(20:12, Today: Silvijabella rolled 2,2 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2.  Notice check for 'Bella - hear down hall?

So 'Bella might be sneaking up too in order to hear what's going on!)

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth eyed Tanlis narrowly as the druid went past him without explanation.  Being that his ten count had already been reached and Tanlis' ascent made it meaningless anyway, the guardsman charged for the top of the steps.  Being that he was rather armed and armored, he wasn't particularly quiet about anything  and didn't really feel like he was supposed to be.  His job was to reach the top as quickly as possible.

Notice - 8.

I feel like the 10 count is up, so Jereth is just heading for the top.  No sneakin'.

12:51, Today: Jereth rolled 2,8 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,(6+2)8. Notice!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
With Jereth's charge up the stairs, 'Bella inquisitively followed, remaining a respectful distance behind the swordsman so as not to be in his way when he started swinging.

(Probably staying about 10' behind Jereth, but not rushing so quickly that she can't be  silent...  Tanlis would be ahead of her, if not still beyond Jereth..)

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Aradhel:
"You will do no such thing on your best day, I didn't even hit you with the edge.  You have some nerve, intruding in this place where you do not belong, accusing me of making a mistake when you come on the heels of murdering ogres via a cursed artifact.  I congratulate you though, that's an impressive showing.  But if you speak I will speak.  If you fight, I will fight."

The woman nods to Aradhel. "I might say the same for your overconfidence, but we can make it a moot point. Please tell the loud person coming up the stairs to stand down as well and we will talk."

She stands back and watches Jereth head up, who sees the aristocratic woman at the center of the room staring at him expectantly.

She does not seem to notice or pay heed to Tanlis or Bella.

You all can hear the conversation now; her comment was directed to Aradhel.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
In reply to The Runelord (msg # 854):

Tanlis put a finger in front of his lips as he looked at Bella, and then he refocused on the woman. He prepared a single gesture, not summoning his tree golem just yet. He was waiting until the time for speech was over and the time of combat would begin.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

As soon as Jereth reached a point where he could see the lack of a fight going on, he slowed and took the last few steps at a more careful pace.  His shield stayed in front of him, his blade hovering over the top edge like a ready spearpoint.  From behind this bulwark, the guardsman seconded, "Agreed.  I will only attempt to kill you if she decides you should die.  Teamwork."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
'Bella nodded at Tanlis' gesture and crept up in the shadows just a wee bit in order ro get a glimpse of the mysterious woman confronting Aradhel and Jereth.   Her shapely lips curled into a slight smirk at the swordsman's rejoinder, but at least his heart was in the right place.

She inhaled slowly, taking in the scents and noting any prominent fragrqnces or notable changes from the last time they were in the bell tower.

The Gypsy hoped they would be able to avoid further bloodshed and that discourse with the stranger might provide additional insight as to who was behind the incursion into Rannick.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
The woman looks pleased and folds her hands politely. "You are capable warriors and intrepid adventurers, I see. I assume you were sent to free this place from the ogres who took it. Well done, well done. My master, Mokmurian, would be delighted to make your acquaintance. He has many uses for capable adventurers such as yourself. I assume there were more than just the two of you? May I facilitate such an introduction for you?"

Notice checks for each person in the party.

Tanlis frowned as the woman spoke. He turned and whispered to Bella. "Our friend was killed by magic...and she could be the source." He said.

19:28, Today: Aradhel rolled 2,1 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,1.  Elfy Notice.

Noooo Aradhel's elf powers fail her!

Jereth kept a wary, narrowed eye on the "woman" over the rim of his shield.  He didn't have much to add.....till she answered Aradhel's very important question...

02:35, Today: Jereth rolled 1,4 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,4. Notice!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
The woman frowns. "Good heavens, why would you jump to that conclusion? I certainly did not say that. He knows this place was taken by ogres, certainly. He takes great interest in the happenings in this region. If you speak with him, he could explain more and explain what he was planning to do about the ogres, among other things."

Notice checks for Aradhel and Jereth (NOT for Bella and Tanlis).

Meanwhile, things are happening on the stairs.

"Let's presume for a moment you speak the truth, I'm inclined to believe it is possible given your conduct thus far.  Now put yourself in my position.  How am I to come to believe this is true?"

Aradhel asked.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
'Bella looked back to see what was approaching, expecting a member of the Black Arrows, but her hand slipped towards her blades just in case.

There was no guarantee Kaven's killer was the woman in the room above... she mused internally, ..or that she was alone...

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Jereth, couched behind his shield, maintained his suspiciousness.  Though this time, he added to Aradhel's questioning, "You have to admit, from where we stand, it is a bit hard to believe you had no part in any of this.  That's like catching two thieves in a house, but one swears he was really there to help me catch the other thief.  It creates a lack of trust when you show up where you aren't supposed to be. The dead bodies don't help either."

14:10, Today: Jereth rolled 5,1 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,1. Hooman Notice!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
The woman laughs a silvery laugh, but then her voice grows cold. "Oh, I can see you are going to be difficult about this. The polite thing to do would be to entertain my offer to speak with my master, but I can see that you are uncouth. I leave you the next option, then: back down the stairs, past my servant there, speaking the password 'Lucrecia Permits, Kaven' to the one you find there. You will be allowed to pass, take what remains of the Black Arrows and leave alive. You have thirty seconds to do so."

Kaven is the man you found dead.

Meanwhile, nothing comes up the stairs further toward Tanlis and 'Bella.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
In reply to The Runelord (msg # 869):

Tanlis seems enraged. He adds two and two together quickly. "She is a foul necromancer! She killed and enslaved Kaven! She is an aberration of nature!" He hissed to Bella, fury obvious on his face. He gestured and summoned the tree golem, not where he had initially planned but directly behind the evil sorercess.

ooc-12:49, Tue 03 Sept: Tanlis Half-elven rolled 2,10 using 1d10,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,(6+4)10.  Spellcasting .

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Alarmed, 'Bella looked to see if Kaven was still at the bottom of the stair, or if he had moved off towards where the Black Arrows rested.  If she had raised Kaven, then might the Ogres also be fodder for her foul arts?

She whispered her concern to Tanlis, "If he has gone after the Black Arrows... they were not fully awake and may not suspect.  Plus, what of the Ogres'?  Could she do the same to them?"

The woman's face grows dark as she sees Tanlis utter words of power, but she is truly and duly distracted as a tree golem appears before her!

Your golem can attack her if you like. Then, she comes off Hold.
