Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
On the way their, Kelar slows down, thinking.  "What if this is a trap?  Maybe we should tell someone where we are going?  What we are doing, and why?"

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
Jereth felt that his comment was ignored, but then Kelar ended up saying it "I do want to help. If anyone from this town is in danger I'll be the first one to face the threat, but it doesn't mean to risk ourselves for nothing. I agree with Kelar that we should tell someone. Maybe not the why, though I find it difficult to hide, but defitely where. Just in case."

"Should have said something to Eleanor while we were in the shop." Kelar mutters.

OOC I assume Bethana is no longer with us?  And the sheriff and apparently everyone else in town who knows anything about combat is out of town?

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
"It's not a trap. I trust Bethana," Cyrus said confidently. "She knows where we went." He did not have any reason for trusting her, but he had developed a habit of trusting everyone until they proved unworthy of that trust. It was the quickest path to being trusted himself.

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
Hywel cleared his throat a bit to call some attention down to himself, "Who to tell?  Afraid we are it for the moment gentlemen.  Perhaps we split up when we get there?  Some remain outside for the initial search, thus remaining outside any possible traps".

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
"Bethana may be trustworthy.  Perhaps the note was planted.  Perhaps she was magically manipulated.  Fools charge in where angels fear to tread" Kelar quoted.

As they continue on their way, Kelar spots a local lad.  "Ho, Gerold!  Can you run a message to the missus?  Tell her I'm going to pick up those glass flasks she asked me about from the glassworks, and I'll bring them by in an hour.  Tell her I said you could have a licorice strip, you and your friends."

OOC: I figure Eleanor is smart enough to figure that out, particularly me giving a pack of kids free candy is a bit out of character

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
"Why would they want to trap us?  Unless you think the will be another attack on the town again?" Martak's eyes open wide in alarm. He shows true concern if something was to happen while the caretakers were sidetracked.

"Yes, one hour, we should be back that soon.  Nothing bad can happen in one hour, right?"

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
After the boys have left, Kelar replies to Martak.  "They apparently attacked the town to take the body.  They must have some ... plot, or plan.  IF they are watching the town, they might know the guardsman have left.  They might seek to eliminate us, the only defenders this town has left."

"Or it's something else entirely. Speculation gets us nowhere. We should be getting to the Glassworks and find out for sure." Cyrus walked in his normal, slow limping pace toward the Glassworks.

"And we are.  Speaking of which, what is the plan?  Kick the door down weapons ready?  Scout it out first?"

"Walking through the doors with weapons at hand?" Cyrus shrugged. "Scouting is fine, for those skilled at such things. I am not."

"Yeah, I'm not so good at scouting things out myself," Martak says letting his large feet thump loudly on the ground.  "I'll enter with Cyrus, me and Maurice should be able to handle things," he says patting his greataxe that he seems so fond of.

"Scouting doesn't have to be sneaking around."  Kelar points out.  "I could go in saying I need some flasks for the store."

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
Jereth didn't say anything abou scouting stealthly, his loud armor was already proving his silence, but Kelar's last idea seemed reasonable "I believe that's the best thing, I could also approach as a town's guard looking for volunteers or making a 'regular checkout'. Perhaps one of us could go all the way around while one is distracting the front door"

Hywel nods lightly to the idea, "Fine enough... So, two groups.  One to make the guard inquiry with Jereth, the other to search around back.  I'll go with Jereth.". Glancing at the others, he considered for a moment, "Maybe Cyrus as well.  Leaves Kelar and... Martak was it?...for the reconnaissance."

Okay, first, need Kelar and Martak to make Stealth rolls.

Cyrus, which group are you going with?

Cyrus sticks close to Jereth. The "grand entrance," may need the kind of backup he can provide. The only thing he could do with the stealthy group is get in their way.

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
The group heads out to the glassworks and reaches it some twenty minutes later. Smoke still pours from the smokestack of the sizeable building, but there is curiously no foot traffic to or from the glassworks right now.

While Kelar and Martak move around stealthily, Jereth, Cyrus and Hywel move to the front entrance and find it locked....

What do all of you do?

Semi OOC: I assume we continue around to the back until we either see or hear anything.  In particular a back door, or scene of death, destruction, and carnage

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
Hywel steps back from the door after finding it locked.  Taking a moment, he peers at said locking mechanism, then whispers to Jereth, " I had an uncle that was rather fond of locks and puzzles....   I could try to disable it, if you like?  Or...we could just knock.  We are meant to be on patrol after all."  Other than this quiet inquiry, the wizard does his best to look official-like in his guard capacity.  In case anyone might be looking.

Re: Chapter 3: Grim News from Mosswood
Jereth frowns at the locked door. He then whispers back to Hywel "Well, I believe we don't have to be as sneaky as the others. I guess I'll just knock, it may even help them to not draw attention."

He clears his throat, knocks three times and say "Town's guard, please open the door!"
