Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth gave a nod of agreement to the men, drawing his sword again to demonstrate his ready-and-willingness.  But, he also pointed to the tunnel Aradhel was scouting and whispered, "We need to wait for our scout's signal before moving forward."

Aradhel noted the position and returned.

"More of those lizards ahead.  I didn't see a particularly great approach, but we can at least establish a line of battle and try to lure them into it with a distraction."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth shrugs and half-grins at the mention of a distraction/lure, "Well.  That sounds like my job.  Lead on and establish your line.  I'll bring the guests."

In reply to Aradhel (msg # 96):

"I can call more water to cause their own lighting to be used against them. From what I know of these beasts, when more than one are next to each other-they can hurl their lighting as ranged weapons." Tanlis points out.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
"Which means we need to close in... all right, the pathway isn't completely straight.  We go to the crook of the bend, set a battle line, and... one of you make a noise to lure them out."  Aradhel suggested.  It wouldn't give them The Drop but she didn't want to get in a shooting war with a lightning lizard regardless.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth gave his assent to Tanlis, "Yes.  Do that.  We'll likely need every edge."  With a glance to everyone to check readiness, the guardsman began moving into the tunnel to the appointed bend.  As he went, he whispered to Tanlis, "They can...throw the lightning as well?  Nature can be very unfair at times."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
In reply to Jereth (msg # 100):

"First of all, I am not sure those lizards where not 'tinkered with' by mages. Secondly, whoever said nature was fair? Cats hunt mice-does that sound fair to the mice?" Tanlis smirked. "Besides, nature does not have a mind to have morality in the first place. Only gods do-and they are very, very, VERY unfair indeed. At least nature imparts its power to druids in order to interact with intelligent beings. It does not have to do that." He pointed out.

"Wonderful discussion.  Now grab a handful of pebbles and let's do this."  Aradhel replied with some impatience.  The lizards wouldn't stay there forever.

OOC
17:52, Today: Archimedes Fallows rolled 2,23 using D8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,(6+6+6+5)23.  Weird science roll

Archimedes lost himself in his weird scrbbling on his parchment preoccupied he didn't pay much attention to the others until they started to move out of the cave and into the tunnel. Grabbing some of the small bottles he followed after them, he was sure he was onto something with his goo shooter and the sleeping potions

Archimedes has a VERY good idea for the potions. And he has an idea.

Everyone else, please describe how your characters line up and what you're planning on doing.

Aradhel moved up to the point she had picked, gesturing Jereth to come with and for the others to lag behind just a bit.

She showed them the hand signal she planned to use beforehand.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Tanlis finds whatever cover he can, and prepares to summon the water against any group of two or more lizards that stay out of the coming melee. He might be able to short them out without worrying about frying any of his friends before the two or more lizards hurl the lightning.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Archimedes clicked the last of the reconfigured parts into his gunk thrower and slipped one of the little bottles into it pulling back the release mechanism and priming the weapon.

With a whisper he tried to describe what he'd done in simple terms to the others

"I've recalibrated my weapon to fire the sleep potions it will break on impact covering an area close to the target anyone within that area will be effected" he had a big grin on his face like a child who'd just walked into a sweet shop

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth took his position at the indicated spot and motioned for the Rannick men to take up helpful spots in the "line".  Shalelu, he felt, would do what she wanted and would take offense at him making any suggestions.  So he didn't.  Upon hearing Archimedes idea, Jereth just nods and hands the inventor his small store of vials.  To the rest, he whispered, "Let them come to us.  Tanlis has the first shot as the arrive."  He then signals his readiness to Aradhel.

Archimedes took the offered bottles and stored them in his pouch "should I fire at them to before they get too close might help if some are asleep before they are upon us" he whispered to Jereth

Jereth looked concerned at the idea, whispering, "Tight quarters in here.  If you can be sure it won't come back on us, then fire away.  Be sure."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
It doesn't matter, Aradhel could do it so long as she has her hand back on her sword before they arrive.  But I had imagined one of the "back line" could do it so the front line would be set.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

When he gets a good sense that everyone is as ready as they may be, Jereth begins scraping and tapping his sword against his shield.  Loud enough to make a curious noise, but, hopefully, not an alarming noise.

Sorted!  Hope that's fine, because I can't take it back.

That brings up initiative!

Archimedes gets the Black Joker--you get +2 to all rolls including spellcasting, attack and damage rolls.

Both Archimedes and Aradhel can prepare actions before the lizards come out. Roll your rolls when you declare your prepared actions.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Aradhel will Hold and then Interrupt, here's the Agility check:

13:31, Today: Aradhel rolled 7,9 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,(6+3)9.  Interrupt Agility Check.

Aradhel stuck to the plan, waiting for the lizard to come within range for her to pounce on it in melee.

And when that happens... well not much.  Main sword hit only a 5 parry, which I think is a miss against these.

Offhand sword hits a Parry of 9 but only for 9 damage.  Well they can't all be winners.

13:34, Today: Aradhel rolled 5,4 using d8,d8, rerolling max with rolls of 5,4.  Damage.

13:34, Today: Aradhel rolled 9,3 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 9,3.  Left Hand.

13:33, Today: Aradhel rolled 3,5 using d12+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 2,4.  Right Hand.

Archimedes launches one of his new sleep-bombs past the lizards to the space beyond...

Trying to target any beyond the first couple that emerge.
22:16, Today: The Runelord, on behalf of Archimedes Fallows, rolled 6,4 using 1d8,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 6,4.  Weird Science.
