What other abilities has Kraik demonstrated to you?  How did you know he was a witch?

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 802):

"I... because he can fly.  Men can't fly, only witches can do that."

The archer furrows his brow.

"Anything else... I... I don't know.  Maybe he can steal souls.  Do you think?"

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to GM (msg # 803):

Titus rubs his face with his hand.

You just said you had never seen him fly before, but you knew he was a witch.  So this is the first time you have ever seen him do anything witchy?

What is Kraik's position in your company?

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 804):

"He flew before... what I meant was it all started a few days ago.  He's one of the boss' favorites, takes out raiding parties on his own most of the time and walks around like he owns the place when the boss is out."

The archer shrugs.

"Most of the boys like him well enough, if someone had to replace the boss, it could be him.  Or maybe Longwalker, that's another of the boss' favorites."

In reply to Uldaf Asbjorn (msg # 806):

"The Boss?"  The archer asks.  "He's... well he's the boss.  Most of the other lads just call him that but his name is... I think it's Erlich.  Almost nobody calls him that, but I think the Miller did once.... or maybe it was someone else."

The Nor sits down carefully and watches the proceedings with a mixture of indifference and anger.

Enrei sits down next to the Nor and tries to have a conversation about the trials and tribulations of immigration.  It is fairly one-sided.

In reply to Enrei Omal'i (msg # 808):

Enrei rambles on for a bit and the man listens patiently, and with some interest.

After a moment or so he shrugs his shoulders, but makes no reply.

In reply to GM (msg # 809):

What kind of jobs would Elrich have you do?  Where has your band gone in past and what have they taken when they went there?

...and why do you have him?

He points at the trussed up demonspeaker, the ice returning to his voice.

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 810):

"I... why?" Theo seems utterly perplexed by the questions.

"We keep tabs on the lands, collect tolls from people who pass through, or those who live here sometimes....sometimes things get rough when people don't want to pay.  Everything we take goes back to the Boss, he splits it up so as all get a share."

He looks at the demonspeaker.

"He's one of us is why... I don't LIKE demons but I don't LIKE horses either.  We use what we have."

"Sure," Theo offers, clearly near as intimidated by Enrei as by the bear that is now Uldaf.  "Mercenaries."

Titus assumes the indulgent 'am I not merciful' voice of a nobleman who is about to in no way do you a favor.

So now, lets give you a purely hypothetical situation... and were to let you go.  What would you do?

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to GM (msg # 815):

Correct answer.  What direction is Elrich's camp?

Orim, do you have any questions for our guest?  If not bind him like the Nor and leave them with Henry.  As our local expert I would have you interrogate the demonspeaker as to the nature of his activity as opposed to some of the other activity we have investigated since... the initial event.

I am curious as to why he was in the process of summoning a demon with no one around.

Titus waits for Theo's answer and then turns dismissively saying the rest as he is walking towards the demonspeaker.

"To the East of here m'lord, more than a day's ride likely.  It's in the base of the mountains."

The demonspeaker lies on his back, breathing slow shallow breaths.  There is a thin trickle of blood drying on his temple.

Then bind him.  I will with hold my judgement.  However his compliance has been noted.

He looks to Uldaf.

How long will he be out?

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 819):

Uldaf shrugs plaintively

I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a concussion from the thumping Yggy put on him. In fact, it's altogether terrible for him to be asleep in his current condition.

Which is precisely why I gave him something to render him unconscious.

Uldaf shoots a withering glare at the two remaining men

As Titus has indicated, his compliance has been noted. I'd expect to start hearing him from in garbles in another few hours. At least half a day before he's fully conscious, and after that, I make no claims as to his overall mental state and the damage said incapacitation may have rendered.

But I'll  bet you this much- he'll answer our next round of questions a little less flippantly.

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to Uldaf Asbjorn (msg # 820):

Brennan sees that the demonspeaker is bound and slips a gag around his neck so it can be easily shoved into his mouth if he awakens and begins to be unpleasant.

He then regards the Nor and the archer.

"My lord," he says carefully. "Shall we relieve them of their weapons and perhaps set the Nor's arm? He will be crippled for life otherwise, and the danger has passed. We might also look to our own..."

Uldaf begins tending to the wounded, not bothering to pay more than a passing thought as to why Titus was still calling him a bear when he was a human

There is the distinct chance he doesn't know the difference..

Re: Chapter 1

In reply to Uldaf Asbjorn (msg # 823):

Without hesitation, Uldaf sits down beside the fire, cleans his tools in the flames, and begins to sew up his own arm.  This is a very difficult and delicate procedure, seeing as he has only one free hand, but he employs his teeth and feet where appropriate and does a halfway decent job of cleaning the wound, stitching up the muscle and then closing the gash and binding everything tightly.  The bandages turn red immediately but Uldaf doesn't seem to notice.

Once this is done, he cleans and binds Enrei's "scratch" as he calls it left from the arrow.  In truth there is little damage left from the wound.

The Nor watches with curiosity, Theo watches with a mix of paranoia and hope.

The two remaining horses have calmed themselves and wait nearby.

Brennan sets the Nor's arm, if the man will let him, and at least spares the demonspeaker a passing glance to see what shape he's in while Uldaf is busy sewing up his own arm.

Titus looks lordly and scowls at everyone in general...

We should probably move on from this spot and return to the mill otherwise we will waste tomorrrow as well.
