturday, I was in excruciating pain across all the muscles in my chest and back. Doan's, Aleve, Tylenol didn't help at all. Monday added a heating pad... better. Wednesday, switched to BenGay... better, but still couldn't sleep, so Thursday went back to the VA for some stronger pain meds.

That doctor saw the previous records and thought I might be having a pulmonary embolism and immediately did an ambulance transfer to the ER. 6 hours later the ER doctor decided that wasn't the case and sent me home with vicadin. Didn't do anything but pharmacy was closed so had to wait till the next day to get more.

After that, everything was fine for a few hours. Mid-afternoon, I suddenly couldn't move my legs!

EMT/PD shortly had me back in the ER. MRI of head and neck revealed a tumor in my C2 vertebra. Had spinal surgery next morning! Being the weekend, it took 4 days to get the pathology back which identified it as prostate cancer. Caught it early and getting chemo, and now in rehab to walk again.

Other than that, I'm in great health (for my age)! Probably 4-6 weeks in rehab before I go home.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

I fumbled the ball again. Like Lizzie, I was trying to figure out their Vitality/Wound system and it was just confusing me. So I was working out a 'new' system... and then forgot about it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VITALITY & WOUNDS TRACKER (Revised) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VITALITY DIE:d8# =2+CON (+4)MAXIMUM VITALITY:2015:MAXIMUM WOUNDS
 PENVITALITYWOUNDSRECOVERY TIME
HURTLEVEL 1 FATIGUE:-1-10110 minutes
INJUREDLEVEL 2 FATIGUE:-2-2021 hour
DAMAGEDLEVEL 3 FATIGUE:-3-3032 hours (short rest)
SERIOUSLY INJUREDExhausted:-4-4048 hours
 Incapacitated:-5-50+524 hours (long rest)
UNCONSCIOUS:---60+6(Mostly) DEAD!
STAVE OFF DEATH:
You should now have a block on your character sheet for keeping track of Vitality and Wounds as above. Although you can receive Wounds  from other sources than injury, every ten Vitality imposes one Wound.
The table also shows the penalty imposed from injury.
It shows, also, recovery time to get rid of the penalty. Medical treatment shifts recovery up one step.
It's still a 'work in progress' so feel free to poke holes in it.
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY
Alas, things aren't going well. The rehab facility sucks, the therapy is inadequate, the nursing substandard, and the food mostly atrocious. Have to be out of here in a month cause I can't afford any longer than that.
The oncologist Wednesday ruled out radiation therapy since I don't have any pain anywhere else on my body. Just chemo which leaves me tired most of the time.
I'm no oncologist but that sounds off to me. What does a lack of pain matter in determining whether to use radiation vs. chemo? I thought brachytherapy was fairly common in cases where treatment (versus expectant management) is warranted.
HAPPY ANY DAY!
The radiation therapy would have been for treating any remaining tumor in my spine or if it had metastacized to some other location... and thus be causing the pain. The prostate cancer is limited to the prostate now, so only chemo is required.
Either that or the bullywugs are having a mad tea party in my brain.
Apologies for no update but really didn't think there was one.
Still paraplegic trying to recover mobility at a poor rehab facility with bad nursing and half-horrible food until...
Developed a sore on my butt from laying in bed 24/7 that didn't get treated properly and turned gangrene, so now I'm back in the hospital with surgery scheduled for Tuesday.
Recovery to go home was still about a month away. Don't yet know how this new problem will affect that.
Low energy levels at rehab have left me with a one-track mind--just have trouble shifting gears between game systems right now.
My OCD stubbornness is still keeping me from pulling the plug on my games. I really have fun running games and it really bums me out that I can't keep them going right now for all of you. For those of you who are still sticking around waiting for the game to restart, I sincerely apologize for the delay. HAPPY ANY DAY!
Can't sleep, can't focus to post... turn. More of the same. Turn. Repeat.
STAGE MINUS ONE--SPINAL SURGERY: Hell, I don't even remember half of it. This would have been the spinal surgery to remove the tumor and put me on my back for two weeks. DONE. SUCCESS!
STAGE ZERO--REHAB ERROR: Weeks at rehab facility where inadequate and improper nursing care turned an ordinary bedsore into a far more serious gangrene wound... one that now needed surgery to fix. DONE? WAS THAT A SUCCESS OR FAILURE?
STAGE ONE--BACKSIDE SURGERY: Operation on my tailbone went off without a hitch apparently. Just left with a major wound on my tailbone. Couldn't/can't put pressure on the wound while it heals, thus laying on my side and having to get turned to the other side every two hours, necessitating having to learn to type on my laptop upside down and sideways with one finger. Remember, this is at the BETTER recovery/rehab facility rather than at home, so options are still limited. Did I mention the I-V dangling from my arm that also gets in the way? DONE. SUCCESS.
STAGE TWO--STAPLES/SUTURES REMOVAL: Staples and stitches still need to come out. Don't have a timeline for that yet but presumably soon.
___STAGE 2.1: First half of the staples were taken out Tuesday. On schedule, standard routine. DONE. SUCCESS.
___STAGE 2.2: Second half of staples were removed Friday. Again, right on schedule with no complications. DONE. SUCCESS.
___STAGE 2.3: Sutures are currently supposed to come out on Monday, though that probably depends on how the final healing has progressed, since not everyone will heal the same way. PENDING.
STAGE THREE--WOUND REHAB: sitting protocols start as soon as sutures come out (?). Start getting used to sitting up  again... in 15-minute intervals. No details yet on frequency or duration. Will kind of depend on how well I do, but further complicated by not  having any control of my leg muscles. Requires moving to a normal bed rather than this deluxe air bubbling mattress that's meant to stimulate skin/muscle do I don't get more bedsores.
STAGE FOUR--HOME REHAB: As soon as I can stand up on my own two legs, I should be able to go home for final rehab. Regain mobility. At this point, there's no telling how well the wound rehab and the paralysis rehab will work together. The therapist seemed to think they could make them work together in synergy, but I didn't get a whole lot of enthusiasm from him. I suppose it could be uncharted territory for him.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: I now qualify for Frequent Surgery Miles. I've had four surgeries so the fifth one is free! Oddly, I started with the Big One (double bypass heart surgery 15 years ago) and that went easier than these.
Still not sure if there's a light at  the end of the tunnel yet--if there is, hope it's the Battery Low indicator and not the Westbound #9 train!
___STAGE 2.3: Sutures came out on Monday right on schedule, but the final healing is still in progress for several weeks/months. DONE. SUCCESS.
STAGE THREE--WOUND REHAB: sitting up for continued wound rehab protocols start as soon as sutures came out, about a week ago now. Start getting used to sitting up  again... in 15-minute intervals twice a day. Moved to a standard air mattress bed. Frequency and duration will kind of depend on how well I do, but further complicated by not having any control over my leg muscles and not enough feeling below the waist. Communication/responsibility issue has only produced one session--should have been six by now! PENDING???
___STAGE 3.5--RESUME PREVIOUS REHAB: In a week or two or three depending on how quickly I improve here, I get transferred to yet another Rehab facility for continued wound recovery... takes a long time... as well as mobility rehab.
___Stage 3.7--TRANSFER TO NEW REHAB: So the Wound Recovery has done well enough that I'm getting transferred to a different rehab facility for the Sitting/Mobility rehab. Don't know why there's a difference other than where I'm at is more medical than therapeutic so they need to make room for a new patient.
THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: Different tunnel, different light. I suppose it's a step in the right direction, but we'll have to see how it goes.
Fellow Human Beings ... Fellow Gamers ... Friends ...
It is with a saddened heart that I inform you all of the passing of Robert Rusk -- better known to many of us as StarMaster.
Rob passed in his sleep on Thursday morning, July 6, 2023, at approximately 10:30am.  He had been hospitalized since early in the year due to complications concerning Cancer & associated surgeries.  He was 73 years old.
Rob was a Comics Fan Boy & fiction writer wannabe his whole life and came to Roleplaying in the Early Days of 1978.  It was my distinct pleasure to have met him, and gamed with him, since that time.
After his Retirement, Rob committed himself to the community he found in RPol, participating in over 20+ games, here.  He was an especial "softie" for GM-adopting abandoned games and working to keep them running, for the enjoyment of the Players.
He will be missed.
