Chapter 6

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 395):

Titus makes it to the tower door and removes the sack of flour, allowing Ciryl to limp out.

"What!?  Where?!  Get the Master of Arms!" shouts one of the two guards, sending the other shooting off into the dark.

The remaining guard quenches the flames and looks back toward the tower, where Ciryl and Titus are making their exit.

"Stop!" he cries out!

COMBAT ROUND

There is one guard in the tower, but what he's up to is anyone's guess.

There is now only one guard left on the ground.  He is a round of movement away.  Ciryl is free, but hobbles.

Chapter 6

"I'll see to your leg when this is over!" Ciryl shouts to the guard, hoping it's loud enough for Brennan to hear if he's nearby, or implied hard enough for Titus not to kill the man.  He then abruptly turns and hobbles in the opposite direction of the man.

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 397):

Titus easily keeps pace with him for a step to whisper in his ear.

Brennan is behind that shed over there.  You two meet me in the alley behind the tanner.  Keep a low profile and act like you are a beggar.  I'm going to try to loose them.

Titus draws his sword and sneers mockingly at the guard.

Come now boy.  Attempting to cross swords with the likes of me?  What makes you think you stand a chance?

He positions himself between guard and ciryl.

Chapter 6

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 399):

Ciryl moves as fast as he's able... which is not terribly impressive.

The guard immediately locks in on Titus and charges toward him, spear lowered, showing no sign of stopping or fleeing.

"What's going on down there?" a voice from the tower calls out.

COMBAT ROUND

OOC: Brennan has held, and can act before anyone else.

The lone guard on the ground has made it to melee range with Titus

Chapter 6

Ciryl continues his three-stepped hustle away from the guard, silently praying that neither he nor Titus dies from the encounter.  If the guard seems distracted enough he'll loop around in the direction he was told Brennan was waiting.

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 401):

Titus breathes deeply, lowering his sword point and stepping gracefully as if he were the best swordsman ever known.

This is going to suck...

With that he lunges to attack, not the guard but his weapon.

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 402):

Brennan sighs, unable to see the nuances of Titus's attack. He draws his bow and fires.

(Archery+coordination:5, 2x4, 2x9)

The arrow flies true and strikes the guard somewhere uncomfortable. Brennan doesn't wait to watch where -- he's already moving to another location.

Chapter 6

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 403):

The guard charges forward, lunging with his spear, the blade sinking into Titus' arm (5 Killing R. Arm)

Titus grunts but holds his devilish smile and poise, pulling back to get the spear tip out of his arm and hacking at the haft of the spear.  The shaft cracks and is batted away.

An arrow zips past Titus' ear and catches the guard through his arm.  The arrow finds the crook of his elbow and tears apart the joint.  The man yells in pain and drops the battered spear.  Likely his arm is useless.

Ciryl continues to limp his limpiest (2 more rounds to escape)

In reply to GM (msg # 404):

Brennan shoulders his bow, confident Titus can finish the job without needing to waste another arrow or risk killing the guard.

He darts toward the rendezvous point Cyril is hobbling to and ponders a way out of this mess.

Chapter 6

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 405):

Titus hears the arrow more than seeing it and winces as it punctures the man's elbow.

Fuck!  Brennan, I wish you hadn't done that.

He assumes his fighting stance after the spearhead goes tumbling away.

Boy.  This sword is not meant for you.  You have no weapon and can't defeat me.  I'll give you a chance to flee.  I recommend you take it.

Titus stands like a statue, every sinew of his body quivering with potential energy.  Any attacks on him witll be dodged with the barest of movement.

Chapter 6

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 406):

Ciryl, presumably, keeps hobbling as fast as he can.

"Fuck!" groans the unarmed guard.  He turns tail and runs, hollering his head off all the way for help, guards, and 'fuck me!'

A shout is heard from the tower above.  In the dark, you can just trace the outline of a figure with a bow against the sky.

COMBAT ROUND

Ciryl is one round from being out of range of the combat.

Brennan is, presumably, still hidden.

Titus is alone and unengaged.

A wounded guard is running away from both Titus and Brennan, screaming for help.

The guard in the tower is probably setting up to shoot at someone.

In reply to GM (msg # 407):

Brennan adjusts him aim and fires again, this time at the tower.

"I wanted to be in Losthelm by now," he grumbles to himself. "But no. Titus had to make a literal deal with a devil..."

[Archery + Coord: 4, 2x4, 2x6, 2x10]

The arrow flies true and he hopes it's enough to prevent anyone he likes from being perforated.

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 410):

The cloud of smoke is sufficient cover that the guard holds his fire until Brennan finds his mark.

There is a scream from the tower and the shape falls out of sight for the moment.

END COMBAT

Ciryl huffs, puffs, and hobbles his best, finally rounding a corner to the far side of a plain longhouse made of logs.  There isn't much foot traffic here, but Ciryl can hear voices from not far off.  They don't sound particularly concerned yet.

OOC: Combat rounds are over, but could quickly resume depending on what you do.  There are two guards running off in different directions hollering for help, though the first is now out of earshot.

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 412):

Titus works his way towards Brennan and Ciryl careful not to be seen.

He pushes them farther into the back alleys to find a place where they can come up with a plan, and more than one exit.

Brennan, do you remember where they put you after your kidnapping.

This whole thing has gone pear shaped.

Chapter 6

"He left you to rot?!" Ciryl glares at Brennan indignantly, "I don't know what either of you two have been up to all day, but we still have a demon problem.  Now I don't know what you think you know about the inquisition, but this one rode his horse to death getting here and can't see us glowing like beacons.  He is alone and on a mission he does not seem fully prepared for.  I suggest we find out what he is up to this moment and if it has nothing to do with subduing Jack, we coerce him to do just that.  Far as I can tell he has no authority outside of what he can convince this town to give him."

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 415):

"Unfortunately, he has convinced this town to give him an awful lot."

Brennan sighs.

"Did anything he said or did strike you as the mark of a reasonable man? He wanted to leave the city immediately, and take me with him, rather than deal with the demon. If we want him to change his mind on that, we have to make him say it aloud before the Watch. Perhaps they can help us...encourage...him to do the right thing where we have failed."

"My thoughts exactly." Ciryl nods to Brennan, "If we confront him before the guard and whatever Masters he is convening with, insist that we will help to subdue the demon and then he can have his way with us he'll have to accept or refuse to aid the town in front of its full force, even he won't have a proper way out."

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 417):

Titus scrubs his face with a hand and proffers his wounded arm to Brennan.

Wish we hadn't shot that guy, but I appreciate you covering me, I had just disarmed him.

He says with a rueful smile.

Seems now we have stirred the pot quite well.  As for the plan I had them catch and release you.  I was 'captured' by the inquisitor myself and spent the day in lockup.
I was hoping at night that Jack would solve our inquisitor problem.

We need to get rid of the inquisitor.

Titus clearly is providing subtext to Brennan.  Titus provides the information he got from the inquisitor to the team as well as the conversation with Jack to Brennan.  Including Jack's lack of care that the inquisitor is there and his assertion that 'he should not be here'.

The easiest way to fix this to give you to the inquisitor Brennan you have run long enough.
