"No Gahler this isn't a scout or crappy free trader. We have 14 staterooms, The Zho's, the two girls and these two spacebirds can double up."

Re: Dust Runner Galley

Slides his chair to the nearest computer ...examines the star maps. Checks the last onworld communication logs, starport/navy/scout emergency comms.
OOC:Next trick question(s)...

Did the ship record any onworld comms, local news networks...etc...something to give a better idea of what's going on in the "big picture"...and Imperial ships, with broadcasts... I realize this is all a bit slow on the 8 ball thinking, but, I've sat by and watched how our "nominal leaders" dealt with things...this isn't criticism, just something to think about...

Since the Swordies made mistakes, we're not the only clever ones...and opposition wasn't wiped out immediately, there would have been transmissions, code packets...something...

Before replying to Gahler..what does he find? (Note: not sure of modifiers?)
19:23, Today: Shamus O'Donnell rolled 8 using 2d6+1 with rolls of 3,4. comms/info dump..

Re: Dust Runner Galley

Gahler shrugged at Steve's words, "Conserving resources might be a priority considering what is happening. Next system we might only be able to skim for gas. No consumerable replacements."
"Less folk breathing and eating puts less load on the systems even if this is a free trader."

IM notes "Looking at the specs, this ship can easily handle 30 live and kicking crew and passengers. The only thing we don't know is the state of the stores. I'd say we table sticking folks in cold storage until we know the status. A full inventory is in order, right now we're just guessing."

Re: Dust Runner Galley

"We should be prudent for sure and check for stores and life support consumables.  Certainly going on somewhat reduced rations would be the first step if it's needed." He considers what he knows of the space around them.  "So where are we jumping and where should we come out; in or out system?"

"So we should probably delegate duties to do the inventory. See where this ship is currently with its stores and life support consumables."
"Volunteers?"
Gahler asked.

Re: Dust Runner Galley

"That won't be necessary," the Baroness spoke up. "Unless we shot up a lot of the supplies, the ship has enough food, water, air and consumables in the cargo hold for quite a lot. I thought it was strange at the time, but figured the captain was just speculating."

"Now I realize it was to supply the pirate crew. Remember, they had over twenty men, so they had supplies for some long term running."

Yes, my bad. I miscounted the names at the bottom here... possibly counted myself... so there are only 16 people on the ship... unless you count Schroedinger's Cat...

"So we have plenty of supplies. What do we know about the system we are jumping into?" Gahler queried.

Kraig looked up from his hand comp as he read about the system.  "The main world looks like it was fragged with asteroids during the Ancients War.  It's habitable but covered with huge craters from the strikes.  The system is old and the planet is metal poor and the atmosphere is tainted.  Locals live on what are called Mesas and get around in hand powered dirigibles.  The Navy and Scouts have the planet interdicted to protect the natives from interference.  There is a gas giant so we could refuel there if we could scoop.  Otherwise we might plead for help from the Navy or Scouts since we are fleeing the Swordies."

"If the Swordies are already there? Do we have a plan on how to scoop gas and run. Or will we go in silent, drifting in and out." Gahler asked.

"No scoops, we can only refuel on Albert or Victoria with water, no refinery so that means raw fuel, being new we at will likely not misjump."

"If we keep using unrefined fuel, eventually the j-drive will be more likely to mis-jump, not to mention the maintenance involved... we're probably good for a couple more, but, I'm thinking the sooner we use refined, the better."

Leans back in his chair sipping his coffee, "I'm for going in nice and slow, we silent run until we get a better idea of the situation...although, we don't have the fuel to get away, even if we wanted to..."

Looks at the sector map..."And, not to get too complicated, but, where are we going after here? If the goal is to get back to Imperial controlled space, we're going the wrong way, just based on our jump-2 capability."

"If I remember right most of the Jump two systems we can get to are all along the Frontier. We can circle around from Victoria, to Sothert, then to D'ganzio but then we have to jump back toward Sword Worlds space."Roland Drank coffee and seemd to be doing some mental processing as he spoke." We have to go through Arba, and lanic which are right on the frontier...any one want to make a bet on whether or not those worlds were hit the same time as Lanth."

"If we want to avoid the frontier space we need to find some way to carry extra fuel, or a back route not on the charts. otherwise we're gonna be dodging patrols for four or five jumps....just my take on things."

Re: Dust Runner Galley

Arc was listening to the others discuss where they were going with only one ear. He didn't know enough about the local space to have a clue himself. But it did strike him as odd. He'd had similiar discussions with fellow hunters about where they were going to hunt, but the first issue had always been 'what were they looking for?'

Here, they seemed to have skipped over that. They made it sound like they were a rabbit in blind panic mode; it never knew where it was going, it just want to get there in a hurry.

"This all sounds interesting," he suggested, "but shouldn't we decide what we're going to do before we decide where we're going to do it?"

"Most of us have a share of the ship now, thanks to the Baroness, but what are we going to do with it? Are we going to become traders? Explorers? Knockabouts?"

"Steve, how much of your other ship did you own? What do you think the chances are of getting it back any time soon? Will it be commandeered? Will it be looted?"

"I guess what I'm really wondering... are we in this bucket for the short term... or the long haul?"

"Well, I wasn't meaning to try to figure everything out right now...I suppose we should look at accomplishing one thing at a time...the 1st is survival and avoiding capture by the Swordies."

Pulls out the cigar and lights it, "No matter the circumstances that we find at Victoria, we need fuel and it boils down to that, if it's still controlled by Imperials..great...if it's controlled by badguys, then we just have to sneak-in, refuel and get out...we have plenty of time to figure out the where/why later..."

"Oh, I understand that part alright," Arc replies to Shamus. "What I was getting at, though, is figuring out where you are heading based on what you are trying to accomplish."

"For instance, if I was hunting bear, I wouldn't go to raccoon country. Know what I mean?"

"I'm just saying that, survival aside, cause that's a given, I think we should decide what we want so that we can plan how to go about getting it."

He then turns to Steve.

"Oh, so your ship was part of your retirement package from the Scouts," Arc states rather than asks. "It could be a long time before you get that replaced, though."

With that said, OOC: Unless stopped...Shamus will be leaving to get the newcomers some clothes, a shower and place to bed down...
