He nodded towards the attack.
"For myself, it is certainly principle. Why would I seek victory over the aethetics of a beautiful game?"

The Young General points out, starting the end of the game; "As far as the principle of the thing- it does matter to a general. Using barbarians against barbarians just... trains them. Makes you more dependent on the next group, if any. That's how the Jin won."

Jin asked calmly, "We sit here in a camp layout older than their great-grandfathers, playing a game older than any field they have harvested with their own hands, subject to a bureaucracy only slightly younger than Heaven. The throne matters, of course, but it is Shen Zhou's throne. Even the barbarians have never been able to change that."

Jin's wife mercifully has left them alone but Jin can see his student edging closer, clearing his throat and psyching himself up to interject. "I worry about these. I worry about all of this. This time it feels different. But I'm young and my father is in prison."

"Three," Cha corrects Jin. "If we stay and fight, we're traitors. If we stay and don't fight, we die anyway. If we run, we're deserters." He grimaces, "I wonder why now?"
"I think... that might be Feathered Princess's fault. I haven't seen her."

He catches a snippet of 'disgrace to the Empire' before one of the guards charges her with a sword. She slices his throat with his open weapon with just a flick of the hand.
The other, a black-garbed man who doesn't look to be dressed in anything approaching imperial armor, just gives her a wry smile. "Ah. And here's your husband."

"Yes, yes. Politics. I know," Jin says with contempt as he draws his jian and tangles up the wire with a sequence of rotating gestures that wrap it around the blade.
He gave an almost approving nod as the wires worked free.
"The old ways are worth respect, but your gambit's solution was found some nine centuries ago."
Jin's strikes are compact and complicated, unnatural movement refined over the long generations of swordsmen to form the most efficient responses possible. The high strike towards the man in black's face transitioning smoothly to a cut at his legs.

"And your style is old and well documented," The Man in Black retorts; though the cut to his face meets only air, the cut to his leg slices through black robes and hits the solid flesh underneath without drawing blood.
The scent of the Corrupt fills the air.
Jin's darling wife looks around as she hears the shouts and screams of soldiers. She lets out an exhalation of frustration and flits away to engage someone else.

"Certainly the weight of my martial ancestors' discoveries is great," Jin said as he slipped along the side of the Man in Black with a sudden burst of speed.
His jian left a blue arc of reflected light along the corkscrew upwards path it took, borrowing from his momentum before almost unnaturally returning to the scabbard as the Alliance member found himself truly outside the camp proper.
"Still, my studies may have yield some small novelties of note."

Jin is now outside the camp proper. He has first init. There are a crowd of Rank 4 soldiers after you.
Once again Jin's sword meets flesh hard as steel and he rushes back, getting outside of the camp. He finds himself surrounded by black-armored Imperial soldiers- no doubt the personal armies of some of the eunuchs.
"Novelties are novelties," He sneers as he flings his razor-wire at Jin with irritatingly perfect dexterity. The wire zips around him, trying to wrap around his body and hamper his movements.
