Re: A1 S3: After Beads and Buns
Huruyan notices two men dressed much like yourselves with a woven chest between them, also like yours, pass near in the crowd. They have axes hung from their sides and their loin cloths have green embroidery like your's but, with a different symbol. One has a tattoo on their back in the shape of a stylized crocodile head. If he had been wearing a sash it would have been completely covered.

[Private to Huruyan:
The symbol is a brush or palm maybe? Hard to get a close look at it through the crowd.

The one in the front has their ear partially missing. The other has the tattoo.  The difference in skin color across that part of his body indicates that normally he does wear a sash.

Huruyan, spinning back around,"Kusak, quickly now, those two dressed like Kumahl and I,and with a basket like ours, run see if they are of our clan!" and Huruyan points in about the right direction.

Re: A1 S3: After Beads and Buns
Kusak rushed after them, weaving through the crowd like a bird in the trees.

He soon reaches the one with the tattoo and while you can't hear what Kusak asked, you do see him knocked to the ground. The man quickly scans the area and says something to the one leading. They move away a little faster while glancing around more often.

Kusak returns to Huruyan with a welt on his face.
"They wouldn't say what clan they were but I got a good look at their clan symbol. It is a green brush."

Huruyan takes a good look at the mark on Kusak."It doesn't look to bad but I am sorry that you were injured doing what I asked. We will just have to look into this later. Now however we must continue on. Lead on please, and rest assured you will be amply paid for all your trouble on our behalf,"and with that Huruyan gestures Kusak onward. Then turning to Kumahl," Kumahl do you know what clan would have a brush as it's symbol?"

GM:
Kusak eyed the buns and cups with longing but politely remained in the background pretending to look at other things.

Kumahl generously offers Kusak one or two of his buns.

Kumahl is too distracted by the sight of a beautiful woman nearby to notice this until Kusak zips away. "Wha?? What did you do that for?"

Kumahl looks unhappy. He fishes out a silver and gives it to the lad. "You deserved better than that from them, boy. Thank you. Lead us on to the Red Dome."

Re: A1 S3: After Beads and Buns
Kusak initially refused the offered Hlash until it was clear that Kumahl really did want him to have the silver. Then he accepted it graciously and it was clear that he was more impressed by Kumahl's stature than before.
Location 54

Kusak lead smoothly through the crowd. He made sure that he picked routes that were easier for Kumahl to navigate, even with his greater girth. For a time they followed a palanquin carried by four large obviously male slaves. As the guards in front cleared its way through the streets, it was easy to move in the wake. Eventually it turned to the right towards a beautifully decorated building with gilded bias relief on its enclosing walls and a tree shaded courtyard.
Location 35

Following Kusak you turned to the left towards an enclosure with a weathered red dome on a thick tower and garishly painted walls. You recall seeing this dome from the other side of the wall as you had approached the city. The back of the enclosure where the tower is, is part of the city's outer wall.
Location 34

Far to the right you could see the blue tower gates you had entered the city by. You were now on the other side of the huge packed plaza from them.

Re: A1 S3: After Beads and Buns
In the distant past the Tower of the Red Dome had been an imposing edifice. The dome still sat like a faded red onion atop the fat tower in the back of the enclosure. It dwarfed the central building just inside the gates.
The gates were flung open and looked like they had not been moved in years. As you arrive a chlen beast clumps its plodding way out of the gates with a heavily loaded cart in tow. The pungent smell of fresh dropping are part of your initial impression of the place. To either side of the central build is cleared space for animals to be quartered. You know that because you can see an assortment from where you are.

At the gates are several gatekeepers and they quickly evaluated you. With a slight flourish one of them greets you. He is dressed in a new kilt with a blue crescent moon pattern embroidered along the edges. His toe and finger nails are not painted but are clean.
"How may I assist you gentlemen?"

Kumahl bows politely. "It is a happy day on which I make your acquaintance. I am Kumahl, and this is Huruyan. We seek a place to stay, as our clan does not have holdings here."

"I am Benza of the Crescent Moon and welcome you to the Tower of the Red Dome."
"Many find themselves in your situation and turn to us for our renowned hospitality," he continued. "I'm sure we can find a comfortable place for ones of your stature. Do you require anything special that I should know about? Is it only the two of you that need a place to sleep?"

He pointed at several slaves squatting just inside the door with his left hand. "Two of you, help our guests with their luggage!"

Two slaves jump to their feet and move to take the handles of your trunk. They have crescent moons engraved on the chlen hide collars around their necks.

While Kumahl is speaking with the doorkeeper, Kusak whispers something to Huruyan.

[Private to Huruyan: "We have been being followed. Those men over there near the street corner we came from."
"The one with the Dark blue and gold trimmed armor and the one with the dark blue kilt and wide cone shaped hat."
"I wasn't sure before but now that they have stopped when we stopped, I'm sure of it."

Kumahl nods. "Indeed, a private place to sleep with a door would be ideal, if such is possible."

He keeps his attention on the doorkeeper and the slaves.

"Yes, certainly," said Benza with a slightly skeptical tone. "We have private rooms in the main tower itself. Naturally we will expect twice the compensation for such but, I'm sure that twenty katiar is not a concern to ones such as you."

He summons one of the other gatekeepers with his right hand, "Yanaho, come here."

Yanaho is dressed much like you. A simple embroidered loincloth with the moon motif edging. He also has no paint on his nails but his hair is well trimmed.

"Please lead on that we may see these palacial rooms we are to have, for they must be thus for so rich a sum."While negotiating with the gate guards Huruyan keeps glancing around watching them, the slaves and behind at those following."This is an interresting place, how many can stay here, if I may ask, it looks very large?"

Benza looks askance at Huruyan for a moment then back to Kumahl. "Do you want us to find proper quarters for your guardsman too or will he be staying with you?"

Yanaho answers Huruyan with a note of pride. "The Tower of the Red Dome can quarter several hundreds.
In fact, once we had an entire caravan clan and some of their beasts, as well as the crew of several ships. Even then, we still had floor space for more."

Kumahl clears his throat. "My LIEUTENANT will be staying in the private room with me, yes. Please, do lead the way"
He straightens to all of his not-too-considerable height and smiles politely through his wide features.

He says this quite seriously, though Huruyan can catch the irony in his voice.

"Ruvan'ga, register our guests," instructs Benza to another of the doorkeepers. Ruvan'ga is dressed like Yanaho but has a slightly different haircut and stained fingers. He begins writing in a tome then asks, "What was their clan name? All I heard was their personal names of Kumahl and Huruyan."

Benza queries Kumahl, "What clan name shall we register you with?"

Kusak has an anxious look on his face as everyone seems to be ignoring him as they make lodging arrangements.

"Yanaho, you will take them to the Chamber of the Alcoves of Contemplation, Qonanu will find them a private space there," directs Benza.

Kumahl bows. "Apologies, I must have not spoken with adequate valume. We are of clan Freretri."

He nods to Kusak. "Kusak, do you have a home to return to?" He says so in such a way that there is invitation to say "no" if this is the truth.

"But of course sir!" exclaims Kusak with a look of dismay. "My clan lives on the boats and one of my mothers will surely miss me if I don't return."

"I can return tomorrow if you have further need of my service," he adds after a slight pause and looking down at his empty hands.

Huruyan looks over at Kusak and says gently, "We are very satisfied with your service and will most certainly want you to return in the morning to continue to help us, don't we Kumahl?"Then Huruyan edges over to Kumahl and wispers,"Kusak noticed two people following us."He then gives to Kumahl the description Kusak had given him.

Kumahl raises an eyebrow. "Then we shall have to be very, very careful," he says.

He nods at Kusak. "We look forward to seeing you in the morning, lad." He makes sure to take the tone of a superior to an inferior to maintain required appearances while betraying a slight tone of affection. He pulls out five copper coins and gives them to the lad as his daily payment.

"We didn't actually come to an agreement as to what we would pay you Kusak, so tell me lad, what do you think is appropriate? Whatever we decide upon you will have to wait until tomorrow as we don't have change right now. You do however have that silver that Kumahl gave you for now and of course you know where we will be tomorrow morning when I hope you will return to assist us again."

Kumahl nods his agreement. "Yes, Huruyan, make it so," he says with gravity. When Kumahl is not looking, he winks at his friend.
