He looks apologetically at the old cripple

while someone I would want on my side in noncombat situations... is less valuable in a physical confrontation.  What tactical advantage could he porvide?

Also how are we to summon him?

Titus says matter-of-factly.

Why not have both of you make the pact?  Then we are way ahead.

"That can't have been your plan, Inquisitor. To have all of your allies make a deal with the demon only to betray it. There are other weapons at your disposal."

The Inquisitor replies, without a hint of malice or anger,

"Correctly assessed, this was not the original plan.  Your interference has necessitated a new plan.

I suggest Titus and I battle the daemon, you provide support, Ciryl remain here under restraint.  Once we have completed the task, Ciryl and Brennan shall travel with me to the citadel."

The Inquisitor remains with hand extended toward Brennan.

"The man can barely walk," Brennan says, gesturing at Cyril. "Why restrain him?"

"I won't sit by while the demon lives.  I'm coming with you," Ciryl states as a matter of fact to the Inquisitor, "I might not be a fighter, but I'm a talker.  I told you I tried negotiating with him once already but I was interrupted.  I could be a distraction, at least.  With these two you could probably use the moral support as well."

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 477):

There is a now-familiar prolonged pause.

"Restraint will only be necessitated if you attempt to flee again." he agrees finally.

Titus, with great trepidation, unbuckles his sword and leans it towards the inquisitor, keeping his hand on the hilt.

I get this back when the demon is dealt with.

It is not a question he looks directly at the inquisitor.

The Inquisitor accepts the sword, wrapping gloved fingers experimentally about the handle.

The other hand remains extended toward Brennan.

That was brilliant... but stupid, unless he is trying to piss him off.  Let's see where this goes.

His mirth is cutoff as a dark look crosses his face.

"I am certain you can appreciate simple mitigation of risk," the Inquisitor replies flatly.

"You have demonstrated that your promises do not translate to execution."

Ciryl looks back and forth between Brennan and the Inquisitor before exhaling sharply, "Oh would you just give him the god damned uniform already? We have more important concerns!  Honestly, why does everything have to be a conspiracy with the two of you?"

"Because it IS a conspiracy," Brennan growls. He tosses a balled-up white uniform to (at?) the Inquisitor grumpily. "Haven't you been listening?"

"Has it occurred to you that that is only true because you are constantly conspiring?" Ciryl puts one fist on his hip, unamused.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean people are not out to get you...  Has saved my life on more than one occasion.

He folds his hand behind his back and paces back and forth his anxious energy infectious now that they are on the brink of action.

Ok so now thats settled... whats the plan?

The inquisitor accepts the robes and turns the bundle over several times.

He sets them carefully on the large wooden table, produces a heavy knife from his belt, then begins to, very meticulously, cut the white armor into shreds.

"There are indeed forces out to get you.  The Inquisition continues to be your best line of defense."

The Inquisitor works silently for some time.

"Do you require any further preparation before we depart?"

A moment in my chambers.  I need a wardrobe change.


Titus enters the tavern's room and you hear a great clanging clattering, some cursing, and lots of russeling.  A moment later Titus exits, looking every bit a young lordling.  He is wearing chain mail under Fastbender's tabard, a shield with Fastbender's insignia slung over his back and a sword at his hip.

I am now ready.

He says his voice grim.

You've killed a witch... now its time to slay a demon.

The Inquisitor follows you as you make preparations, which also helps you move about town faster since locals are quite keen to get out of the Inquisitor's path.

"As long as you do not deviate from this plan."

I vow that one of us will not make it through the night.

What is the plan that I am not to deviate from exactly?  I mean you call him out and then what?

"That's not the kind of vow you ought to make unless you're volunteering," Ciryl comments sternly, "And you oughtn't be that foolish either.  I have some medicine still left in my cart, might keep that from happening if worse does come to worst,"  he directs this to the inquisitor and if permitted retrieves a couple vials and bandages from his cart.
