Nellis AFB Decontamination: Gentlemen

Once their group is led into a tent TAB, James and Jonathan find themselves in a room with a long bench. Everyone is directed to site down next to a large black sharpie attached to the bench with a piece of string. In each corner is an airman in full MOPP gear armed with a rifle. Looking through the MCU-2/P gas masks one can tell they are men.

An airman wearing a plastic Tyvek medial suit, and a surgical mask stands in the middle of the room next to trash can with a red trash can liner and gives instructions while several others place two items at everyone’s feet. The first item is medium sized mesh laundry bag. The second item is a metal/plastic tray with small holes in the bottom of it.

“Hey guys you’re going to have to go through decontamination for your safety. We want to make sure that there are no infected persons or trace of the infection in the safe zone.”

“First thing we need you to do is write down your name and some sort of identifying number, drivers license, or social security number on the laundry bag. The number needs to be on a piece of identification that you have on your person. If you don’t have an ID number please let one of us know.”

“Next you will need to remove any identification, metal or plastic items such as jewelry and credit or debit cards and place them in the tray provided. You’re going to decontaminate that stuff yourself and keep the tray with you.”

“Third you will need to completely undress. Place all clothing or personal items with fabrics in the laundry bag provided. Leave the laundry bag here and when the items have been cleaned they will be returned to you.”

“Once everyone is undressed we will move on to the showers. The water will be cold and smell odd due to disinfectant. The showers will run for five minutes and are at a high pressure. Make sure you clean your entire body and your personal item tray.”

“The last room is a dressing area. You will be provided with underware, a pair of socks, and a pair of coveralls.”

“After leaving decontamination you can wait for any female family members or friends. Then you will be led to a hanger which has been converted into a temporary living space.”

“Any questions guys?”

J.P did as he was instructed and he just attached a label to his backpack and tied the string bag to it with his other clothes. Either way they said they would get there possessions back so he was not to fussed. He waited in line with the others for the showers not saying anything as they moved forward.

Once out of the process J.P needed a cigarette, he looked around for anyone else from the initial group.

Same as everyone else TAB follows through with the instructions as they were pretty simple, using his drivers license as his ID on his bag.  But he does have one question "Hey bud, would you mind using Tide it keeps the colors brighter."  TAB was not expecting anyone to laugh nor did he really want anyone to he was still freaking out a little he thought and it was his way of dealing with it.
Another question came to his mind "Uhmmm Sir, how am I supposed to clean my cell?"

"Sorry forgot about that, I've been doing this most of the day. Place your cell phone or any other hand held portable electric device in your personal items tray. In the shower area this is an area for cleaning portable electronic devices. Wipe your hands down first with the disinfectant wipes then the electronic device. You will then place the item in a zipock bag. Seal the bag and place it in your personal items tray."
