Annabelle and Arani are led into the large tent and enter a room on the left side. Inside is
a long bench where everyone is directed to sit down next to a large black sharpie attached to the bench with a piece of string. In each corner is a female airman (looking through the MCU-2/P gas masks one can tell that they are women and not men) in full MOPP gear armed with a rifle.

A female airman wearing a a plastic medical suit, and a surgical mask stands in the middle of the room next to trash can with a red trach can liner and gives instructions while several others similarly dressed place two items at everyone’s feet. The first item is medium sized mesh laundry bag. The second item is a metal/plastic tray with small holes in the bottom of it.

“Ladies we are having you do the following for your safety, if you feel like your privacy is being violated we are sorry for the inconvenience, but everybody has to go through this process so that there are no infected persons or trace of the infection in the safe zone.”

“First find write down your name and some sort of identifying number, drivers license, or social security number on the laundry bag. The number needs to be on a piece of identification that you have on your person. If you do not have an identification number please let somebody know.”

"Second you will need to remove any identification, jewelry or plastic items such as credit or debit cards and place them in the tray provided. You will take the tray with you all the way through decon and decontaminate those items yourself.”

“Third you will need to completely undress and place all clothing or personal items with fabrics in the laundry bag provided. You will leave the laundry bag here and once the items within have been cleaned they will be returned to you. If you are on your period you will have to remove your tampon or maxi pad and place them in the trashcan. Tampons and maxi pads will be provided to you in the dressing area.”

“Once everyone is undressed we will move on to the next room which contains showers. I apologized in advance, but the water is cold and will smell odd. The smell is disinfectant. The showers are at high pressure and will run for 5 minutes. During that time ensure that every part of your body is hit by the high pressure water, and you also spray down your personal item tray.” 

“The third and last room is a dressing area. You will be provided with panties, a pair of socks, and a pair of coveralls. If you need tampons or maxi pads they will be provided to you at this point.”

“After leaving decontamination you can wait on the other side for any male family members or friends. You will then be led to a hanger which has been converted into a temporary living space.”

“Does anybody have any questions?”

Anabelle took off her clothes and followed the instructions as they moved through the process. Placing the rest of her stuff that she did not have to give up into the bag she puts her name and id number of it before moving off to the showers.

She waited on the other side for anyone from the group she had recently found, having trouble remembering faces due to the situation.

- "Just one. I know you're pretty busy and all, but how long's it going to take to get my clothes back?"

As she asked her question, she already began undressing, keeping her personal belongings in her clothes so she could remove them right before placing them in the laundry bag, as opposed to stacking them in full view. She'd been through this kind of thing before, criminals sometimes hid in a territory hit by an epidemic because they had the resources to isolate themselves to begin with, and they assumed no one would be coming after them. Usually, they were wrong. But this was just part of the process. Naked, she picked up the small tray that held her ID and some debit cards, and jotted her number down on the bag before casually dropping it off near the wall to enter the showers.
