Re: Chapter 2

Enrei joins Bryce by the fire once present and enjoys Titus's new material, any similarity to true events clearly lost on him.  He offers answers to Deev's questions when he feels his knowledge is robust enough, and is hust as helpful as he was to Titus's inquiries.  Enrei has no argument to his turn keeping watch and seems to mostly just want the night to pass so they can get back on the road.

Re: Chapter 2

In reply to Enrei Omal'i (msg # 720):

Deev listens wide-eyed to Enrei explain about the local wildlife.

Assuming he is a good student, Deev now knows considerably fewer true things about forests than he did before.

Re: Chapter 2

In reply to Deev (msg # 721):

The mountains and surrounding trees block the sun far in advance of full night, making a long and shadowy evening about the fire.

When the last light is faded, a chill wind blows down from the mountains and does its best to sneak underneath or through your blankets.

Then Titus is roused for his watch.

Like Brennan and Enrei before him, the most dangerous thing that approaches is a cold wind, still early enough in the season to be kept at bay by a thick cloak.

However, between the sounds of the forest, there is the hint of footsteps approaching from all directions of the crossroads.

Re: Chapter 2

In reply to GM (msg # 722):

Titus sighs heavily but gives no outward sign that he has heard.

Can't we get through a night without someone trying to kill us?

He wraps the cloak tightly around himself and shivers dramatically (/ooc: drawing a knife)

He continues to trudge around on his walk listening closely ready to spring in any one of a number of directions should anything present.  His breathing slows and he focuses inwardly.

Re: Chapter 2

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 723):

Whatever Titus heard, it does not materialize that night and the sun soon splashes over the mountains and bathes you in warming light.

It is now the 11th Day of the Queen's Month

"I'm not sure," Deev comments, stretching his legs, "how you sleep on the rocks like that for more than one night..."

"Very carefully," Brennan says, overseeing the clean-up of the camp. "Let's head out. Today is likely to be a busy one."

That's different how?
He gives a manic laugh

Lets roll out!  I've got a horrible feeling about this and I'm looking forward to being proven right.

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 727):

Footsteps? That's... not good. But as we were undisturbed, it's not bad either.

Brennan raises an eyebrow at Titus, but forces a smile and a change of subject.

"I'm disappointed to have dreamed nothing of importance," Brennan remarks. "Did anyone else have an interesting dream?"

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 728):

Yours was less than helpful too?

There was a door in a stone hillock.  I tried to open it and couldn't.  It was cold and eerie, beyond that completely unilluminating.

What about you guys?

No dreams for me at all. I wonder if that in and of itself is an omen...

In reply to Enrei Omal'i (msg # 731):

The early birds chirp and go about getting their well-deserved worms.

Once camp is broken you (I presume) choose the Northeast path.  The day promises to be warmer than the last and only a few small clouds dot the otherwise blue sky.  The path continues more or less straight, veering here and there around bolders or shallow crevices.

/OOC:  As you are aware that there is potential danger ahead, how do you proceed down the path and toward the town?

In reply to GM (msg # 732):

"We'll need to scout periodically during our advance," Brennan suggests as the group gets underway. "So keep an eye out for sturdy trees or high ground."

He glances at Enrei for a moment.

"Do you know how to wear armor? If so, I have an idea."

Brennan smiles slightly.

"And by wear armor, I mean do you know how to move and fight while wearing it. I know you could physically strap it on."

"I can move and fight," Enrei replies unhelpfully.  He seems curious about the subject but clearly has no idea what Brennan is talking about.

In reply to Enrei Omal'i (msg # 736):

"Fantastic," Brennan says, his diction at odds with his expression. "Would you like to learn how it works? I think it would make you safer, and it would make us look a lot more credible moving forward."

He glances at Titus and lowers his voice.

"You have more practice wearing the stuff than I do. Do you want to help him out? We have a little armor, you'll recall, from our... last shopping trip."

He smiles slightly.

"Of course it is. I suppose it's not important now, but there may come a time when we need to impersonate the owner, so to speak. I wanted to know if we were prepared."

I think you'd be better off with me in the armor.  Knowing Enrei he would not take to 'acting' very well.

Re: Chapter 2

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 743):

Our best bet is to hope the village has a discreet but capable blacksmith who will be very grateful at his liberation from whatever terrors haunt the village.

Also probably a good idea to make it clear that Enrei will now collect money for you and not himself; or else we are sure to find ourselves down one horse and with no money.
