Re: Dust Runner Quarters

Adriannah can probably hear his laughter as he walks away.

He heads back to the bridge to man keep watch on the sensors, even though they were on automatic. Clearly, Luise had wanted him along for another brain to pick.

He'd given his two credits, though.

Surprise and concern about the fellow's statement about no Ship's boat. Adriannah thought this was a good time to address this. Captain will you be getting out the Ship with a auxiliary boat?

Re: Dust Runner Quarters

"It isn't that I haven't considered it, or that it hasn't been brought up before," Luise replies, "but the question has always been what to get and where to put if we do get it."

"We already got the cargo module fastened to the bottom of the ship, so slinging it underneath is mostly out of the question. Putting it dorsally has its own problems... mainly, access. If we got an auxiliary craft and custom modified it to accept the ship's lift up through the bottom, that would be practical. The alternative would be to relocate the lift off to the port or starboard and it pops up within its own airlock to access the airlock of the auxiliary craft."

"That would make the ship a bit less maneuverable, and we might need to reinforce the landing gear."

"The other alternative was to put it in the cargo hold. Regardless of which one we put it in, it'll reduce our cargo capacity."

"Have you got any suggestions for either what to get or where to store it?"

Adriannah smiled You could sell the Ship, then we (the crew) could pool our collective resources to Buy a larger Merchant Ship, one that had everything needed.

Noting Luise's marked silence Adriannah gave a slight wiggle wave of her fingers and right hand. Not to matter... she commented.

"Oh, sorry... mind was wandering," Luise responded to Adriannah.

"Well, that's what we did to get this ship not so long ago."

"I think we need to make a bit of a go at this one before we consider another one. I suspect we'll find that no matter what ship we get, there'll be something we don't like about it... too old, too slow, too cramped, too wide, too shiny, too beat up... You get the picture."

"It's really about doing the best you can with what you have, not constantly trying to trade up to a bigger and better deal."

"You mean have you and Forge been performing your duties well?" Luise replied, referring to the only two new crew on the ship.

"So far, yes. But then, neither of you have really been challenged yet, have you? Out here in space, if you screw up, particularly if you do so badly, you aren't usually alive to be criticized."

"Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is wait."

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Quarters

"Each of us has our own definition of what 'pressure' is," Luise responded. "It depends on your training and natural aptitude."

"If the computer announces the ship will destruct in 10 seconds and you know you can't get far enough away in time, then you have to disarm the self-destruct fast."

"If your ship gets caught in the gravity well of a black hole, you have to figure a way out or be sucked in and squashed to the size of an atom."

"You're confronted by an overwhelming force of enemy ships--you have three options: resist to the end, surrender, or negotiate."

"Do any of those scenarios sound like pressure to you?"

"I'm not sure it's a test if it kills you if you fail," Luise replies. "But, yes, I've been in a few of those situations. Don't know if they would have killed me, since I apparently passed the test."

She'd been following the ongoing reports of the Away Team and was starting to find it a bit frustrating that she wasn't there to see what they were finding.

"I don't suppose you have any insights into this facility? Does it seem alien to you?"

"I've seen some strange Human customs, and I can't say I'm fully aware of Aslan or Vargr customs, let alone Hiver or K'k'k'ree, but I'm still picking up an alien vibe from this. It's like they didn't quite think the way we do."

Adriannah thanks Harry for the update. I suspect his facility got regular supplies or maybe even shipped items out. Any sign of a cargo bay, docking port or the like.

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Quarters

"They haven't reported any thing like a cargo bay," Luise answers Adriannah, "but they did find a hangar bay."

"The actual hangar doors weren't visible from the surface, so any such opening has been cleverly hidden. Based on what they found inside, I'm thinking that this may have been an aesthetic choice rather than intentional concealment. If something was meant to be seen, then it was removed from sight by concealing it."

"That's a very keen observation, though, about them getting supplies or shipping things out."

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Quarters

"You know, I hadn't thought about that," Luise replies to Adriannah. "I think that's because I got the impression it wasn't that big of a hangar bay. I just figured if it had been large enough to accommodate the Bandersnatch, one of the others would have suggested docking the ship."

"We can ask. Of course, they have to be able to open the hangar bay doors. There would seem to be power still, but whether it's enough to open the doors is the question."

While she continued to monitor the streaming progress of the Away Team, she called them over the comms.

"Was the hangar bay large enough to handle the Bandersnatch?"

"Interesting idea," comments Gahler at Arlo's suggestion over the comms.

"I might go one step further and suggest that the mural may contain other images under UV light. I suppose it's always possible that other EMS frequencies could reveal even other images."

"As Luise suggested, this is alien. There's no reason to think that this alien species saw things in the same spectral wavelength that we do. I would think it depended on what kind of light their home world received."

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Quarters

"Why would a painting have a CPU?" Gahler asked.

"Oh. I get it. Maybe it's a holographic projection, you mean. Or maybe it's some sort of gigantic plasma screen image."

"If it does have a CPU, it's probably over there on the mural, though controls for it are probably in the facility. Not sure they'd recognize them if they did find them."

"Interesting idea, though--the image could be changed periodically. I don't think we have the technology to analyze it over any distance, and I'm sure the away team didn't take that sort of equipment with them."

"Did you guys catch Adriannah's idea?"
