Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

Since there are quite a lot of posts in the old Bridge thread, I figured we might as well start out with a new one.

Harry took his station at Astrogation an hour before lift-off where he went over everything for the tenth time to make sure the numbers were right. He liked to be precise and just hoped the chief engineer took the same pride in his work. "We're ready Luise, everything checked for the umpteenth time."

Ex stayed right with the fuel processor while it was working taking only short brakes for rest and food. The process was a routine one but the rare malfunctions were problematic to say the least.

Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

After going over the CVs for the new people, Luise began slotting them into the various positions. In the end, she wasn't quite happy with the results. All the main roles were covered, but there wasn't a lot of depth. Fortunately, not a lot happened during jump or on the odd shifts.

Security was the one most needed on 2nd and 3rd shifts, and they had a lot of people who could do that.

They were very weak on Gunnery, but, then again, the ship didn't have any guns.

They were also weak in Engineering. Roland was pretty much it. If he got taken out, they'd really be FUBARred.

Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

Gahler found his way to the bridge and back into his favorite chair, tumble-proof sippy-style coffee cup in hand.  He punched up the display panel and flight info he preferred and made sure it was saved correctly under his profile.  It never hurt to double check these things.  Afterward he took a sip of the strong and sweet press pot coffee he'd brewed.

"Yep yep, all ready here," he said.

Harry needed to pick up a few bits of experience at being a pilot plus some engineering skill. They needed to cover all of the bases and Roland couldn't do it all. Siy could help a lot with Engineering, they needed to pick up some software to help her out!

Harry is Gunnery (turret) 3, I thought we installed guns? I was wrong? We can take care of that later.

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

Gahler checked the display and could see that they were still connected to port-side umbilicals, with no flight clearance and a few stragglers coming on board.  He was also out of coffee.

"Well, looks like we aren't leaving just yet.  So time for more java," he announced as he closed out his displays and made his away to the common area.

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

As Luise was going through the final checklist before departure, she realized that with the old crew leaving and the new crew signing on, some reallocation of space was needed.

That was primarily in the crew quarters assignment. While the aft 8 were set up to function as double bunks, Luise quickly realized that there wasn't any need to do that. If there came a time when transporting a passenger or two was necessary, Arc could always crash in the Medical Bay and Roland could crash in Engineering (he spent most of his time there anyway).

Beyond that, there was the routine of hot-bunking... two people share a stateroom but one is always on duty while the other sleeps.

Harry, as the XO, needed to be closest to the bridge, as did Gahler (the pilot).

Roland needed to be closest to engineering and Arc needed to be closest to medical. Not that there was any real significance between crew quarters.

Finally, the upper cargo bay could be converted to additional staterooms if needed. That seemed like a reasonable job for Harry--figure out the best way to make use of the upper cargo bay for staterooms. They'd need a plan for standard crew quarters, one for passenger staterooms and one for luxury quarters. Obviously, it'd be best if the entire cargo bay was configurable to any of those 4 layouts. The real issue would be the fresher units. She hated the thought of carrying 4-8 units stuffed into a corner when they might never be needed or used. Would it be cost effective to jettison them if the cargo space was needed?

Fortunately, Day'loiepr changed her mind at the last instant and decided not to join.

So, Luise wound up with the following room assignments:

5a Harry McStubbin
5b Gahler Grohlson
5c Siyeon Lee
5d Siyeon's luggage
5e Roland Steen
5f Oen-kek
5g Steve Cable
5h Arc Tangent
5i Adriannah Orilliah
5j Forge Harris

Re: Frumious Bandersnatch Bridge

Having heard the conversation over the comms, Siyeon headed for the bridge. There was an unknown person there, most likely the Gahler-person she heard over the comms.

"Hello, I'm Siyeon.", she introduced herself and held out a hand. "You must be Gahler? Is that how I should call you?"

And turning to Harry she said innocently: "And where are these beautiful women you spoke about?"

"Hi Siyeon.  Gahler is indeed the best thing to call me.  We don't stand on much formality, though I do call the Captain, Captain," Grohlson said, standing and extending his hand.  "I understand that you are are a talented vocalist and choreographer.  I'm hoping there will be a chance to enjoy a performance of yours while we are en route to the hinterlands."
