Re: Lanth: New Day
Turns to face newcomers.

"Way ahead there, but the ship is mine per Hortalez et Cie as their trustee or Repo agent. The others here can argue it out in an Imperial Justice Court. Any hint of collusion with Ritter and they're off to Tarkwell or the Gash or 'volunteered' for the army's recon. Now Gahler is a pilot of exception though, if we can get out, he can get us there. Kraig's outstanding too, but he's an engineer too and can keep an eye on things there. What I need is a sensors person, we don't have any experts in that field in the dossiers I scanned."

"What brought you aboard IM?"

Strolling in, "there will be pickets for certain."
"Any chance we can put together some squarkers. Fake transponders in a barrel with a small power source."
"We can jettison them at different spots on a time delay. Have the Swordies chasing phantoms so we can scarper."

Luise Wechsler:
Luise thinks about their options.
"I'd like us to jump away from trouble, away from the Sword worlds, but to a location that is not a dead end. If we jump to Sonthert or Victoria, we'll never get back to civilization - we'll be stuck there. D'Ganzio is also a dead end.
I'm not desperate enough for a random jump yet - although this may become an option in the future.
I think we should try Arba, and hope to make it into the Lunion sector in one piece, but since we're all risking our hides here, everyone should have a vote."

Kraig responds; "We could jump to Asgard and then work our way toward Regina along the border.  That may take us into worse trouble.  If we go via Arba we can jump again via Rabwhar toward Lunion.  The problem is that Arba has no gas giant or oceans and if the Swordies have occupied the system we are stuck without fuel.  We really need fuel bladders so we can do a deep space jump from Ylaven across the Deeps."

"Asgard is a Sword World, under interdiction, for a fleet to get to Lanth they likely went through Asgard, I deemed it too dangerous to even consider it."

"Those would be the likely routes, but Asgard as the name alone implies was founded by Swordies. They'll wish to liberate it on sheer principle. Arba was a Sword world too, don't think any live there anymore though."

Kraig shrugged. "I'd expect that just about any of the small worlds along the frontier have been occupied.  To get clear we really need to jump three parsecs and then we can get clear to coreward."

"How much water would we need to make the 3rd jump." Gahler queried.
"We could scavenge some drums to store water in the cargo hold."
"This being a bad situation, we need to start thinking outside the box."
"Is there anything on the ATV we jacked which we could use to make a storage tank."
"Can we seal a stateroom or two and use it for water storage?"

In reply to Steve Cable (msg # 38):

IM shrugs "Well that's a long story. The short brief is I was hitching a ride with an ol' buddy after retiring from the ISS. He landed at the Scout Base for maintenance, I took off to sightsee.  Then I get a message that he's lifting and jumping out due to the invasion and I'm stuck hiding out on what I thought was a remote quite and empty island." He chuckles "for an out of the way little sand pile it sure got awful crowded. Seeing as you looked like you might of needed assistance I sniped a bit from that dune over there and then hopped my GEM cycle and flew into the hold. Didn't really want to spend anymore time on this island than necessary." He sits down in a vacant chair at the sensor console. "I can do sensors."

Re: Lanth: New Day
Arc had been cleaning up the bodies. Although he wasn't doing what he usually did with prey, he'd learned the benefit of cleaning up after yourself. Or, rather, he'd learned the penalty of not doing it.

There was a cargo bay area that was capable of cold storage, so he put the dead bodies there. At some point, the new captain, whoever that turned out to be, might say 'space 'em', after suitable documentation, but it was also possible that these hijackers might have had relatives that would have wanted to know what happened to them, and want to give them a proper burial.

Once all the bodies had been moved, Arc went about cleaning up the blood and gore, splattered brains, whateve...

Re: Lanth: New Day
Kraig considers the chore of refueling.  "If we take our time we can almost certainly rig up a way to transfer water to the fuel tanks.  It will count as unrefined fuel and could affect our jump performance but it's worth the trouble.  If we really were desperate we could find an iceteroid and melt off hunks for fuel.  That is more dangerous as the ice contains lots of nasty stuff that will melt off as well."

Re: Lanth: New Day
Jyro had a tendency to keep to himself. He wasn't exactly a loner, but he was pretty close.

When Arc took it upon himself to clean up the dead bodies, Jyro pitched in and helped. It was a way to keep busy so he wouldn't dwell on the fact that Ritter wasn't dead--yet, but was in a low berth.

Once captain and ownership had been established, he approached both.

"I'll pass on the share of the ship," he said to them. "Don't want that hanging over my head. So how about if you just consider me a passenger, until we get some place where you can drop me off?"

Luise gratefully accepts another share. Until she is able to make good on her promise of sharing out some of the shares (which will require some offical paperwork), she holds 60% for the moment.

Luise only holds 50%... 5 shares--her two and the captain's 3. Her distribution of sub-shares to the others has been logged into the computer. It's official, though not registered interstellarly yet.

Re: Lanth: New Day
Once the internal gravity governors were repaired, the ship was ready to lift off, even if it wasn't going very far.

Vermeer was able to detect comm traffic from orbit to planet and back, but most of it was encrypted. What little wasn't was mostly the planetary authorities surrendering, and a few independents transmitting curses at the Swordies.

However, he is able to discern a certain amount of data just from the nature and frequency of the transmissions.

There are three Swordie ships in orbit... one larger command ship and two smaller ones. At least one of the smaller ones seems to be on patrol/pursuit duty, and moves off not and then.

While there are satellites in orbit, the planet has never warranted 'spy' satellites, so there really aren't many looking down on the planet. The two that are up there are weather satellites. If they've been taken over, which seems likely, they are only going to be re-tasked to something interesting.
