In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 770):
Titus just listens to the humming with his eyes closed. He apparently hasn't opened them since he went into the cart, just taking a moment to listen to the angelic singing. Brennan can see tears running down his cheeks. At the contact his eyes slowly open slowly and as soon as they focus on the figure in the white dress Titus becomes pure movement, you have never seen him move so fast or so gracefully as he places his feet in the carriage on each solid surface as if he had done it a million times, vaulting from chest to chest. As he does he calls out,
MOM!
The woman could be anywhere from her mid 20's to her late 30's, and is absolutely stunning to look at. Nearly the same height as Titus with curly dark hair that frames her long delicate face, with features that are indistinguishable from Titus. Titus definitely favors his mom, but where Titus is all muscle and sinew she is willowy, thin and lightly muscled, her eyes are a brilliant green while Titus' are grey and blue, and Titus' hair is straight and jet black compared to her wavy auburn locks.
She turns and looks at him her smile, not as blazing bright as Titus' and far more nurturing putting the lie to her scolding.
Titus honey! I've told you a million times not to vault around the cart like you're a monkey.
Titus rushes into her arms and the last thing that Brennan can see or hear is Titus burying his head in the nape of his mother's neck and the sniffing sob of tears of happiness, as she brushes his hair with one hand and wraps her other arm around his shoulder.
She hums to him until he is under control and then holds him out at arms length to look at him with tears in her eyes as well.
I can't believe how much you've grown! You look like one of the heroes of old.
I think I've become one of the heroes of old...
Titus says as he gives her a brief show indicating his powers. She claps in delight, giggles and gasps at all the right moments.
She always was the best audience
He lets the illusion conclude. This activity of performing has had a calming influence on him and he is now far more under control, his composure returned.
Where is the rest of the troupe? Where is dad? What happened to you guys? I have so many questions...
I don't know, I know that we died, but everything is fuzzy, the more I tried to remember it the less I can remember. I have seen most of the troupe, even Jerem, and before you ask yes he is still wearing that dumb hat. I have not seen your father at all, I fear he is not... here.
Titus sighs heavily in response to this news
I fear he is in hell, and that is my next stop. I... think we can bring you back. Would you want to come back with us? I... don't know what to do without you. I'm lost.
At this point Titus is sitting on the floor infront of his mom's chair. They have not broken contact since he first touched her. She claps both her hands to his cheeks, grabbing him fiercely and shaking him slightly.
You have everything you need. We left you too early, but you are smart enough, clever enough and handsome enough to make your own way. Forge your own troupe. Create your own family. Don't wait for me. Besides, I have to make sure that everyone here is in order. There is so much to do...
Then I could stay here, with you.
For the first time anger lapses into her voice
NO! You go back to the realm of living. Live your life... know that I love you, and be good, I expect to see you later.
Outside Brennan can hear the murmur of voices for a long few minutes. Then, suddenly,he hears the sweetest song he has ever heard. The contralto voice is reverberating, haunting, causing his emotions to rise and fall. In the second chorus he hears Titus join in his tenor playing a perfect counterpoint to the contralto.
quote:
Only tell me that you still want me here
When you wander off out there
To those hills of dust and hard winds that blow
In that dry white ocean alone
Lost out in the desert
You are lost out in the desert
But to stand with you in a ring of fire
I'll forget the days gone by
I'll protect your body and guard your soul
From mirages in your sight
Lost out in the desert (desert, desert...)
If your hope scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path
The sun may blind our eyes, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara
If that's the only place where you can leave your doubts
I'll hold you up and be your way out
And if we burn away, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara
Just a wish and I will cover your shoulders
With veils of silk and gold
When the shadows come and darken your heart
Leaving you with regrets so cold
Lost out in the desert (desert, desert...)
If your hope scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path
The sun may blind our eyes, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara
If that's the only place where you can leave your doubts
I'll hold you up and be your way out
And if we burn away, I'll pray the skies above
For snow to fall on the Sahara
For snow to fall on the Sahara
For snow to fall on the Sahara
For snow to fall on the Sahara
