Escape From The Kyln
Situated near the energy cascade known as The Crunch, the Kyln is a MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON FACILITY that houses some of THE MOST DANGEROUS INMATES IN KNOWN SPACE.  Staffed by an inter-stellar police force known as the Omega Core, the moons of the Kyln harness the MASSIVE ENERGY OUTPUT of the Crunch and provide power to more than two hundred planetary systems.

The death rate of the prison facility is close to 100% and inmate life expectancy is less than 3 years.  Prisoners are injected with nano-sentinels which cause paralysis or death if a prisoner attempts to escape.

For whatever reason, you've come here to the very edge of the universe.

Escape From The Kyln
Ben stares out the viewport.  The Crunch, he decides, may not be the most impressive thing he's ever seen, but it's got to be in the top twenty.  After a moment, he turns to one of the guards along the corridor.

"Okay, I get that youse guys tap that for energy.  But who's all the pilgrimy types hangin' around?"

He nods to a pair of robed aliens speaking in hushed tones as they traverse the corridor.

Escape From The Kyln
With the critical and appraising eye of law-enforcement types everywhere, further enhanced by the dual rows of eyes that the alien possesses, he gives Ben an appraising once-over before shrugging.  "Dunno.  They've always been here though, even before this place was a prison.  It's got some sorta religious significance to 'em I guess."

He looks at The Crunch with the eyes of someone who's seen it every day for years, but never really looked at it.  "I guess it is pretty impressive...."  His face quickly hardens back into that of a stoic lawman and he stalks off to approach a group of prisoners who are apparently not moving along fast enough for his taste.  "Alright, move it you flarkin' scum!  This ain't no resort!"

Escape From The Kyln
Gamora is the reason for the group of prisoners slowing down. She has managed to corner a large blue skinned make biped with long white hair. His hair and the shadows always seem to obscure his face. Sensing a fight, the rest of the prisoners have formed a circle around the two of them. "I said Drax! Where is he? Don't try to play stupid. I can smell him on you! "

+1 xp for asking about the prisoner I'm here for

Escape From The Kyln
Seeing that the altercation is a fight, the approaching Omega Corpsman hangs back to watch himself.  The prisoner tries to put on a brave face, but soon realizes who he's facing.  He looks to the crowd and finding no help there, blurts out.  "I don't know where he went lady!  The ward boss said that someone came and loaded him up on a transport and took him away."  He plucks at the prison clothes.  "He left these, so I took 'em cause they fit!"

Realizing that he needs to put on a fiercer face, he snarls.  "Why don't ya go ask him, skeeze?  I'm sure he and his boys can take care of ya better than your old boyfriend!"

Escape From The Kyln
Ben turned to watch the guard approach the altercation.  As the crowd parts enough for him to get a clear view, he recognizes the green-skinned woman at the center of it all.

"Gamora?"

He hadn't seen her since the last time he'd duked it out with Thanos.

Escape From The Kyln
Gamora had her arm cocked back in preparation of punching the prisoner that has just insulted her when Thing walked up. "lucky you another dance partner wants to cut in. " she tells the prisoner in front of her.

Keeping half her attention on the other prisoner, she turns to Thing and smiles playfully. " By the Goddess. The Thing! Big, orange, and rock hard. I'm not a big fan of orange, but two out of three ain't bad." she says winking. "so what brings you to the edge of the universe? You and the other three on another big mission?"

"Hadda get away from things for a bit.  Ran into Star-Lord and we're here because word is Moodragon has a line on the Sphinx.

"Petey figured out she was here..  He's around somewhere trying to be all subtle."

He smiles at her.

"So what's a nice kid like you doin' in a dump like this?"

Escape From The Kyln
Ive been here enough for ten lifetimes*, he says. Id just as soon do our business and get out of here. He looks around as casually as possible, scanning for potential exits and enemies and possibly, hopefully, bald chicks.  Ive seen more impressive stuff on the back of Uranus, he says, looking at his compatriots. What?

Escape From The Kyln
"Moondragon? What a lucky girl to have two of the galaxy's most daring heroes pursuing her. If I shaved my head, would you give me attention like that?" she says with a fake pout. "Maybe we can help each other out. I happen to be looking for her father, Drax. Some coincidence, huh? Locust here tells me the ward boss just loaded him on a transport outta here. I'm not exactly at liberty to check on that must pf right now, so maybe you two fellas coild?"

Escape From The Kyln
Moondragon, meanwhile, has learned for herself that Drax is no longer aboard the prison. Her irritation at having wasted her time is only compounded when she notices Quill trying to get her attention.

Maybe if I ignore him, he'll go away...

Escape From The Kyln
Rocket walked in cuffs, followed by the lumbering tree-like creature only known as Groot. Granted the cuffs where not needed due to the nanite injections-but they had put them on Rocket anyways. Granted, he had been very unpleasent to the guards, the judge, and basically anyone in the room when he had been sent to the Kyln.

"Yeah, yeah. You anit NEVER gonna help me here long. Take a good, long look losers! Because this furry butt is gonna be parked someplace a lot more pleasant any day now!"

"I am Groot?"

"Yeah, I know anywhere but here is more pleasant! Come on, look though, bud! We gotta make a...good impression on the locals." He smirked at those looking at the duo.

Escape From The Kyln
Wanting to restore some semblance of his authority, the Corpsman steps up between Ben, Star-Lord and Gamora.  "Hey, like I said, this ain't no resort.  You wanna talk to a prisoner, you've gotta go through Administration."  He points towards a nearby doorway while smirking at Star-Lord.  "You know where everything is, right Quill?"

Escape From The Kyln
In reply to Rocket Raccoon (msg # 12):

Rocket notices a few familiar faces as a small crowd begins to form around him and Groot.  The guards take a few steps back, seemingly content to let the prisoners "welcome" Rocket and Groot to the Kyln.

A man who is obviously the ringleader for this little band steps forward and sneers.  "Hey, they didn't say that we wuz gonna hafta share quarters with rodents."  His sneer turns to a toothy grin.  "Thas' okay though.  I got me a recipe for rodents..."

Escape From The Kyln
"Indeed." Gamora agrees, raising her eyebrows. "Maybe we can make things a little more interesting. Cover my back?" she adds with a mischievous smile and a little butt-wag after she turns around. She gives the guard a challenging look and steps into circle with Rocket and Groot. If Drax was already gone, she didn't have a whole lot of reason to continue to stick around here, and would just as soon get the escape going. Or at least kick some butt.

She asks the one mouthing off about eating Rocket in a mocking voice loud enough for the whole crowd to hear, "Tell me, Dugout, are you going to eat the raccoon before or after you make sweet love to Locust over there?" She pets Rocket's head and makes eye contact with him before turning back to Dugout and sticking out her lower lip in a pout. "He's such a small snack, but then you're such a small man, so I guess it works."

In reply to Kyln Prisoners (msg # 15):

"I am GROOT!" The tree creature bellowed, now making sure to put his large frame between Rocket and Dugout. The various spiky plant bits growing from his shoulders and arms clearly demonstrating his displeasure.

"Back off, you furless freak!" Rocket snarled at the gang leader. "I am just about ready to let Groot here shove and grow tubers up your fracking nose! And I will find it SO entertaining-I might not even make him stop if you don't tell me where Drax is right now!" The tiny mammal pointed a furry paw at the man.

Ben shoulders his way into the crowd.  When he reaches Dugout, he drapes a friendly arm over his shoulder.

"Now, I gotta tell ya that I don't know the raccoon, here, but he seems to not be the reasonable sort.  Same for the tree.

"But I do know the green babe, an' she definitely ain't as friendly and kind-hearted as me.  In fact, I'd say you are probably only minutes away from tastin' parts of your anatomy that you ain't never really wanted to taste.

"Unless, a course, you make the decision to talk this out in a friendly fashion."

Escape From The Kyln
Five minutes with these people, and a brawl is just about to break out. I suppose this was inevitable. But Moondragon doesn't intend to waste time with pointless violence. Her lips thin as she reaches into Dugout's mind and starts altering things to make him more amenable to the Thing's suggestions.

Escape From The Kyln
If I've met Moondragon: "So, Moondragon, your dad. Drax. Where is he?"
If I've never met Moondragon: "Hey, Moondragon, I'm Star-Lord. So, your dad. Drax. Where is he?"
Either: With Moondragon clearly concentrating on something in Dugout's direction, Star-Lord can let his attention wander. "Or, uh..."

This information-gathering gambit could work but the distraction it also serves as looks like it might not be necessary.

Moondragon shuts out Star-Lord's chattering and focuses all her formidable attention on Dugout. As she expected, the man's mind is weak and barren, requiring no finesse at all to manipulate.

Team d6 (I assume that's appropriate even though I'm not really "with" these guys yet)
Haughty Attitude d4 (rearranging someone's mind for her own convenience)
Telepathy d12
Psych Master d10

18:48, Today: Moondragon rolled 2,10,5,4 using d12,d10,d6,d4.  Moondragon uses telepathy.

Total 15 with a d12 effect die, and +1 PP for Haughty Attitude. The 2 does count as an opportunity because of her Tainted by the Dragon limit.

Re: Escape From The Kyln
Dugout's whole demeanor changes suddenly as he turns to Ben and Gamora.  "You know what, you're absolutely right.  I see now that what I said was rude and I'm sorry."  He actually begins to tear up a little.  "I've got problems with strong women ever since my Mom threw me outta the nest for stealin' from my litter mates."  He stoops down to be on Rocket's level.  "And I'm sorry for what I said to you, little fella.  Truth is you look kinda like my pet Sk'rrl that I had when I was a pouchling."  He spreads his arms.  "You wanna hug it out, little guy?"

The rest of his band looks at his display of weakness aghast, backing away as if worried that whatever came over him is infectious.

[OOC:  I'll take the Opportunity.  +1 PP to Moondragon and I'll bump up one of the Doom Pool dice.]
