Day 2: In the Oytwood

After a long day of fighting, running, fighting, walking and fighting again, the peaceful passing of a whole night without further incident comes as a welcome relief.

The huts offer more than enough cooking facilities for those who feel the need to apply heat to their rations in one way or another, so everyone enjoys a better meal than most days have seen in recent weeks.

Then everyone is free to spend the day on whatever tasks they choose before they plan to travel southward again this evening. Of course there is one specific chore to be done – patching the holes in the log palisade that surrounds this former outpost built by human woodsmen deep in the Oytwood – but there are enough of you to easily accomplish this task well before the day is done.

OOC: Are there any particular preparations or other actions anyone wants to do on Day 2 before claiming the kobold's magical wand as reward for services rendered and setting out on the next leg of your journey?

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Jurz spends the night cuddled up with Rog sharing their warmth between them.  They sleep well but lightly, and every so often an eye opens to see whatever made that last squeak, grunt of serious snore. However, Jurz rises a couple of hours before dawn as he starts to revert to the night time cycle that best suits his race.

Once he is awake he moves quietly out of the barn  and has a quick look around the stockade to check that all is safe before he takes a walk in the local woods (with Rog following along behind)  so that he can enjoy the solitude of the nature alone.  Well at least in the company of Rog who can sniff at bushes, dart about and startle small creatures to his hearts content.  AS he walks, he considers which spells would be most useful on the next part of their journey.

Then he will duck into O Baddy's hut for a minute or two.

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

OOC: As the group is stopping here and resting for a full 24 hours anyone who is injured will be able to heal 2 hit points naturally. All spellcasters will be able to prepare spells twice during this period, so everyone will be fully healed and have a full set of spells available for the next night of travel. If anyone wants to use some of their first set of spells to check out any items discovered on the first day or make any longer term preparations for the next night or whatever, just say so.

Please make any changes in your own character sheets for your current spell selections for the next night of travel. When we get started I will go through the character sheets and if you haven't already edited them yourselves I will simply remove any notations against spells that were cast on Day 1 so you will end up with the same spell selection over again for Day 2.

”Rights Den.” Jurz announces partway through the morning.  ”I’s gonna look for magics.  So if’n youse got tings youse tink is magicals - den put dem dere.” he says pointing to a spot on the floor.  <aqua>

He makes sure the vials from O’Baddy’s hut are there in the pile and, while he is doing it, he will steal a glance at the new dagger he acquired and the masterwork shield he got earlier, as well as looking around at all of the others present.

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Bulldust rises from his long sleep some time after Jurz does.  He's feeling refreshed but hungry-as-a-teenage-bugbear.  He wakes Moffdust then goes looking for Oopses bag, the only source of food he knows of, then wanders out of the barn looking for more.

The first thing he finds is a dusty longspear leaning against the barn wall.  He grabs it and waves it about and stabs some bushes practicing moves he saw Minmorc use yesterday.  He wanders about the village looking at the gaps in the log wall and noticing the repairs started by Grakk.  When he finds Jurz he greets him in Bugbear fashion, "Hi Jurz, whats for breakfast?"

Once Bulldust realizes that Jurz is doing more magic he gets really excited and forgets all about breakfast.  "Oo Oo wait, I'll get Moffa."  He dashes back to the barn and shouts "JURZ IS FINDING ALL VE MAGIC!!"  He grabs up the treasures they found yesterday and Moffa and pulls them outside.  He places Moffa and the other stuff on the ground in front of Jurz then places his new longspear beside her and looks down at Jurz expectantly.

"You's dont puts me there Bully! Jurz knows I'm magic." Moffa emptys her pockets of loot from their battles then steps back out of Jurz's gaze. As its still dark she'll unhook Cat from the inside of her cloak and send him off to forage. The bat flutters around the village then out into the forest.

She goes to look inside the O-Baddy hut. She'd heard a lot of comings and goings there during the night but had been too tired to investigate then.

Bulldust nods at Moffdust's explanation.  Everyone knows she's magic.  He wonders if he's magic.  He stands in front of Jurz amongst all the looted stuff.  He holds his arms wide with his face lifted to the night sky and screws his eyes shut while he waits and hopes for the answer ...

Dregz sleeps huddled in the corner on his pile of straw, clutching his heavy sack tightly all through the long night. But come morning the priest is to be found, sitting up, a huge book cradled in his small hands which he pours over fervently, shielding the contents should any come near as he mutters prayers to Bargrivyek.

At length the little goblin closes his book with a sigh and reverently returns it to the sack, wrapping it up with care before guzzling down his breakfast.

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Minmorc will awaken some time around three in the morning and will stalk out into the forest, Vera in hand. Around dawn he will reappear with a wild piglet dangling from his packs. Seeing Bully practicing with the spear he will stash the piglet in his room and will grab a bit of rope and the remains of a Raynment thing which he will tie to a post. Grabbing Bully by the scruff of the neck he'll drag him over to the post and jab the middle of the raynment. "If der enemy gots no armour jab in the middle." He'll then jab it four times up its length. "If dyes got armour jab inna leg, guts, pits and neck." He'll then alternate between butchering and drying the piglet, eating some of his own rations and giving Bully helpful advice like "yer as slow as dead things", "faster den dat you elf puddle" and of coarse "Moffa can hit harder den dat!"  Once he's tired of teaching Bully he'll wander over to the hole in the fence and will start putting the posts back in place. He'll have a nap during the hot part of the day then keep working til the jobs done.

”Hey, dats magic armour youse got dere Bully.” he says passing the good news on to the young bugbear.  ”And dat swords magic.” he adds just to confirm that Minmorc’s glowing sword is indeed magical    ”But dat’s poison.” he says pointing at one of the orc’s vials.

He will take a bit of time to point to various bottles, potions and other items as he shares his knowledge with the individuals concerned.

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Jurz happily tells each person, quietly and individually, about the magical auras that he detected on their possessions. (Note: spellcasters themselves don't automatically show as magical unless they have active spells on them; standard auras for magic armour and shields are abjuration and magic weapons are evocation.)

In reply to Wyrm of Wyrd (msg # 13):

Climbing down the latter that showed signs of a previous orc search, Oppses foot broke through the last wrong(3rd from bottom, previously the lst intact one) and fell down with a grunt.

He watches the naming and point display, before asking "Is they gonna find us here?"

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

OOC: We will work on the assumption that the various divine spellcasters will use their prayers from the first part of this stay to heal up everyone else in the group who is wounded (not because it would be a good thing to do but just so there are more people strong and healthy enough to fight any enemies that turn up) - it's all about self-preservation, of course, and having other people who owe them favours, etc. So everyone is back to full health and a full set of spells again by the time you are ready to move on.

Moffdust scuffs the dirt in the doorway of the o-baddy hut as she stalks out, obviously disgusted. She walks past Jurz and Bully muttering "Thats jus typical of religionses... once youse opens the door theys got nothin on their insides."  She walks on to hole in the fence to help the big guys mend it. When its obvious that her small size and strength are not suited to the task she'll scavenge in the forest for animal skulls which she'll arrange on the fence to decorate the repaired sections.

Re: Minmorc and Riza

Riza sleeps soundly through the night. She will awake in the morning and spend a few hours in the nearby forest and see if she can find any poisonous spiders or reptiles she can kill and extract their poison from to apply to her weapons, if she succeeds she will store the poison in an empty potion vial. She will also wear the ring minmorc passed to her earlier. Once she returns from the forest she will have a bite to eat and then help repair the walls where she can, the sooner they can get the wand and leave here the better....

Re: Minmorc and Riza

After a whispered conversation with Jurz, and indeed providing Bargrivyek's blessing for any of the rag-tag tribe that needs it, the goblin priest spends the rest of the day alternatively keeping out of the way of the fence builders, passing stuff where he can, bringing water to the labourers when necessary and otherwise praying up a storm that these new walls prove sturdy ... indeed, should the strength of his belief be any indication, then this fence should survive till the end of days !

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

With the bigguns all helping to repair the walls and plenty of nimble little fingers helping to fasten the logs in place the task is easily accomplished during that day. By the time dusk falls everyone is ready to move on again. The kobold from the cabin and his robed companion have not come out to talk to you or inspect your work at all during the day.

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Once Minmorc has finished working on the wall he will grab the piglet and will head into the cabin to slice strips off the beastie and prep as much as he can for later. With the piglet laid out in front of him he is struck by another vision. Eyes rolled up into his head his hands move with a mind of their own - leather is cut into elongated leaf shapes, the pigs bladder is cleaned, sealed and inflated, the parts assembled and stitched, the iron studded rings torn from the great club and fixed to the objects exterior. With a roar power glows in the orcs eyes and flows down his arms and into the object causing it to float into the air, spin rapidly and flare in a dazzling flash of light. There is a great crash as Minmorc is thrown against a wall, then a series of thuds as the object falls and bounces on the ground. Reverently Minmorc carries it outside and with another roar he will hold this beautiful, iron studded pointy leather ball into the air and call out the word that has magically appeared on its surface, "WIIIIIILLLLSONNNN!"

Re: Day 2: In the Oytwood

Bulldust blinks in surprise as Minmorc appears shrouded in mystical power and holding aloft this most unholy artifact named WIIIIIILLLLSONNNN.  After the moment passes he'll ask, "What can you do wiv vat?"

Earlier Bulldust had received the exciting news that his new black mail is magical!  Now surely he is invincible.  What's more, a potion (not the one he gave to Oopses) and his plain silver ring are also magical.  Now surely he is powerful.  He'd thanked Jurz for the good news, but asked, "What potion is it?  It was on a dead orc.  And ve ring I took from a squashed gnome ... what's it for?  Moffa said it'll get me into trouble, but I kept it anyway."

After that he'd taken a peek inside the O-baddy hut and come out scratching his ears.

He'd then spent two hours doing spear drills with Minmorc.  Not because he'd wanted to, more because he was too afraid to say he didn't.  Still he learned some useful tricks it was worth the ear bashing.  The big orc kept trying to knock the spear out of his hands, probably because he was jealous of the new spear.  Picking it up for the 27th time Bulldust muttered, "Well if you want one you should just go find you own!"  When it finally ended he went to the barn to get his bleeding ears cured by Dregz.

When he could hear again he overheard Oopses ask if the orcs would find them here. "I fink we're safe here.  Vere were only dead people living in ve village, and veir haunted cloves, and we've killed all vose, so its safe.  Minmorc and Nurzhan are scary orcs but safe.  We're going to fix ve fence so nofing else can get in, ven it'll be safe.  Ven we'll leave and go back into ve forest where its not safe and ve orcs might find us."

He spent the rest of the day digging holes for fence posts, finally something he's actually qualified for.  He dug a few extra holes because no one said when to stop.  He pointed them out to Nurzhan, "You can use vem later if you like."

Finally, after the works done he joins the others in the village.  They all seem to have found food - he'll have to learn how to do that too.  He eyes WIIIIIILLLLSONNNN suspiciously and asks, "Can we eat it?"
