Expecting Brennan to do as asked, Ciryl takes the knife and sets to work on the Inquisitor's armor, severing any straps that might impede access to the victim beneath.

OOC: @Brennan It's about the same amount of time to get to Ciryl's cart vs. the surgeon's house.

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 552):

"There is a bar of amber in his helmet. Ensure it is not damaged," Brennan snaps as Cyril fusses over his charge. Still, he makes plenty of noise as he barrels toward the cart.

"Fetch the surgeon at once!" He orders the nearest guard he encounters. "The demon is dead, but the Inquisitor needs help!"

When he reaches the cart, he hops onto it and urges the steed forward with all haste.

Chapter 6

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 553):

Upon closer inspection, Ciryl, he finds that a few of the tools the Inquisitor carries can be put to use: some needles and thin wire.  Ciryl continues to do his best given the equipment.  If he checks the helmet as Brennan urges, he indeed finds a small amber rod inserted into a slot in the back.  The rod is cracked, blackened, and still warm to the touch.

Brennan is soon surrounded by guards, and the Master of Arms, as he hastens the cart back to help Ciryl.

Neither the Inquisitor nor Titus do much.

"Don't move.  Don't speak.  Just try not to die, that's effort enough," Ciryl states sternly as he works, "I'd give you something to help if I had it but you're a bit beyond a mouthful of bark," he adds, trying to sound more compassionate than stressed.

Chapter 6

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 561):

Ciryl continues to do his level best to stabilize the downed Inquisitor.  By the time Brennan returns, Ciryl is bloody to the elbows, and beads of sweat dot his withered brow and twinkly sadly in the lamplight.

The guards immediately swarm around, but do not lay hands on anyone for the moment.

The Master of Arms strides forward carefully, keeping tabs on Ciryl and Brennan, but moving toward the remains of Jack without fear.  He kicks at them cautiously with the toe of one boot.  Jack's reedy torso cracks and collapses, the strips of cloth seeming to be wrapped around nothing but empty air.

A few paces from where Ciryl works, Titus gasps and falls silent.  Laying a hand on his chest or neck tells you immediately that he is dead.

Chapter 6

"Do you know what surgeon's tools look like?" Ciryl shouts at the sound of the oncoming cart, not looking up from his work, "Curved needles, small knives, you'll find some in the back, give them here."  When the guards close in he barks authoritatively, "You keep your distance.  I've got enough dirt and mess!" but otherwise doesn't pause.  As he works to keep the inquisitor alive, he spares glances at Titus until one glance lingers long enough to see his chest cease its rise and fall, at which point the inquisitor gains his undivided attention.

Chapter 6

In reply to Ciryl Fontaine (msg # 565):

Brennan collects the tools Cyril asked for and provides them without fanfare. This accomplished, he goes to check on Titus.

Given his flare for the dramatic, this could be a ruse...

When he detects no vital signs, he exhales deeply.

"Well, that's one way to avoid the Haunts," he murmurs. "And it's just like you to give me another task to complete before we reach Losthelm. But I swear, if you remain behind as Enrei did..."

He rises to his feet, though he will prevent any would-be looters from setting upon the corpse. If Titus's aura has winked out, Brennan then scans the crowd very carefully for signs of a new aura among the rabble. He will also attempt to collect a sample of Jack's remains, however faint.

Jack killed him, but Jacks' dead. Where would it go... he ponders quietly. His perfect memory turns the wheels of time backward a considerable distance. Where did Enrei's go? I...should be able to recall...

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 566):

Oddly, the aura about Titus does not move away, though it does fade so as to be nearly invisible.

Ciryl, now equipped, begins attending to the Inquisitor properly.

OOC: new roll, please

The Master of Arms looks over his shoulder, then toward Brennan.

"It appears there were some losses.  The injuries do not appear to be from a sword... or bow."

"Claws," Ciryl offers gruffly from his position as he works, "The ragged thing tore at them with bare hands."  Despite his contribution he remains focused on patching the inquisitor, not even bothering to look up as he retorts to the Master's observation.

Chapter 6

In reply to GM (msg # 569):
"The wounds were caused by a demon," Brennan nods in agreement. "Specifically, THAT demon. But Jack can no longer haunt this village or its people. The cult built up around him should crumble without much trouble now that the law is onto them and their master is dead."

He clears his throat.

"About the girls. We have a good idea of where to find them, and they should be safe enough now that Jack is gone. It was the demon doing the killing part" Brennan says, frowning thoughtfully at Titus's body for a moment. "But there's a local priest we can question to get more details if our other leads don't turn the up. Even without a demon, I doubt you'd tolerate the presence of a cult within your borders."

Brennan takes this opportunity to scoop up the Inquisitor's sword, wrapping his hand and the hilt in cloth before doing so.

"Do not allow anyone to touch this blade unless they know what they are doing," he advises. "It has taken on a portion of the demon's taint. I can cleanse it, but it will take time. I just need a few ingredients..."

Brennan produces a list of ingredients that may or may not be composed mostly what would be needed to repeat the ritual he performed when he crossed into the Dream of Heaven in search of Enrei.

"Will any of these pose a problem?"
