Re: Moving Forward

I'm interested in Explorer and Troubleshooter.
Maybe treasure hunter.  Skip tracer not so much.

Re: Moving Forward

Same here. Skip tracing is fine... once, maybe even twice (or now and then), but it doesn't hold much on-going interest for me.

Trouble-shooting seems like it has the most options.

It doesn't sound like any of us are the explorer types.

Re: Moving Forward

I would say that troubleshooters and explorers would be my preference.

Actually the War makes a good if dangerous backdrop.  If we do somewhat reboot we could jump back in just after the war is over.

Re: Moving Forward

Ha-ha! The game started with them in the middle of the war and the ship and crew ran as far away (and as fast they could) from it!

I was thinking that it'd be just after the war, too. In any case, the ship is at Regina now, so as long as the ship heads away from the war, it really won't have much impact on them.

Re: Moving Forward

So, the consensus seems to be to reboot.

Do you want to change ships?

Does anyone object to changing to a 300-ton Darrian Far Trader?

Re: Moving Forward

Sounds like a plan to me. A higher jump gives us more options, and the larger cargo hold also gives us more trade options.

Re: Moving Forward

I'm ready to reboot as well.  The Darrian ship should do nicely as long as we don't head into Sword World space.

After reading the 'Aftermath' thread do you mean we can do things in the two years between the last post and the end of the war?

Re: Moving Forward

Yes, that's what I meant. If you want to have an adventure or two on the planet while the war grinds on, that's fine.

Or you can all go into hibernation... or therapy... or whatever.

Re: Moving Forward

After being a tourist for a year IM gets bored. Since they are planning on changing careers he decides tot brush up on his Scout Spec Ops skills.

StarMaster, are we able to do some skill advancement during our three years downtime?

Shopping to follow although I'm not sure of his wealth after purchasing a ship, share and credits in hand.

Re: Moving Forward

Another question / comment.

We started with Mongoose Traveller 1st edition (I think).

Are we going to switch to 2ed or keep 1st ed?

I'm fine with 1st ed, as I have more of the books.

Re: Moving Forward

No, I don't have deckplans yet of the Darrian Far Trader. I have the PDF, but it won't let me copy it to Paint to tinker with it. I'll either have to print and rescan, draw it myself, of try to find a picture of it online. Stats are in the book.

Yes, you can do some skill advancement during the 3 years of downtime.

You will have about 20 weeks of significant study time per year. So, 2 weeks to get a new skill at 0-rank, 2 weeks to raise a skill from rank-0 to rank-1, 2 weeks to raise a skill from rank-1 to rank-2, 3 weeks to raise a skill from rank-1 to rank-3, etc.

Maximum # of skills is still equal to Int + Edu. 0-rank skills don't count. Maximum number of ranks for all skills should be twice that.

Advancing Attributes works the same way: 8 weeks to raise Str-7 to Str-8, etc.

I'm not going to convert the game to MgT2, but MgT2 is the more valid source for equipment purchases; if you don't have it, though, that's okay.

In any case, I'm not aware of MgT2 having as many books out yet, so all the extras would still have to be MgT1.
