Re: OOC Mk IV

My character has the same view as Yew, hence also decided that it was time for him to step in on his big 7 HP.

Also, shouldn't the dogs be fighting? We could do with something else taking some of these hits.

Re: OOC Mk IV

For my 2 cents I think they will back off if we do and we will encounter them again later.

I think we are still the superior force here and will not be pressed.  Thrommel is more than a match for them and Sven shrugged off that last blow. We could kill them all but it's a hassle for both Ronalt's player and the DM for him to die here, not to mention bad for the party. There's no guarantee another PC will be permitted to be encontered in this dungeon. It would be ridiculous if there were no consequences for a death. If we let him die our players deserve to be short handed until we escape.

Re: OOC Mk IV

Sven is also down although not completely helpless. He is however at the mercy of the bugbear standing over him.

Just before the silence and web fell, don't forget somebody yelled out that the party should either surrender of the prisoner would be killed.

Now yes, Yew and Gwythe can't see immediately what's going on with Ronalt, but they can see Sven on the ground, and did hear the earlier demand. Initiative will also play a roll - slower characters will see faster characters acting and therefore should be able to alter their actions accordingly.

Ronalt the PC can be replaced fairly quickly if the rest of the party makes certain decisions, however would a basically Good aligned party allow a comrade to be slain when there's a possible alternative?

However if you as an individual player/character which to press your attack, I'm not going to stop you, but you should be aware of the possible consequences. Yes Ronalt and Sven could be saved by quick action, but the odds aren't great.

Re: OOC Mk IV

So many different thoughts are flicking through my mind at the moment.

  • I have never understood why scriptwriters keep making the hero throw down his gun when the bad guy tells him to do it or he'll kill the hostage. Then the bad guy grins and shoots the hero instead and the hostage is not saved despite the hero's sacrifice. Take the shot, hero!
  • In this game situation, if I was playing that third bugbear it wouldn't make any sense to waste an action to kill Ronalt. He is no threat at all, at present. If Yew rushed in to attack one of my bugbear buddies it would make more sense for the bugbear to kill Yew instead! LOL
  • Would a party of heroes surrender in the hope their evil enemies will spare their lives as well as a captured comrade, or would they prefer a glorious death in battle against the forces of evil instead of some fate worse than death at the hands of an evil priest?
  • Fortunately Sven has identified another option. Truce, not surrender. Both sides withdraw and live to fight another day.

Re: OOC Mk IV

Truce or parley could be an option yes. The enemy has to be aware they're outclassed at the moment and maybe all they want is a way out while they're still breathing - killing Ronalt completely removes the one solid bargaining chip they have in hand at the moment.
All I can really say of course is there may be more going on that meets the eye.

Re: OOC Mk IV

I kept the dogs out of the fight because the doorway was already crowded the web spell had some of them held for a while. Now I'm under the effect of a silence so I can't cast, use my wand, or order the dogs in...even if the doorway weren't too crowded for them to get into the fray.

I will admit that several PC's actions make no sense to me right now, such that, as a player, I suspect charm magic or treachery.

I do have a potion that could help Ronalt but I can't get it to him. And, at present, I don't see anything else in my inventory that could serve as a "show stopper". Unless these guys REALLY want a rowboat.

Re: OOC Mk IV

Just waiting on a little clarification on something and I'll post the results of the round.
I haven't a clue what's going to happen just yet - that will depend a LOT (but not solely) on what the oppositions roll is for initiative, and I don't do that until I'm writing up the post.

Re: OOC Mk IV

Well ladies and gentlemen, after 18 months I've finally asked the rpol mods to shift me into the primary GM/game owner slot. As much as I REALLY didn't want to, it was time to acknowledge simoncraig is gone.
This makes me the third GM who's been nursing this baby and I think the only person left from day one. Hopefully I'll see this thing all the way through to the end in about 20 years or so. :/

Yes stability, is a good thing. However I agree with Tin, we're all going to die. WAAAAAAHHH. Will we get to make new characters if we all die?

Re: OOC Mk IV

If characters die then yes, I can't see why a replacement shouldn't be allowed.
HOWEVER, if they died from doing something STUPID and AVOIDABLE (unless it's in character and nobody had a chance to prevent it), they'll probably have the abilities, XP or something else I come up with somewhat penalised. In other words, do the best you can to stay alive or suffer consequences which last longer than it takes to roll up a new character.

Fair?

Been down with the flu most of the week and think can't brain good....
Should (I sooooo hope) be better in a few days when I'll be able to write a decent update. Meanwhile it's worth considering all the angles of the current event - maybe something positive will come out of it.
