"I am afraid Lord Seer that we are not properly equipped for this investigation. We really need to go back and get supplies for several days. This is a remarkable find and we will need days to investigate it properly."

Upon hearing Huruyan's statement to Lord Seer. "Preservation of this site will require a structure overhead to deflect the rain otherwise we risk flooding this chamber before we can survey and look at everything."

"Cousins, come see this."  Dresu points at the strange collection of rods and tables he has partially uncovered from the mud.  "If we can clear more of this muck away, this may be of further interest."

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
In response to Huruyan's comment, "I need to contact my temple as soon as possible so that we can establish control over access to this site."

"As soon as anyone else finds out about it, it will be taken over by the Imperial government and only those authorized by the Imperial authorities will be allowed access."

"All the wonderful discoveries and where ever digging deeper would lead, will be removed from our control."

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
Dresu stood straight, his rumbling voice seeming to fill the chamber when he spoke. "Perhaps we should negotiate ownership of the information regarding this site before you send a runner, Lord Seer."  While phrased as a question, Dresu spoke it more as a statement.

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
Kumahl was glad that cousin Dresu had made his appearance when he did and couldn't agree more with his current statements.

"I will go above and survey the area. We need to find a better means to secure this find."

Approaching Dresu and in a whisper, "Cousin, I trust you will relay your findings to me."

Heading towards the ladder, Kumahl ascends the latter to begin surveying the land and terrain.

"My temple is professional at cataloging these types of things and gaining lost knowledge to use in the current day."

"Like you, Kumahl follows another God of knowledge."
"He does not seem to have an issue with turning this site over to my temple, why do you?"

"I can make the arrangements while you and your fellow clansmen continue looking for a backdoor into the necropolis."

"We feel that a discovery of this magnitude would be better handled by the temple of Ketengku, where the knowledge would be shared with others instead of hoarded away or sold to the highest bidder. I'm sure you would agree that without our steel and bravery today, you would never have know this site existed, yes?  And we both agree that simply handing this over to the Imperials will only benefit them.  So, how can our two factions leverage this site so that we all benefit?"

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
One of the men that had come with Master of the Hunt Gyesmu watched Kumahl from the relative dryness of a nearby palmetto.

While Lord Seer's palanquin remained where it had been sat, the rest of the people had left the area as far as Kumahl could tell.

Moving quietly through the surrounding woods and brush, Kumahl was able to determine that the sinkhole was at the end of a long low mound.

There are no other outstanding features. Which may be why it was not previously of interest to the locals.

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
Kumahl nods in the direction of the man watching.

Kumahl goes back to surveying the surroundings trying to determine how to use the natural features to further protect the sinkhole and disguise it. Figuring that he could have a shed built over top of the sinkhole that should prove sufficient to shed water and possibly slow the sinkhole/'s growth. He is also curious about the low mound on which he is standing.

He checks to see what plant life is growing (scrubs, grasses, trees) in the area and what kind of tree toppled over to open the sink hole.

In reply to Kumahl (msg # 141):

Huruyan turns to Lord Seer and Dresu, "I am afraid that I must agree with my cousins, this site is to important to be kept a secret, we should share the knowledge that we get from here. However right now we need to protect it." Huruyan then climbs out and consults with Kumahl,"It looks like we will need to cover the hole to protect it from the weather and other people. Do you know what we will need to do that?"

"I'm sure some understanding can be arranged between the temples of knowledge however, the more that are involved, the more likely word will get out."
"Once that happens the Imperial government will step in and seize control."

"This will be a multi-year project and will be big enough for all of our temples to gain valuable knowledge."

"I can take the lead and get things started quietly, if you agree."
"Your temples are not known for keeping things to themselves and represent the most likely leak of secrecy."
"I can make arrangements for them to be included once things are under wraps."

"This waystation has two issues. First, if the villagers keep getting sacrificed to the Hungry Maw, this village will fall into disarray and disrepair. This will draw the attention of the Imperium eventually."

"The second comes from the discovery and recovery of the items below. The waystation will be drawing Imperium attention a lot quicker as organizations flock to this location to get a piece of the action. The Waystation will bloom under the influx of business."

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
Dresu watched his other cousin climb back out of the pit, leaving him with the Lord Seer.  "Lord Seer," he continued, "Speaking as a representative of the temple of Ketenkgu, I don't feel fully comfortable with letting your temple take sole ownership of this site currently.  There's too much potential for unscrupulous lower-ranking members to take advantage of the arrangement and strip the site of valuable items before the other temples can get involved."

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
"I'm not sure what valuable items there are that could be stripped away."
"What we have found so far couldn't be moved and will need to be studied here."

"While I'm sure the followers of Ketenkgu could do a good job of investigating this site, I don't believe that they could keep it under wraps."

"In past cases, the squabbling between temple factions and the Imperial authorities has done more to destroy information than to collect it."

"In fact like a puzzle, pieces turn up missing and the whole picture is never put together."
"I would like to avoid that."

In reply to Lord Seer Epengar (msg # 149):

Huruyan gathers his cousins and Lord Seer together, "How about we table this for now and get the supplies we need. Then get rid of the Hungry Maw, because until we  do that we can't investigate this city properly? When it is dead then we can figure out how to divide this up and who to tell about it."

Re: A5 S3: A Bitter Pill
While Dresu talked with Lord Seer, Kumahl and Huruyan stood near the tall palm that had uprooted and exposed the pit.

Kumahl was sure that he could engineer a thatch style hut over the pit with palm fronds and saplings from nearby.

The fifty foot mound had stunted trees along it that could be cut down if needed.

Anything that would be cut down would draw attention. Kumahl hunts for the fallen and dead fall from palm trees and such. Figure the wet stuff will dry over time so Kumahl is not concerned about wet or dry material.

Dresu finds Huruyuan and Kumahl, supervising the servants working on the covering hut.

"Cousins," he says softly, "We may be losing track of why we came here.  Preserving the site is a good idea, but we haven't made any progress on finding a path to the Hungry Maw.  We should wrap this up quickly and get back to the task at hand."
