Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

In reply to Arani Vasingis (msg # 167):

Laney pointed to the massive water tower.

"Don't worry, Arani. Three things:

"1. According to Handsome and Ace, the cultists are all dead.

"2. If they weren't, there is a water tower in between us and them, if they were alive.

"3. Again, they're all dead, but if not we don't have any possible line of sight due to the curvature of the hill and the position of the other buildings. But they, again, can't shoot at us as they're all dead. In the "dead-dead" way, not walkin' around.

"So I really think we should be taking this lady's suggestion and going in on the North side."

OOC: As far as Laney understands there are no other cultists alive. But if you take a look on Google Street view you'll see there is no possible LOS between the range at the foot of the hill and the buildings of the Firearms Facility at the top as the latter are below the crest of the hill:

https://goo.gl/maps/XZZecoXhJRv

The range where the cultsts got killed is behind the berms panning to the lower left, by what appears to be a coach (bus). The John T. Moran Firearms Facility is to the upper right, behind the crest of the hill. In between, and higher, is the white water tower, which is sitting on its own hill. I think this clarifies's my PC's point.

Annabelle had thought to swap out her rifle for her pistol again, but decided not to and concentrated on what was a head of them. Her head was on a swivel and she searched for threats and yelled them down through the gun ring to those driving and navigating.

Arani took a deep breath, followed by an audible groan.

- "Okay, not a problem then, North side it is."

She mumbled something below her breath. It was possible that Laney could hear a word or two, but the exact wording was lost to the wind.

Laney didn't try to decipher what Arani was saying, she surmised (perhaps incorrectly) the other woman was upset. Or maybe she was praying for deliverance, who knew? Still, she had been a little rough on her, so she said, "Maybe I shouldn't a' put it like that, Arani. You were just bein' cautious."

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

The horde of Zombies surrounding the building is large enough that trying to slowly push through them is plausible but would give the Zombies ample opportunity to climb up the sides and back of the truck.

Again it looks like plowing through them might be the better option.

OOC: Arani if plowing through the zombies I'll need two pilot truck rolls at -15%. If you drive slowly through them it'll mean the people in the back will have to fight off zombies climbing into the cargo bed of the truck.

Arani shook her head in response.

- "Nah, 's not that. I'm just completely crap at reading maps. Once i got my visual reference points i'm usually good, but until then i could get lost in a broom closet."

Once she spotted the zombies, she stopped a decent distance away, turning her head to call out at those in the truck bed.

- "Right, heads up, folks! I could try slamming into these suckers, but it's about even odds of something going wrong. Or, i could go slow and push them out of the way, but you'd be stuck fighting them off as they try to climb in like last time. Your call."

She knew she would be fairly safe even if the truck did launch itself up from the curb, but those in the truck bed did not have the luxury of seatbelts or something intended for passengers to hold onto. It was only fair that they would be the ones to decide the best course of action.

In reply to Arani Vasingis (msg # 173):

Well holy crap balls Arani's options to pick from were not to hot that was for sure.  TAB knew that he would rather go down swinging then get launched and then go down swinging.

"I say go slow, we will have a height advantage and easier time striking these dead heads in the head.  Worst comes to worst you punch some direction, if we take the slow options make sure you are calling out for what you are against."

A little smile was on TAB's face the kind you get when you think something is funny.

Arani smirked, and shrugged apologetically at Laney.

- "Sorry Laney, you got outvoted two to one."

She turned to look around again, giving a tap on the back to get the attention of those in the cab.

- "Lock and load back there folks, slow it is!"

She began a slow and steady advance, trying to get two wheels on the curb before they'd reach the zombies in order to try and not mess up the aim -- or worse, balance -- of those in the cab while they'd be fighting off zombies. She did keep herself prepared to floor it in case of trouble, the zombies might be able to keep from being ran over due to a lack of momentum, but a truck could still give a pretty good shove if need be.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

Arani begins to push the military cargo truck into/through the crowd of Zombies. The truck is soon surrounded by all sides. A few Zombies are run over, but many are attempt to climb up the front, sides and back of the truck.

Front of truck
A single Zombie begins to climbs up onto the hood of the truck......

Driver side of truck
On the driver side of the truck a pair of Zombie manage to start climbing up....

Passenger side of truck
On the passenger side of the truck a pair of Zombie manage to start climbing up....

Rear of truck
No Zombie are climbing up the back of the truck, yet.....

OOC: Please post a full melees worth of actions in one post. After that wait for my GM post before posting again.

It will take a full melee for a Zombie to climb up and into the cargo bed of the truck.

I am assuming that both of the driver and passenger side windows of the truck cab are rolled up. Just keep in mind that if you do open up and try to lean out of those windows you run the risk of getting pulled out of the truck.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

In reply to Arani Vasingis (msg # 177):

If Laney was disappointed she didn't show it. She simply replied, philosophically, "You know, there's a very good reason they say "this ain't no democracy" at times like these, I just hope we don't find out why the hard way."

Arani was driving and Annabelle was standing in the passenger side roof hatch. She didn't like it that one of the crazies was crawling up on the hood but there wasn't much she could do about it if she didn't want to shoot through the front windscreen. She did put in her ear plugs to preserve her hearing in case there was gunfire in the truck cab.

"She's all yours, Annabelle," she said, pointing at the woman climbing on the hood of the 5-ton. Grabbing the radio again she upped the volume a little and transmitted,

"Handsome, Ace, anyone? Do you read me? Over.

"Handsome, Ace, any station? This is Laney at the range. Please come in.

"If you can hear me, we are going in now but we're doing it the hard way, nice and slow. We won't crash but we're gonna be fightin' all the way. So we may be running a little low on bullets, if you dig."

OOC: I am holding off for my PC's attacks until I think I have it straight: there is one zombie attacking the cab from the front. The 1 zombie on the driver side and 2 on the passenger side are climbing into the bed or the cab?

Added: Confirmed, just 1 near the cab. Thanks, GM! Instead of posting a back-and-forth conversation over a minute's time I will post in the radio thread and edit this post as we go along.

Arani shrugged in response to Laney, keeping the Beretta on her lap (with the safety on, obviously) though prepped to slam it in reverse and floor it if the call to pull back would come from those in the back.

- "Well, let's just say i wanted to be sure they wouldn't be able to pin it on me if something goes wrong. Regardless of what they'd have ended up deciding."

OOC: Conditional: Delayed Action to shift into reverse and back up again if called for, otherwise keep advancing at the current rate.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

As the truck continues to move forward, people in the back of te truck dow what they can to keep the Zombies from climbing up into the bad of the truck.

Eddie blows off the head of the Zombie climbing up the front of the truck. He then fires on the two Zombies climbing up the driver side and blows their heads off too.

Annabelle focuses on the Zombies climbing up the passenger side, and blows their heads off too.
[Private to Annabelle Wright: You only fired two bullets, so don't mark off the ammo from actions 3 & 4.]

Arani doesn't see a need to put the truck into reverse just yet, but realizes at the speed she is going (the speedometer barley reads anything) it'll take a minute or two to reach the side of the building.

A total of four more Zombies mange to climb up the sides and front of the truck.

Front of truck
No Zombies climb up onto the hood of the truck......

Cab, Driver side
No Zombies manage to climb up to reach the driver side window

Cab, Passenger side
No Zombies manage to climb up to reach the passenger side window

Driver side of cargo bed
On the driver side of the truck a single Zombie manages to start climbing up....

Passenger side of cargo bed
On the passenger side of the truck three Zombies manage to start climbing up....

Rear of truck
Still no Zombie are climbing up the back of the truck, yet.....

The woman on the hood floopped backwards as Eddie's bullet took her in the throat, and she slid off the front out of sight. Pulling her eyes away from this and back to Arani Laney laughed, trying to hide her nervousness. "I can honestly say that wouldn'ta crossed my mind, no ma'am."

She quickly closed her eyes and said quietly, "sweet saviour Jesus, save us and preserve us that we may help others in need. Amen!" Mini prayer complete she called to the others in the back, "How ya'all doin', back there? Want us to pick up the pace? Just say the word!"

With all the threats that were an immediate problem Anabelle checks around the cab of the truck to see if she had missed any. If no other zombies are present she will wait and keep and eye out as they moved forward.

Ducking down she says "Looks to be clear for the minute." She then stands back up with her rifle at her shoulder.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada: Rescue Crew

Eddie takes two well aimed shots and drops two of the Zombies climbing up along the driver side of the truck bed. He intends to fire a third shot but holds his fire as the other people in the back begin to use the butt stocks of their weapons to deal with the Zombies.

Arani finally pulls the truck along side the building so the people on the roof to be rescued can jump down into the bed of the truck. As the truck stops the horde of Zombies surrounding the truck pushes up against the front, back, and driver side.

The pushing of the Zombie horde makes it harder for those trying to climb up the side of the truck to do so, thus there are easily dealt with by gal with the sniper rifle and her people.

Before the people on the roof start to jump down they drop four duffle bags of various shapes/sizes. The clunking sound the bags make is a pretty good sign the bags are filled with weapons.

Five people then drop down off the roof into the back of the truck. They too are similarly armed as the people previously rescued. With a total of twelve people in the back f the truck it's cramped, but the side and back are well covered by people to prevent any Zombies climbing up.

Once the people in the back of the truck are settled in Arani wastes no time in appling the gas and pushing/running over any Zombies blocking the front of the truck.

OOC: If you want to use a bullet to shoot some Zombie feel free to post doing so, just don't forget to mark off the ammo used.

- "On it!"

Despite the clear necessity, Arani did take care to accellerate slowly and be careful when driving off the sidewalk, as she could tell even without looking around that the bed of the truck would be pretty cramped judging by the amount of impacts she had heard behind her. It would be a shame for anyone to fall off at this point, so she just needed to push down the urge to floor it one more time before they'd be able to clear this horde and get underway back to base via the agreed upon route past the water tower. Hopefully the ones shambling after them would be too busy getting stuck on the fence to follow them around the obstacle.

For those who bother to look (which should be everyone!) the Zombie horde begins to disperse in all directions, including towards the other range.
