Re: OOC Discussion #2

I've been tracking my own damage on past combats, I'm willing to keep doing that unless you'd prefer an all or nothing.

just putting that out there to avoid double dipping damage

that was my concern too, in addition to not at all understanding our healing system :p

Re: OOC Discussion #2

In reply to Uldaf Asbjorn (msg # 49):

My understanding is that there ISN'T a healing system, and that we should be trying to avoid combat because a character seems to be able to survive about three punches a month.

Which might be realistic, but does not lend itself well to heroics!

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 50):

this is mostly accurate, though punches are far easier to survive than anything at all sharp.

Unless I'm punching you, those you got spot on.

In reply to Enrei Omal'i (msg # 51):

All correct.  There IS a healing system, it's just very, very slow.  Also, yes, there is a massive difference between killing and shock damage.

I'd never advocate avoiding combat, just avoid getting hit.  :)

In reply to GM (msg # 52):

As another consideration:  In bear form you have a total of 8d in brawl, and as you've seen you've been rolling multiple sets.  It would be worth considering a multi-action.  You'd only drop to 7d and you could get more use out of those extra sets.

Attack/Defend is harder if your "block" or "dodge" pool doesn't match your brawl pool.

That's the whole point of Martial Arts after all...

@Beardaf, I updated your sheet with damage.

Re: OOC Discussion #2

In reply to GM (msg # 56):

Is there a way to drop successful sets in increase width of a set, or no?

It's frustrating rolling 8 die and getting 3 or 4, 2 wide sets. I know I can use them to mess with roll height, but when I'm already sitting on a 2x10, what's the point?

I guess this is a bit of powergaming, but me the player here assumes it's better to swing another 2x10 at the guy who I almost decpitated than a 3x1 at his right leg. Do i get to choose which set I use?

actually the 3x1 may be preferrable as it could interrupt his set.

Did rolling higher on running matter, or just having a match at all? is 3x2 better than 2x10? Curious about the way that worked.

Re: OOC Discussion #2

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 59):

@ Uldaf:  You have some options.

A.  You can "sack" the extra sets to adjust the hit location if you want.
B.  You can hold extra sets in case your main set is interrupted.
C. You can bet that with 8d you'll likely get more than one set, and take a multi-attack.  You reduced your chance of getting the two sets, but you also reduce the chance of having "wasted" sets.
D. As Titus said, you can choose the wider

And yes, you get to choose which set.  However, the hit location is always the first die you rolled, so which set you choose won't affect that.  Which set you choose WILL determine how much you can adjust your hit location, however.

In this case, your first die was a 10, so you get a headshot no matter which set you choose.

@ Brennan: Yes, it mattered.  In this case, the height is the "quality" or how well you ran.  Conserving energy, dodging obstacles and making a better route allowed you to catch up.

@ Brennan are you doing something or just screaming impotently?

Also you do realize that Enrei responds best to direct commands.

You do need to hit his head from a grapple.  Otherwise you are gonna throttle the shit out of his left arm.

The next turns should be... interesting.  I'm intrigued to see how it plays out.

why do you question the grappling rules, why can't we just assume they work?  Jon doesn't want to remember them either, I gotta do all the work for my character and then you people question me, I am outraged.
quote:
You can begin choking a pinned opponent with any successful Body+Brawling, Body+Wrestling, or Body+Martial Arts roll—you don’t need to make a called shot to location 10. But if you attempt a choke and fail, the target automatically escapes your pin.

also, RAW aside, I have all confidence in Enrei's ability to choke someone in an arm lock, the welfare of said arm be damned.
