The mountains and surrounding trees block the sun far in advance of full night, making a long and shadowy evening about the fire.
When the last light is faded, a chill wind blows down from the mountains and does its best to sneak underneath or through your blankets.
Then Titus is roused for his watch.
Like Brennan and Enrei before him, the most dangerous thing that approaches is a cold wind, still early enough in the season to be kept at bay by a thick cloak.
However, between the sounds of the forest, there is the hint of footsteps approaching from all directions of the crossroads.
