Re: OOC Discussions

Some very neat character development, it's exciting to have new faces in the game.  My suggestion would be to go with what you want to play and let the skill balance work itself out.

Re: OOC Discussions

If you are wondering, I'm just waiting for the other new players to finish up their characters. There are already 4 in place. They are all waiting for something to happen!

I'm probably going to move the game on Wednesday, and anyone who isn't ready will have to catch up.

Re: OOC Discussions

Drex,

I like the interview in the hospital idea.  That also supports the failure to join the syndicate in the next term.  "He seemed mighty chatty with that Imperial agent fellow.  Don't think we can trust him."  Could be a way for you to gain additional Investigation or Interrogation skill, perhaps?  As for me, perhaps a chance to improve my Persuade or Deception skill.

The only drawback I can see is Nate won't recognize you if you've got a different pair of shades now!  :)

Let me know what you think.

It'll depend on how many terms you go through, as the others need to keep the timelines consistent.

Concerning equipment, do we use the core or can we use the Central supply catalogue?

Re: OOC Discussions

I do want to apologize again for being slow, I've worked up the character, however, I've hit a stumbling mental block...

I have a tendency to over think things, and as far as my character is concerned, why am I on the island and/or ship, and how does it relate to the overall situation.

The idea that all of a sudden I just appear out of the woods strikes me as odd, as seen with Jyro.

And yes, I have played RPGs for a really long time, and huge leeway is given to introducing new players "Ok, you wake up and there's Frodo, the new halfling thief eating your breakfast sausages."

My point is, I'd like some input from those players that have carried on from a previous game, could someone explain in greater detail the how/why, this ship/hijackers/crew are where they are...

A bit of background history would make this easier.

"What's my motivation here? What's my reason for being here? How do I relate to the situation, and where does it fit in with my ethos?"

Method role-playing. ;)

And don't ask me, I'm one of the FNGs.

Re: OOC Discussions

Method role-playing, true...I've been accused of that. trying to avoid the placing of a plastic bag over my head to experience a zero-oxygen environment. Kidding....

I'm just trying to figure it out, it helps me get into it better once I know the how/why...

Of course I could just make it up without understand it, I was hunting on the island with all my gear when a ship arrived...easy...

Anyways, just some thoughts?

And it sucks being the FNGs, otherwise known as the bullet catchers.

Re: OOC Discussions

Yeah, sorry Jyro showed up and then basically ran away again; he got a little anxious.

Anyway, Jyro is on a hunt for revenge; he's been tracking the guys that are hijacking the space ship and followed them to the island.  He happened to notice you all standing around plotting something and that is mostly that.  Just ooc what he's up to; hinted at in his 5 second appearance IC.  But i'm sure you can make it whatever you want it to be with the GM - he has that list of reasons posted on how you can come into the game but making one up is more fun i think.  Hope that helps!

By the way, I wasn't "criticizing" your entrance, if there is validation in it, outstanding. It's when say, 2-4 new characters all of a sudden show-up on a fairly remote island intent to interact with a damaged/crashing ship, it stretches the realm of reality...and if there was one core understanding when traveller came out...the game was based on reality, yes, a futuristic reality, but, reality never the less.

Ahhh...I am getting carried away. Sorry.

Stepping back a bit, the GM and I are working it out for my character. No worries.

With that said, being a "Method RPGer", there is no other game system that supports, embraces, and enhances that type of serious roleplay, more so than traveller.

Re: OOC Discussions

My character's put together and I've suggested a starting point to our GM, but I understand the comments offered here by Shamus and others.  It does feel a little cramped, all of a sudden.  But I too have forged past such 'met in a tavern' beginnings in the past and enjoyed the game.  I am certain we all will be able to do that here as well.

Looking forward to getting into the action!

It goes well with flour bombing an apc driver and using axe to jam a turret.

Re: OOC Discussions

Yes, purchase equipment with Mustering Out cash.

No limit, other than TL of 13. Within reason. One or two RPGs would be fine, but 200 would be pushing it. That sort of thing.
