On the Alien Ship
We contact the High Port for approach instructions and to arrange a berth.  We will dock, off load our passenger, purchase supplies and fuel.

While Ignatius talks to his Scout contact, Hans will contact the local brokers and arrange to sell our cargo of Radioactives, Advanced Machine Parts and Biochemicals.

Not sure if you parked the alien ship out in space somewhere or landed with it...

Darius seems to ponder IM's request for a moment before he replies. =/\= "Actually, I'm at the starport already. We don't normally do salvage... except for Scout ships, of course. There are always exceptions."

"Want to meet me at the Red Dwarf?" =/\=

With a chuckle. "Always one to manage a visit to the local on expenses. Ok, when? And... If you check your docking bay monitor I think you're interest will perk up."

Assuming we have the ship with us otherwise I'll tell him I'll bring visuals.

I thought we left it parked in deep space.  Makes it harder for the Imperium to just impound it.

Kraig will whistle quietly at the estimate of the value of the ship.  He will also listen with great interest at the description of the alien tech.  During the voyage he worked out and kept busy with study.

When they reached Regina he reached out to an old friend Alister Mercken.  He was active in trade and star ship insurance and would be able to fill Kraig in on the progress of the war and maybe provide a few tips on good cargo opportunities.

Hans tags along with Ignatius to the meeting with Darius.  He will provide an idea of what he has learned about the alien ship and to use his brokering skills to get the best price possible, if things get that far.

IM and Hans meet Darius at the Red Dwarf bar.

After IM shows him the pictures, he looks at the two of you questioningly, as if to say 'Is this real?'

"I've never seen a ship like that... hole notwithstanding. What is it? What do you want to do with it?" he asks.

On the Alien Ship
"It's a scientific find. Alien technology, even damaged, is something the Imperium always wants to get their hands on. We stumbled across this, lucky me again, but it's not something we can really use. We'll turn over the coordinates for a very nice finders fee."

With a shrug "If you're not interested we will have to put it on the market, protect it while we find a buyer. A lot of work but we have spent close to a month assessing it and towing it closer to Imperial space. That's time and credits."

IM opens his hands on the table "We'd really like this to be an IISS find, rather than the Navy. I assume you can make a few quiet inquiries through the proper channels. You were always good at that sort of thing."

On the Alien Ship
Dr. Bomar adds; "From what we can tell this ship and the dead aliens we found onboard are from an uncatalogued race.  It looks like the ship is centuries old and has been derelict for a couple of those centuries.  We were able to access the ships computers, except navigation, which seems to be encrypted.  The ship seems to mainly be about tech level 14 with several glaring anomalies.  First the hull is made of planarium, a stable trans-uranic element that has only been detected as a trace element in dwarf stars and planets.  There is more in that hull than is estimated to be in the entire Imperium.  Second the hole you see, from scans and computer records, is where the main power plant and FTL drive were.  They seem to have utilized dark energy and possibly dark matter.  Not sure what FTL technique the drive used, but it seems to have been related to gravity.  The drive seems to have malfunctioned, creating an implosion which took out the power plant and FTL drive and left the hole you see.  The third anomaly is that besides normal sensors, the ship is outfitted with both Jump space and Hyperspace sensors, which are fully intact.  The power plant, FTL drive, and both sensor suites seem to be significantly more advanced than the tech level 14 of the rest of the ship.  We have detailed external and internal scans from our approach and boarding."

"I think you would agree that this is quite a find."

On the Alien Ship
Kraig hears back from his old friend, Alister.

"I don't suppose you're calling to invite me to a party?" he says. "So, what can I do for you?"

"Oh, the war. Everyone was on alert for awhile, but nothing ever made it this far. That's not to say the Zhodani didn't make a sortie here, but they appear to have been sadly misinformed about our defense. The navy thrashed them soundly!"

"I don't think they'll try again any time soon."

"Cargo? Oh, yeah, Regina's still a hub. We've been getting a lot of war supplies in and out of here. Trylon, Vector and Instellarms are the big ones. Oddly, Sharurshid has been rather quiet. Can't help wondering if they've got some agreement with the Zhodani."

At the Red Dwarf, Darius is not sure what to make of the story IM and Hans have been telling him.

"We've had these tales for millennium," Darius replies. "According to the latest conspiracy theories, there are 37 of these races out there... ones we haven't quite encountered yet but they've encountered us. Spying and probing and all that shit."

You can almost hear the gears whirring in his head, and then it's like Credit signs appear in his eyes.

"So, you haven't told anyone else about this ship and these aliens? GP might be interested in the ship, Naasirka in the electronics and SuSAG in the aliens themselves."

"You've got a ship, so I'm guessing you aren't interested in settling down here on Regina. What if we form our own corporation. I can manage it from here while you do your gallivanting. That way, we can get the most bang for the credit."

"I can give you a few leads, but not really in a position to negotiate for you," Alister replies to Kraig.

"Not that I have anything against it, but I just don't know enough about your ship, your resources, your aims, your goals, your direction... hell, don't even know about your morals!"

He gives you a few leads for clearing houses and independent shippers.

"Oh, sure," Darius replies to IM, "I expect both the Scouts and the Navy to get involved, but there are ways to handle them. For starters, if we break the bounty up between two or more mega-corporations, there's less chance of the Navy getting a whiff of the deal until it's too late. Plus, if we sell to what would essentially be a consortium, they'll run all the interference for us."

"If push comes to shove, of course, the Navy will run roughshod all over the corps, but that's not likely to happen. Too much fallout in the middle of the war."

Re: On the Alien Ship
After Kraig and IM tell her what they've managed to find out, she sits back in her chair with a strange look.

"Well. That's not what I was expecting," she says.

"How well do you think you can trust this Darius?" she asks IM. "He sounds quite devious."

"And before you go looking for cargo, Kraig, we should probably decide where we're going next. As I recall, we'd agreed to put the war as far behind us as possible. As it turns out, the war hasn't quite made it this far, so we should be golden... as long as we don't head back the way we came."

"We should also decide where we don't want to go, just so we don't buy some cargo we'll never deliver."

Re: On the Alien Ship
IM shrugs "I've no reason to distrust him. He's a very good bureaucrat, always been by the numbers type, a straight shooter. While what he's doing is not following the letter, if he retires during before announcing the deal, it's not something he'd go to jail for. At most maybe a reprimand. I just think he's decided to head in to retirement with a major nest egg."

"On the other hand, he's not short-changing the Scouts. There's nothing that they'd really get from this. I mean, it's not like they are into making a profit."

"I don't suppose there's any regulations against moonlighting, is there?"

Selling the Alien Ship
After a few hours, Darius calls back.

"Okay, I think I've got it all worked out," he informs everyone. "I've set us up as Farspace Enterprises LLC. That seems innocuous enough."

"We each have a 1/10th interest in the business. I've got one share, and the crew of your ship has the other 9 shares. It's up to you how to determine who gets what."

"I then contacted the three corporations I mentioned and asked if they might be interested in the information we have. I asked them what value they'd place on it, and then negotiated a higher value."

"I explained about the location, and suggested that they form a consortium so that no one of them would have an exclusive."

"The aliens we have bring in 10MCr from SuSAG. There's no guarantee that they'll be as valuable as we think they might, so that's as high as SuSAG is willing to go."

"Naasirka is willing to cough up 100MCr for the electronics. Again, it's a gamble for them."

"And GP's tossing in another 100MCr for the ship itself."

"We might have been able to jack up the price with an auction, but that'd draw too much attention... would have caught the attention of the government... Even if we saw any money, it'd be ten or twenty years before we actually got it."

"Okay, consider it done!" Darius replies.

"I suppose, if you play your cards right, you could each retire. But, while 25 mega-credits may seem like a lot, it may not go as far as you think. It all depends on what you do with it."

Selling the Alien Ship
"I guess I don't have to worry about pocket change any more!" Arc comments. "I'll just have my valet carry it!"

"Seriously, we should give some thought to what we are going to do. Sure, I got into this adventuring business to make money in a way that wasn't tedious and boring, but, I thought it would take longer. I'm not sure I'm ready to stop."

"So. Do we want to retire? All go our separate ways? Sell the ship?"

"If we keep the ship and keep adventuring, are there any repairs or upgrades that the ship needs?"

"For that matter, do we want to get a different ship? Are we happy with this one?"
