Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
The boar continues to run sluggishly, as if not excessively concerned about the humans chasing it.

Round 2, only Kelar gets to act! The boar has been rolling as bad as everyone else. Go ahead and declare your action, Kelar.

Everyone roll Ride checks as well for the next round.

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
Unfortunately this seems to galvanize the boar, which dodges out of the way.

Rolled a 5 for the boar, sadly.

Cyrus, Hywel, roll your Ride checks.

The boar, now a bit worried, picks up the pace...

Hywel and Jereth can act! The boar acts, too, but after you; Jereth gets to act twice.

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
Hywel snap-throws another javelin as the boar races past.  As the missle sails harmlessly by the target, the dwarf curses and tries to turn after.  Once again though, the horse has different ideas.  Yet more cursing, "You people do this for fun?  Humans....bah..."

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
With a quick shot, Aldern sends an arrow through the brain of the beast and sends it falling to the ground. The rest of the party slides to a halt.

"Well done heroes, well done! Most impressive! I thank you for joining me."

He continues to chat in engaged fashion with the rest of the party for the ride back and seems quite sad when the party departs. Several in the party feel sure he'll be calling again.

Later in the day, though, Kelar and the rest of the group are just returning when the group is approached by a friend of Kelar's, Amelah Barrett. Clutching her baby girl Verah to her chest, she moves up to Kelar, sobbing. Clinging to the back of her skirt is Aeren, her 4-year-old son.

"Kelar! Kelar! Help me!" She is hysterical.

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
Cyrus silently thanked the spirits, the gods, and their host that the ordeal of the hunt was over. He was both amazed and embarrassed by his riding performance. Considering he had never ridden before, he did pretty well, until he got overconfident, that is.

OOC: This accurately describes my personal experience with downhill skiing.

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
Hywel walks back with the others.  Though with a strange, uncomfortably looking pasce.  At least his mood seems to have improved the further he gets from the horses.  "I enjoy a good boar hunt as much as the next dwarf," offered the wizard with an exasperated grin, "But all that riding about is unnecessary.  All you really need is a spear and a few dogs.  Then you....". He trails of as the frightened woman comes running up.  While Kelar questions, Hywel looks over the area.  A hand falls to a belt axe.... In case the goblins have returned...

All of you give me Persuasion checks--you can decide to make one person the primary "speaker of soothing words" and Aid him, or make your own rolls. Entirely up to you.

Normally, Cyrus would step up, but she had asked for Kelar specifically. It would be rude to butt in, but he certainly will back up his friend.

21:58, Today: Cyrus Weaver rolled 10,3 using d6+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8,1. Persuation.

As Kelar seems out of his depth, Hywel offers, in his kindest tone, "If we give her but a moment, I am sure this lady can find her calm". Addressing the frightened lady and children directly, "You and your children are safe amongst us now.  But, we need to know what troubles you so, when you are able, hm?"

9:37, Today: Hywel of Clan Silverscroll rolled 10,5 using d4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (4+4+2)10,5. Persuade Assist

Cyrus places one hand on the woman's shoulder and the other on Kelar's. "Here, sit down," he said before gently guiding her to a spot where she could get off her feet. He smiled at her son as he sat down next to her and said, "You're safe here. Please, tell us what's troubling you so."

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
Alergast and Amele Barett are a typical Sandpoint family, with two children (little Aeren and baby Verah) and a loyal family dog named Petal. They were present at the Swallowtail Festival, where Aeren saw a goblin light a cat on fire and then caper around the burning remains—the poor boy really hasn’t been the same since. Every night, his howls of terror send Petal into a barking fit, and when his parents investigate, Aeren claims a goblin came out of his closet. Alergast checked the closet dutifully but found nothing, and ever since the kid’s complaints about the “closet goblin” have grown more and more tiresome to his parents. Yesterday, Alergast threatened to make Aeren sleep in the woodshed if he couldn’t learn to “be a man” and sleep through an entire night without crying and telling stories. Last night, Alergast didn’t go to soothe Aeren when he had his night terrors. But then, a few moments later, they heard poor Petal cry out in pain and Aeren’s screams turn shrill. This time Aeren wasn’t just having nightmares. Amele pauses, takes a breath, and then shows the PCs Aeren’s arms. They’re covered with fresh goblin bites.

When Alergast burst into the room,he found a goblin crouched on his son’s chest. Petal was dead, a knife deep inhis ear, and the goblin was frantically trying to chew off Aeren’s arm. Alergast attacked the goblin and chased it back intothe closet, where it clambered into a hole it had cleverly hidden under an old fur. Alergast flew into a rage, and as he started tearing apart the closet in an attempt to get at the goblin, Amele panicked and fled the house with her children to seek out Kelar for aid.

"Can you please come right away to help us?" she pleads.

Cyrus grew increasingly alarmed as Amele told her tale. "We'd best hurry, then!" he said to the others. "But first," he paused and checked the boy's arm.

22:43, Today: Cyrus Weaver rolled 2,5 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,5.
Just doing a quick check to see if the boy needs proper healing.

Cyrus is able to give the boy first aid and prevent the bites from causing lasting damage.

Do all of you go to investigate, or is there anything you want to ask/do before you go?

Re: Chapter 2: Local Heroes!
"Damn these greenskins to the Deep Pit..." growled Hywel, grinding his boot into the dirt in frustration.  Glancing up to Jereth, he added, "The Watch'll need to know about this.  Warn folk". Back to the others, especially the mother, "Which way to your house, good woman?"
